The newspaper also included the will of Huang's parents. The will, bearing an official seal, clearly stated that after their deaths, all their belongings would belong to their son, Huang Zhenhua, and daughter-in-law, Gu Qingxiao. It was Gu Qingxiao who had Huang Zhenhua persuade Huang's parents to draft this will. Unexpectedly, it came in handy today.
Huang Zhenguo's son never expected the truth to be like this. He was the son of Huang Zhenguo's new wife whom he married overseas. He felt that things were going to get bad. So much evidence proved that his father and third uncle had broken off relations first, and had even reported his grandparents, eldest uncle, eldest aunt, and his aunt's family.
Huang Zhenguo's son somewhat regretted going to the newspaper to place the ad. He was just angry that his uncle was refusing to see them, and he wanted to put some pressure on his uncle through the news so that he could see his father and third uncle. Then his father and third uncle could get back what was rightfully theirs.
The matter became common knowledge, and the investment was still under discussion. Huang Zhenguo and Huang Zhenmin were too ashamed to stay in the country; if they were recognized whenever they went out, people would point and whisper about them.
The leaders in charge of overseas Chinese investment held such people in utter contempt. During the Cultural Revolution, it was understandable that many Chinese fled overseas; after all, staying might mean being sent to the countryside or paraded through the streets. But reporting one's own parents was simply unacceptable.
The investment has been temporarily suspended. Huang Zhenguo, Huang Zhenmin, and Huang Zhenguo's son plan to buy plane tickets and return overseas to connect the brothers with potential investors and urge them to leave as soon as possible.
Those people's elders had done a lot of work for Huang Zhenguo and Huang Zhenmin in reporting the Huang and Gu families. They devised schemes to bring misfortune upon the Huang and Gu families and even sent Huang Zhenguo and Huang Zhenmin overseas.
Everything was arranged perfectly; they were just waiting to see how the Huang and Gu families fared. Who would have thought that in the end, both families escaped unscathed, suffering only financial losses. They watched helplessly as the Huang family and the Gu family prospered.
Before leaving, Huang Zhenguo and Huang Zhenmin still wanted to see Huang Zhenhua one last time. But no matter what they did, they couldn't see him. Although they were very unwilling, Huang Zhenguo and Huang Zhenmin eventually gave up.
Huang Zhenguo and his two companions flew back overseas. However, a week after their return, all three began experiencing symptoms of illness. Huang Zhenguo, Huang Zhenmin, and Huang Zhenguo's son first inexplicably vomited blood, then fell into a coma. After being resuscitated, they were all weak and unable to sit up.
Overseas doctors gave them full-body examinations but found no signs of poisoning. However, the three of them were unable to sit up, and instrumental examinations revealed nothing wrong. Huang Zhenguo and the others suspected Huang Zhenhua was behind it, but they had never had any contact with him. Ultimately, the cause remained elusive, and the three of them spent the rest of their lives bedridden.
Su Xingran looked up at the moon outside the window. The medicine must have started to take effect by now. Su Xingran thought that such an ending was already merciful to them.
Gu Moli walked behind Su Xingran, put his arm around her waist, and looked at the moon with her. He knew that Ranran had gone out that night, and he guessed what she was doing. It didn't matter; whatever Su Xingran was doing, as long as she was safe and sound, that was all that mattered.
