Qin Hanshu and Qin Feiyang exchanged a glance, and in a flash of inspiration, they understood.
"Let's go." Qin Feiyang glanced at Cao Jing, who had her eyes closed, and said in a light tone.
Cao Jing remained asleep.
Qin Feiyang took a day off specifically to wait for her to wake up at home.
The next afternoon, Qin Feiyang came running over, looking completely distraught, "Your sister-in-law is awake, but..."
Qin Hanshu was startled. "But what?"
Qin Feiyang pulled Qin Hanshu over.
Cao Jing lay on the bed with her eyes open, but they looked listless and vacant.
“I called her and she answered, but she remained like this, as if her soul had not yet returned to its place.”
Qin Hanshu stepped forward and called out, "Sister-in-law?"
Suddenly, Cao Jing jolted awake, her eyes darted around, and gradually focused.
Her eyes lingered on Qin Hanshu's face, and she smiled as she asked, "You are... Xiaoshu?"
Qin Hanshu asked, "Do you know me?" When she met Cao Jing, Cao Jing's body was already inhabited by a wandering ghost.
Cao Jing nodded. "Sometimes, I'll be awake."
Cao Jing herself was not entirely clear about what had happened in the previous period. She only knew that she seemed to be trapped in a dark chaos, sometimes conscious, but mostly asleep.
Even when she was conscious, she was in a daze, as if this body did not completely belong to her.
"Am I... seriously ill?" Cao Jing's pale face showed confusion. "Lately, I've had this feeling that I might leave this world at any moment."
Upon hearing this, Qin Feiyang rushed forward and gently stroked his wife's face, his expression a mixture of guilt and lingering fear.
"I'm sorry, Jingjing, it's my fault, I didn't notice in time..."
Cao Jing: "Am I really sick? What kind of sickness?"
Qin Feiyang paused for a moment, then said, "It was a rather strange illness, but it's cured now, so you don't need to be afraid."
Cao Jing smiled and shook her head, saying, "I'm not afraid, and I feel fine now."
Cao Jing seemed to realize that her "illness" was unusual, so she didn't press the matter further and the matter was easily dropped.
She sat up and said weakly, "I'm so hungry, I want to eat something."
Qin Feiyang asked her what she wanted to eat, and Cao Jing said she wanted to eat Zhajiangmian (noodles with soybean paste).
Qin Feiyang eagerly went to make noodles.
Qin Hanshu and Cao Jing were left in the room.
Cao Jing looked at Qin Hanshu with tender eyes, "I can feel it, you're trying hard to drive 'her' away."
Who "she" refers to is obvious without needing to be explicitly stated.
“If it weren’t for that power under the bed, I probably would have disappeared long ago,” Cao Jing added.
Qin Hanshu said, "It's a pity that the power was too weak, allowing 'her' to occupy this body for so long."
Cao Jing: "No matter what, I want to thank you."
"Let's not talk about that for now," Qin Hanshu said. "'She' did some bad things in your body, and your life may have changed as a result, such as family relationships, neighborly relationships, and colleague relationships... You have to be prepared to adapt."
Cao Jing shook her head calmly, "It's okay, I'll just be myself as before. In time, everything will naturally return to its original track."
Qin Hanshu smiled, "That's true."
Qin Feiyang's noodles were ready. Although it was still a while before dinner, Qin Hanshu took the opportunity to eat dinner herself. As for Zhou Weiguang, she told him to eat at the cafeteria.
When Zhou Weiguang returned home from get off work that evening, he found that Qin Hanshu had already eaten across the street. He finally lost his temper and angrily slammed his finger on the table.
"Why are you eating at your parents' house again?!"
Qin Hanshu said innocently, "By the way... you can eat at the cafeteria." The food there is better than what she cooks.
Zhou Weiguang choked, tugged at his top button, bent down and picked up his wife, saying bluntly, "To make it up to me, you'll have to eat yourself!"
Qin Hanshu was shocked, "I didn't say I wanted to compensate you!"
Zhou Weiguang paused, then grew even more furious, gritting his teeth and saying, "I don't care! I'm going to eat it!"
What started as a joke quickly turned into a serious discussion.
Zhou Weiguang put Qin Hanshu down. Just as Qin Hanshu was about to run away, she was pulled back by a strong force.
He was then pinned against the wall.
Qin Hanshu started to soften her tone, "It's not dark yet, how about we come back tonight?"
Zhou Weiguang remained silent, lowering his head to silence the incessant chattering mouth.
It's unclear whether Zhou Weiguang was genuinely angry or just using this as an excuse to act crazy, but he was much more violent than usual.
Qin Hanshu watched helplessly as her button traced an arc in the air before pitifully landing on the ground.
Qin Hanshu was so angry that she punched him hard on the back, "My clothes!"
"I'll buy you a new one!" Zhou Weiguang said, trying to appease him amidst his busy schedule.
However, the hurried and chaotic movements made Qin Hanshu feel dizzy.
She felt herself being lifted up and her feet off the ground.
My back ached a little from rubbing against the wall, but the feeling of lightness quickly took over my mind, and my nerves stopped feeling the discomfort in my back.
"Thump, thump, thump." The metal buckle on the belt struck the wall, making a dull, rhythmic sound.
As the last ray of light faded, Zhou Weiguang finally went to the kitchen to cook, satisfied, and fill his stomach.
"Are you still going to eat?" Zhou Weiguang shouted.
Qin Hanshu lay sprawled on the soft blankets and lazily replied, "Eat something."
I must say, this is really hard work.
Even as the one who suffered the pain, she felt that the noodles with soybean paste she ate at Qin Feiyang's house were a waste of her time.
Zhou Weiguang, the main contributor, could pull up his pants and start cooking with boundless energy.
It's... pretty powerful.
