Chapter 188 Going to School for Registration

After the Lantern Festival, it will be time to register for university.

Qin Hanshu's morning sickness is much better than before; she only vomits when she smells strange odors.

Cao Jing came over and said, "I'll go with you."

Qin Hanshu: "Aren't you going to work?"

"I'm taking a day off today to help my parents move their things. They're moving to my sister's house."

Cao Jing then explained:

“My dad has retired, and my sister has wanted them to move in with us for a long time, but she’s afraid her mother-in-law won’t be happy.”

“Her mother-in-law passed away before the Lunar New Year, so she brought it up then.”

“My dad wasn’t too keen at first, but my mom wanted to go and help my sister. My sister and brother-in-law both have jobs, and they’ve always been rather rough around the edges when it comes to raising their three children. If my mom goes there, at least she can cook for the kids.”

"Anyway, my brother-in-law's family was allocated a pretty big house, so there's enough room for them to live there."

Qin Hanshu nodded, "That's true."

Cao Jing suddenly paused, then said, "Didn't you say you wanted to apply for a school dormitory? I think you shouldn't apply. Why don't you just stay at my parents' house?"

"Huh?" Qin Hanshu said, "Isn't this a bit inappropriate?"

Cao Jing said reproachfully, "What's wrong with that? My parents were living there before, but I didn't mention it because I was afraid you'd feel uncomfortable. Now that the house is empty, you can move in right away. Jiang Da is right next door to my house, so it's very convenient!"

Hearing this, Qin Hanshu was intrigued.

Her plan to live in the school dormitory was a compromise, since the dormitory was crowded, messy, and inconvenient.

Her primary plan is to rent a house near the school.

However, renting a house depends on fate; you can't just rent one whenever you want.

Qin Hanshu thought for a moment and said, "We should ask my uncle and aunt first. We need their consent."

Cao Jing chuckled and said, "They'll definitely agree."

Cao Jing was right, and the elderly couple nodded without saying a word after hearing it.

Cao's mother held Qin Hanshu's hand and said, "Child, it's alright. You can stay as long as you want, just sleep in the quiet room."

Qin Hanshu smiled and said, "Auntie, I know you mean well, but I still can't stay for free. I plan to give you ten yuan a month for rent, and you must accept it."

Cao's mother seemed startled. "Oh dear, we're in-laws, how can I accept your money? No, no!"

Cao Jing hadn't expected Qin Hanshu to bring up money, and said, "Xiao Shu, why are you being so polite with your sister-in-law?"

“Sister-in-law,” Qin Hanshu squeezed Cao Jing’s hand, “I’m not just being polite to you.”

If the house belongs to Cao Jing, then she naturally doesn't need to be too polite.

But the house belongs to the elderly couple, and Li also has an older sister on her side of the family.

Although everyone is very nice, the relationship has become so distant. She didn't just stay for a few months, but for four years.

It's better to pay rent.

Cao Jing understood Qin Hanshu's meaning and said nothing more.

However, the elderly couple still resolutely refused to accept the money.

Finally, Qin Hanshu said, "I feel more comfortable living here now that you've taken the money. If you don't take the rent, I'll feel awkward moving in."

Having no other choice, Cao's mother took it upon herself to collect the rent, but she cut it in half, only allowing five yuan.

Qin Hanshu thought about it and agreed.

Cao's mother immediately gave Qin Hanshu her key and took her around the house to familiarize her with it. She also introduced her to the neighbors.

When the elderly couple went to their eldest daughter's house, they only brought their personal belongings, and everything in the house was covered with a dust-proof cloth.

Now that Qin Hanshu had moved in, Cao's mother immediately removed the cloth.

Qin Hanshu still had to go to school to register, and after settling the housing matter, she left.

The reporting period lasts for three days, and today is the first day. The school is packed with people.

The air on campus, which had been stagnant for ten years, was now bursting with new vitality.

Qin Hanshu's major is international politics—she didn't choose the school herself, so her major is even less so.

International politics is a lukewarm major, but the fact that the newsroom is located next to the popular literature department makes the contrast quite stark.

As Qin Hanshu walked out of the school after finishing her report, she actually saw a familiar face.

"Wang Xiaogang?" Qin Hanshu patted the man on the back, and when he turned around, she smiled and said, "It really is you."

Wang Xiaogang grinned, "Sister-in-law!"

Qin Hanshu asked, "You got into Jiangnan University?"

Wang Xiaogang nodded, "Yes, it's in the literature department. You got in too, sister-in-law?"

Qin Hanshu replied, "I'm from the Department of International Politics. The reports from both majors are grouped together, and there were probably a lot of people, so I didn't see you just now."

Wang Xiaogang retired last year, and Zhou Weiguang was quite reluctant to see him go, spending several days at home thinking about it.

Over the years, Wang Xiaogang would come to Qin Hanshu's house from time to time for meals and to help out, and he had become quite familiar with her.

To my surprise, when we met again, he had actually been admitted to university.

Qin Hanshu laughed and said, "That's great, you're back in Jiangcheng now. Come over for dinner sometime and see Old Zhou, he misses you a lot."

Wang Xiaogang scratched his head sheepishly, "The regimental commander tried to keep me in the army, but... I've been in the army for many years and I miss freedom a bit."

Wang Xiaogang spoke to Qin Hanshu as if he were speaking to Zhou Weiguang, and he didn't say any polite words, but spoke from the bottom of his heart.

Qin Hanshu expressed her understanding, saying, "Society is currently undergoing a period of change, and you have been admitted to university. You are free to roam the world from now on."

Wang Xiaogang chuckled again, "Sister-in-law, you're still so good with words."

Qin Hanshu said, "Don't call me sister-in-law anymore. We're now alumni, so you can call me classmate or comrade."
