Chapter 142 Rumors

That day, as soon as Qin Hanshu arrived at work, she felt that she was constantly being stared at.

This was even more true when they arrived at the Labor and Personnel Department's office.

She was somewhat confused.

Just as I sat down, Wang Yinghui, who had been talking to someone, came over.

"Xiao Qin, are you adjusting well these days?"

Qin Hanshu already knew that Zhou Weiguang had gotten his position through the Municipal Bureau of Commerce, which was the department store's parent company. One of Zhou Weiguang's former superiors had become the head of the Municipal Bureau after retiring from the military.

Wang Yinghui was fully aware of this, which is why he took good care of her from the very beginning.

—Although Wang Yinghui seems to have a rather upright personality, his work style is definitely not as it appears.

However, after she joined the company and was handed over to Wu Yingxia, she did not receive any special treatment.

Now that someone had come specifically to greet her, and considering her unusual behavior upon entering the workplace earlier today, Qin Hanshu already had a bad feeling.

She said calmly, "I'm adapting well. Sister Wu takes good care of me. Thank you for your concern, Section Chief."

Wang Yinghui's lips twitched slightly, and he nodded, saying, "That's good. Everyone in our department, including Sister Wu, is very nice. Just ask them if you don't understand anything."

Qin Hanshu: "I will."

After Wang Yinghui left, Sister Zheng across from them got up and sat down in Wu Yingxia's chair, looking at Qin Hanshu with a subtle expression.

Sister Zheng is a straightforward person, unlike others who like to beat around the bush. She said directly, "Xiao Qin, everyone is saying that you and Ye Zhongping are old acquaintances?"

Qin Hanshu was taken aback, then shook her head and said, "No, I didn't know him before I joined the company."

"Then why are you eating together?" Sister Zheng's expression became even more complicated.

"I didn't realize you were so good at dealing with people, Xiao Qin. You've only been at the company for a few days, and you're already having dinner with Ye Zhongping."

"I was wondering why you didn't come to the cafeteria with us that day. Turns out you went out to eat with someone."

Speaking of food, Qin Hanshu remembered the time she shared a table with someone that day.

So that's where the problem lies.

Guangdelou is so close to her workplace, it's normal for colleagues to see her. But it's just incredibly unlucky that she and Ye Zhongping were only at the same table for a few minutes before being seen.

"Hey, you mean that one?"

Qin Hanshu raised her voice.

"I'm pregnant, and I didn't have much of an appetite that day. I wanted to eat something light, so I went to Guangdelou to eat Yangchun noodles."

"Everyone who has eaten at Guangdelou should know that the first floor is crowded and people share tables. I just happened to share a table with Director Ye."

"What old acquaintance, having dinner together? Where did this rumor come from?"

Qin Hanshu's expression revealed her displeasure.

Upon hearing this, Sister Zheng's focus was first on Qin Hanshu's pregnancy, "You're pregnant? Why haven't you mentioned it?"

Qin Hanshu said, "The results were just found out. I was thinking of waiting until everything was more certain before telling everyone."

These words were given to Qin Hanshu by Wu Yingxia. One day, Wu Yingxia saw Qin Hanshu gagging, and Qin Hanshu casually mentioned that she was pregnant.

Wu Yingxia said that the first three months of pregnancy are unstable, so it's best not to announce it, otherwise you might scare the baby away.

At this point, Wu Yingxia walked in. She had been sent by Wang Yinghui to do some errands today, so she was a little late.

Wu Yingxia had obviously overheard Qin Hanshu and Sister Zheng's conversation, and said half-jokingly, "Little Zheng, Qin Hanshu is pregnant, does she have to tell you in person?"

Sister Zheng quickly said, "How could that be! We were just talking about this, so I was just asking casually." As she spoke, she stood up and offered her chair to Wu Yingxia.

Wu Yingxia sat down and said with a smile, "I told Xiao Qin not to announce the pregnancy at the beginning, and that's why she listened to me and didn't tell anyone."

Sister Zheng said, "Sister Wu, you're right!"

Wu Yingxia added, "Although Xiao Qin has only been with our unit for a short time, I've gotten to know her well; she's an honest girl."

Sister Zheng nodded in agreement, "That's right!"

"So, everyone, please stop discussing those ridiculous rumors." Wu Yingxia's expression became more serious. "After all, Xiao Qin is from our department. If you hear anyone else talking about this, please help clarify things."

The colleagues in the office all said, "Of course!"

Soon, people started coming up to Qin Hanshu to chat, asking her when she got married, what her husband did, and even sharing their parenting tips with her.

When he heard that Qin Hanshu was a military family member, his expression immediately changed.

"Oh dear, those people who spread lies deserve to die! They're even spreading rumors about military families!"

Rumors eventually become distorted.

Perhaps those who initially saw Qin Hanshu and Ye Zhongping didn't share much information, but now, Qin Hanshu can tell from the way others look at her that the incident has taken on a somewhat erotic tone.

Explanation alone might not be enough to dispel the rumors, so she simply announced her pregnancy.

We can't pin all that dirty stuff on a pregnant woman, can we?

With Wu Yingxia's help and the spread of her military dependent status, the rumors about her in the unit quickly disappeared.

That afternoon, after get off work, she noticed a significant reduction in the strange looks she had received that morning.

After exiting the elevator, Qin Hanshu saw Cao Jing.

"Sister-in-law? Are you here to buy something at the department store?"

Cao Jing walked over, took Qin Hanshu's arm, and said with a smile, "I said I came here specifically to pick you up and go home together."

As she spoke, Cao Jing winked at Qin Hanshu, "Your Zhou Weiguang came to see me specifically to ask me to go to and from get off work with you and keep an eye on you. It just so happens that I don't have any performances for the next month, so my schedule is relatively stable. I will come to pick you up every day."

Qin Hanshu chuckled, "He's too nervous. I've already told him I can handle things on my own."

Cao Jing said, "Even if he didn't come to me, your brother discussed this with me. The main thing is that this is your first pregnancy, so it's good for you to be a little nervous."

It only takes about ten minutes to walk from the dance troupe to the department store, so it's not a hassle.

Qin Hanshu said gratefully, "Then thank you, sister-in-law."

Cao Jing stopped and said softly:

"Xiao Shu, I'm two years older than you and your sister-in-law. It's no big deal for me to take care of you. I hope you won't be so formal with me. Being polite is for outsiders; you can be more casual with family."

Qin Hanshu paused for a few seconds, then took the initiative, his smile fading as Cao Jing took the lead, but his eyes grew closer. "Mm."

Cao Jing patted Qin Hanshu's hand, and the two went out hand in hand.

After taking only two steps, Cao Jing turned her head to look in one direction and asked Qin Hanshu in a puzzled tone, "Is that person looking at you?"
