Chapter 91 Su Xingran Goes Up the Mountain to Find the Enemy's Hideout (1/2)

Zhang Yizhu was unaware that he had been exposed. Ever since he met with his superior, who had ordered him to keep an eye on Doctor Huang, he had been seen occasionally loitering near Doctor Huang's house.

Unbeknownst to him, his every move was being closely monitored. Besides Duan Yuming, Dr. Huang's house now also housed two police officers from the police station.

The two of them were hiding in Dr. Huang's house, monitoring pedestrians in front of it. Three other people were monitoring people near Zhang Yizhu's house.

The village chief and brigade leader were invited to the commune. Deng Jianjun explained the actual situation to them and hoped they would cooperate with the work of the soldiers and police.

The battalion commander was alright; he was a veteran and remained calm in the face of such situations. The village chief was startled by Deng Jianjun's words; he hadn't expected that enemy agents were hiding in the village.

The village chief thought things were going to end badly. There was an enemy spy in the village; what would happen to the villagers? Nobody wanted to be associated with an enemy spy.

In the end, it was Deng Jianjun who persuaded him that enemy agents were lurking everywhere, and it was difficult for ordinary people to detect them. Capturing enemy agents and thwarting their conspiracies would also be a way to earn merit.

As long as everyone cooperates fully and eventually captures or eliminates the enemy agents, the higher-ups will not blame the village administrators of Sujia Village or the villagers.

Upon hearing Deng Jianjun's words, the village chief said he would follow the leader's arrangements and fully cooperate with the soldiers and police.

Everything was proceeding under strict surveillance. Aside from the day Su Xingran discovered the situation, everyone ignored her and didn't mention her again. No one intended for a girl in her early teens to participate in such a dangerous matter.

However, after much deliberation, Su Xingran finally decided to venture deep into the mountains to investigate. She had a space where she could hide herself, making it easier for her to gather information than Uncle Duan and the others.

While the villagers were at work, Su Xingran carried a basket up the mountain. The night before, she had told her master that she had something to do and wouldn't be going to his house that day.

Along the way, she walked and stopped, looking here and there. An uninformed person would think she was seriously searching for something. In fact, she was looking for something amiss, or something hidden.

Even though it's sunny now, the sunlight still couldn't penetrate the layers of leaves in the deep mountains. The further Su Xingran walked in, the dimmer the light became.

The deep mountains were like a dark, enormous vortex, ready to swallow anyone at any moment. Su Xingran felt a little uneasy, holding a wooden stick to probe the path. She tried her best not to make any loud noise.

Tired from walking, Su Xingran didn't dare rest on the spot. She hid inside her spatial dimension, ate something, and drank some water to replenish her energy. Just as she finished resting and was about to leave the space...

Suddenly, she heard a sound outside and pricked up her ears to listen. It was a series of chattering words, which Su Xingran understood; it was the language of Japan.

The gist of the message was: "They're going to town to pick someone up; people from above have arrived." Su Xingran could understand Japanese Mandarin because she had learned it while doing missions.

She wasn't wrong; there really were Japanese people hiding deep in the mountains, people who couldn't see the light of day. After the two men had walked away, she followed the direction they had come from and kept walking forward.

Until she reached a place overgrown with weeds, she looked around carefully and noticed something was wrong with the weeds. Some parts looked like they had been disturbed.

Just as she was about to go forward to check the weeds, they began to tremble. Startled, Su Xingran immediately hid in her spatial dimension to investigate what was happening.

The weeds parted, revealing a makeshift door. A man emerged from within; Su Xingran recognized him—it was the man from the cherry blossom country she had met a few days ago.
