Early in the morning, Su's parents took an oxcart to town to buy supplies. Su Xingran's graduation banquet was tomorrow. Su Xingran was left alone at home.
After having breakfast, Su Xingran felt somewhat melancholic. According to the events of her previous life, today was the day after she received her university acceptance letter, and also the day she fell off a cliff and died.
Stepping out of the courtyard and feeling the damp air, Su Xingran touched her left side, touching her heart. A strong, even heartbeat indicated vigorous vitality.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!" A knocking sound came from the door in front of Su Xingran. Su Xingran felt a pang of panic and looked towards the door. The knocking didn't stop even when no one answered.
Su Xingran stared intently at the door, walking step by step until she stopped in front of it. She had a strong premonition about who was outside.
She reached behind the door and opened it. When she saw the person outside, Su Xingran thought to herself, "Just as I thought."
"Xingran, I'm here to congratulate you on getting into university. I apologize for what I did wrong before. I have something I want to talk to you about. Can we go for a walk in the mountains we used to go to?"
"Lately, I've been thinking a lot about our childhood. That mountain holds so many memories for us. You'll be going to university soon, and I don't know if you'll ever come back to Sujia Village. Xingran, come with me for a walk in the mountain!"
Su Xingran stared at Su Wenli, realizing that regardless of her past or present life, her fate and Su Wenli's would be the same. In her past life, she died today; was it possible that one of them would have to die today as well?
"Let's go, I also want to go for a walk in the mountains. I left something somewhere." Su Xingran turned around, locked the gate, and walked towards the path leading up the mountain.
Su Wenli walked behind Su Xingran, surprised that Su Xingran was actually willing to go up the mountain with her. Last night, she had a thought: she wanted Su Xingran to disappear from this world.
She wouldn't allow Su Xingran to be better than her, she wouldn't allow Su Xingran to leave this remote mountain village, and she wouldn't allow Su Xingran to have a bright future.
The two walked up the mountain one after the other. Once they reached the top, Su Xingran stopped and had Su Wenli lead the way. Su Wenli talked incessantly the entire way, while Su Xingran remained silent.
Su Xingran noticed the route Su Wenli was leading her along; a little further ahead was the cliff. It truly was an inescapable fate. This was something Su Xingran had sensed not long after her rebirth, which was why Su Wenli hadn't interfered much. She had been waiting for today to settle things.
Su Wenli walked all the way to the edge of the cliff before stopping. Su Xingran followed her to the edge. Su Wenli turned around and approached Su Xingran.
"Xingran, I've envied you since I was little. I envied that your parents only had you as their child, and that you, being a girl, received all of your parents' love."
"Although I have my grandmother who loves me, it's not the same love I receive. My mother is the same; she loves my older brother the most, and she's only nice to me because my grandmother is nice to me."
"My father and grandfather favored boys over girls, so they never showed me any affection or paid any attention to me."
"Only you, Su Xingran, have obtained everything completely. Parents, master, all kinds of people, and now you have been admitted to university and become the top liberal arts student."
“Go listen to what the villagers are saying about you. They’re all praising Su Xingran for being successful and rising to a higher social status. She’ll be different from the villagers from now on and will become a city dweller.”
