Chapter 71 Old Man Su Exchanges Tickets, Heads to Su Xingran's House (2/2)

Upon hearing this, Old Man Su immediately pressed for details about who had the receipts. The man pointed at Old Man Su and said, "Your granddaughter, Guomin's, her master should have some. He treats many wealthy and influential people in town, so it's normal for people to give him receipts as gifts." He added, "Just go find your granddaughter and ask her for a favor."

Actually, that person was right. Su Xingran's master had all the receipts for the bicycle, watch, and radio. He gave the receipts to Su Xingran, and Duan Yuming also had receipts. They were all trying to give them to Su Xingran, but she refused and insisted on giving them to her. She said that they, as grown men, didn't need these things, and besides, they already had the bicycle and watch.

When Old Man Su heard it was Su Xingran, he felt a pang of discouragement. After all this commotion, would that girl even help? Old Man Su dragged his heavy steps to his second son's door, but he didn't have the courage to knock. He still remembered what his second son had said that day: "He and his wife could be my parents, or they could not."

Old Su glanced at his second son's door, sighed, turned around, and slowly walked home, his body hunched over. Halfway there, he stopped, standing there lost in thought. After a while, he turned back, reached his second son's door, took a deep breath, exhaled, and knocked on the door.

Su Xingran happened to be home. Hearing a knock at the door, she went out to open it. When she opened it, she saw Old Man Su, and a question flashed in her eyes. Even though Su Xingran disliked the people in the old house, she still had to maintain appearances. "Grandpa, are you here to see my father?"

Old Man Su was somewhat dazed. It had been almost half a year since he last saw Su Xingran. He had heard that the girl had passed the school's assessment and was now studying at home instead of going to school. Su Xingran was much taller than when he last saw her, and her face had become a little fuller. She looked like his second son and his wife, but she was more beautiful and outstanding than either of them.

Old Man Su snapped out of his reverie. "Grandpa's here to see your father. I have something to say to him. Is he home?" "If he is, Grandpa will come in and talk to him." Seeing that Su Xingran hadn't invited him in, Old Man Su had no choice but to gesture for him to come in himself.

Su's father was home; it was already time for him to finish work and have dinner. Su Xingran nodded and stepped aside to let the old man go inside. Only after the old man had gone in did Su Xingran turn around and go back into the house.

Old Man Su walked into the house. His father was drinking water, and his mother was cooking in the kitchen. Seeing Old Man Su, his father called out, "Dad, what brings you here?"

Second brother, your father came to visit today because he wants your help. Your eldest nephew, Wenxing, is getting married soon. In about five days, he'll be going to the bride's family to deliver the betrothal gifts. Wenxing's fiancé is the daughter of the factory's workshop foreman, and the betrothal gifts include three turns and one sound.

We're still short of bicycle and radio coupons. I've been walking around the village all afternoon, but I haven't found any coupons to exchange. Dad's really desperate, that's why I'm bothering you. Do you have any of those coupons at home? If so, lend them to your nephew first, and he can pay you back when he gets the coupons.
