Eldest daughter-in-law, do you remember when we put the talisman into that evil spirit's place?
Yes, I know. What's wrong? Is there a problem? Didn't we put it away and leave? Nobody saw us.
Oh dear, eldest son's wife, how can you be so dense? You don't understand a word I'm saying. The day before, we went to the second son's house to place talismans, and the next day our whole family started having stomach aches and diarrhea.
Don't you think there's a problem? You've been making breakfast for so many years since you married into the family, and there's never been a case of stomach aches or constant diarrhea after eating it. But it just started happening after we visited your second son's family and came back.
Zhao Xiaohua thought about it and it seemed to be true. She and her mother-in-law had gone to the second son's house, and after they returned, everyone in the family started feeling unwell—stomach aches and diarrhea. Could it really be like that? Could it be that the evil spirit knew about their plan?
Old Mrs. Su and Zhao Xiaohua exchanged a glance, both seeing disbelief and fear in each other's eyes. Today was the last day; they had to try and see if the talisman had worked to drive away the evil spirit.
The next day, when Su Xingran went out, she saw Old Lady Su and Zhao Xiaohua from afar. The two were acting suspiciously, constantly glancing in her direction. Su Xingran knew in her heart that the deadline had arrived. She pretended not to see them and continued on her way.
As Su Xingran walked up to them and passed by, Old Lady Su stopped her. "Your parents know we're not feeling well, yet they don't even come to see us. Humph, what an ingrate!"
You're such an ingrate! Your grandparents aren't feeling well, and you don't even bother to ask how they are. Old Mrs. Su continued her tirade, cursing her parents and then moving on to Su Xingran.
Su Xingran sensed that Old Lady Su seemed to be trying to provoke her, and she remembered her promise to play along. She lowered her head, and when she raised it again, her eyes were icy cold. This look, combined with her youthful face and age, made her appear very strange. It was completely incongruous; what child would have such a look?
Old Mrs. Su and Zhao Xiaohua were both startled. They didn't leave, and neither did the evil spirit. Trembling, they retreated, but Su Xingran pressed on relentlessly until they could no longer bear it and ran. Su Xingran glanced at Old Mrs. Su and Zhao Xiaohua, who had run far away. They were truly guilty; everything they saw seemed like a ghost.
Old Mrs. Su and Zhao Xiaohua ran back into the house, panting heavily. "What are we going to do about the eldest daughter-in-law? The talisman didn't work on that evil spirit; it couldn't drive her away. Our diarrhea must be caused by her magic."
Mother, why don't we go find Aunt He again and see if she has any ideas on how to deal with that evil spirit? But Mother, you must prepare a red envelope before you go. Without a red envelope, she won't help you with anything.
Old Mrs. Su and Zhao Xiaohua were wrapped up so tightly that only their eyes were showing that they looked like they were going to steal something. When they arrived at Aunt He's door, Zhao Xiaohua went up and knocked on the door.
Soon, a hoarse, aged voice rang out from inside the door: "Who is it?" "Aunt He, it's us. We came a few days ago. Please open the door and let us in. We need to talk to you."
