Chapter 33 New Year's Eve Dinner (1/2)

Soon it arrived, the day Su Xingran started school. In the morning, she walked to school with the village chief's family and the brigade leader's daughter. Su Wenli, her older brother, took her there on his bicycle. As they passed by Su Xingran on the way, she casually called out to her, and her brother gave her a cold snort.

Su Xingran didn't bother to pay attention. Don't think she didn't know Su Wenli. She was deliberately showing off that she had a bicycle to take to school. Her older brother snorted. It was all because of his family. He hadn't given her a hundred yuan that time. He had promised to give her that. The hundred yuan dowry hadn't been settled yet.

Carrying her schoolbag and walking to school with her friends, Su Xingran felt that she was still a child. This feeling was wonderful; everything was beautiful and reassuring, not an illusion.

Time flies. Since the start of the semester, Su Xingran goes to school during the day, cooks dinner at home in the evening, reviews her studies after dinner, and goes to her master's house to learn medical skills on weekends.

In the blink of an eye, a semester has passed, and it's already winter with the Lunar New Year approaching. Su Xingran has changed a lot in these past few months.

Every morning, she gets up and goes for a run. At first, she ran half a lap, then one lap, then two laps, and later she could run three laps. She runs along the path next to the field at the foot of the mountain. One lap is about a kilometer.

Her body gradually regained its strength and was no longer weak. Besides running, she also took some health-enhancing pills. While they didn't make her instantly strong, they did have a positive effect on her physical development.

She would occasionally add some pills to the soup for her parents and master to eat, hoping that their health would get better and better. These three were the most important people to her.

In winter, the work in the fields would stop. Dad would go to work in town, and Mom would stay home making new clothes—hers, her master's clothes, Dad's clothes, and her own.

Over the past few months, Su Xingran would occasionally go up the mountain to collect herbs. Her master and parents told her not to go deep into the mountains, and she always agreed verbally. But once she got to the mountain, she would use her spatial ability to run deep into the mountains to find medicinal herbs.

People back then didn't know much about medicinal herbs, and since the deep mountains were teeming with wild animals and most people wouldn't venture there, she always managed to find something on her trips. She dug up old ginseng twice, as well as a piece of ancient lingzhi mushroom. She also found some he shou wu, tian qi, and gastrodia elata, among other medicinal herbs.

Every time she returned to her master, she would get a scolding. She knew her master was worried that she might be in danger, so she could only apologize with a smile and say that she wouldn't dare to do it again, but she would dare to do it again next time.

Her master couldn't do anything about it, only asking her to ensure her safety and that saving her life was the most important thing if danger struck. She quickly assured her master that her safety was her top priority.

After handing the medicinal herbs over to her master, he would give her a sum of money every now and then, telling her that someone needed the herbs and he would sell them to that person, giving her the money in return. She would try to give half to her master, who would laugh at her for being foolish for not wanting the money and instead sharing it with him, but she knew that her master was happy.

The master refused her money and told her that he was rich and could support several women for a lifetime. He told her to keep the money for her parents' living expenses in the future.

So now, Su Xingran's family doesn't need to calculate even the cost of making a new dress, unlike in the past.

On New Year's Day, Su Xingran went to her master's house, picked him up, and they ate New Year's Eve dinner together. This year's New Year's Eve dinner was quite sumptuous.
