Qin Hanshu had a premonition that a major storm was about to break out in Liu Ercui's house.
But she didn't expect the storm to come so quickly, so big, and to have such serious consequences.
Ever since "Uncle Yue'er" appeared, Liu Ercui felt that Yue'er's identity was not right.
After hearing Qin Hanshu's words, he became even more suspicious.
She's not a calculating person; if she has something on her mind, she'll say it and get to the bottom of it.
So she went straight to the point and asked her husband, "Who exactly are Yue'er's parents?"
Zhang Lei seemed startled, glanced at Liu Ercui in a flustered manner, and then said fiercely, "Why are you asking this again for no reason? Didn't I tell you that Yue'er is the child of one of my comrades-in-arms?"
Liu Ercui continued, "What comrade-in-arms? What's their name?"
Zhang Lei frowned and said, "Did you take the wrong medicine?"
"Are you lying to me?" Liu Ercui stared at the man and asked, "Was Yue'er the child you had with someone else outside?"
"You're talking nonsense!" Zhang Lei was so angry that his face turned red and his neck bulged. "What kind of nonsense are you thinking all day long?"
Liu Ercui snorted, "That's true, you would never treat your own child this well."
Zhang Lei finally understood what Liu Ercui was up to. He said with a headache, "Yue'er is living under someone else's roof. If I don't treat her well, how can she continue to live in this family? I've told you this before, why don't you understand?"
Yes, the man had patiently explained it to her many times.
But she just felt something was wrong.
Liu Ercui remembered the so-called "Uncle Yue'er".
Qin Hanshu is right. He and Yue'er look so alike, their blood relation is probably not a lie.
Liu Ercui stopped bothering Zhang Lei.
The next morning, she called Yue'er over and asked, "Where does your uncle live?"
Yue'er looked wary.
Liu Ercui explained, "Your father asked me to deliver the money, but I forgot to ask where it was."
No matter what, Yue'er is still just a child, and it wouldn't be difficult for Liu Ercui to get information out of her.
Before long, Liu Ercui went out with a wad of cash in her pocket.
He didn't return until after noon, and his face was pale.
The children at home were crying from hunger, and Fan Hongxia had already taken them home for a meal.
When Fan Hongxia saw Liu Ercui return, she called out, "Where have you been? Why do you look so pale? Are you sick?"
Liu Ercui shook her head blankly and went upstairs.
When Pei'er saw her mother return, she immediately put down her chopsticks and followed her back.
Before Fan Hongxia could stop Pei'er, seeing that Yue'er also wanted to leave, she said, "Eat your meal before you go back. Your auntie even fried some eggs for you."
Yue'er paused, swallowing hard.
Fan Hongxia knew the child was craving something, and smiled to herself.
The fried eggs were sprinkled with white sugar, which made them even more fragrant. Yue'er took small bites, as if she were eating some kind of heavenly delicacy.
Fan Hongxia said, "It's okay, eat up. If you're still hungry, Auntie will make you more."
"Auntie, you're so kind," Yue'er said softly. "I love fried eggs the most, but..."
As if she had slipped up, Yue'er shut her mouth tightly halfway through her sentence.
"But what?" Fan Hongxia asked casually, "Your mom doesn't make it for you?"
A deep sense of disappointment appeared on Yue'er's face.
Fan Hongxia raised an eyebrow in surprise. She really had just asked casually, but it turned out to be true! But that can't be, Liu Ercui isn't that kind of person!
Over the years, Fan Hongxia had gotten to know Liu Ercui better, and her opinion of her had changed considerably. Although Liu Ercui was sometimes loud and her words weren't very pleasant, she was a very honest person at heart.
Fan Hongxia looked Yue'er over and over. Could it be that the child was lying?
Fan Hongxia has children of her own and knows that children can sometimes lie more convincingly than adults.
Fan Hongxia's enthusiasm for Yue'er had waned somewhat, but she didn't show it on her face and continued to serve her food and drink attentively.
A short while later, Zhang Lei also returned.
Seeing Yue'er eating at Fan Hongxia's house, he frowned and asked, "Why are you eating here?"
Fan Hongxia answered in her own words, "Er Cui went out today and came back a little late, so I let the child eat at my house."
"Going out?" Liu Ercui usually only wanders around town. Going out would even delay cooking.
Yue'er said, "Mom went to my uncle's today... She said you asked her to go."
Zhang Lei was shocked.
When did he send Liu Ercui to find Lin Peng?!
This is bad news.
Zhang Lei rushed home.
The house was very peaceful, though.
Liu Ercui was watering flowers on the balcony, and it looked no different from usual.
Zhang Lei breathed a sigh of relief.
Perhaps Lin Peng will keep it a secret so he can continue to ask him for money.
Actually, Zhang Lei didn't go to great lengths to hide this matter, because Liu Ercui was a very easygoing person, and she always did whatever he said.
Most importantly, Zhang Lei subconsciously believed that even if Liu Ercui found out, the consequences wouldn't be serious; at most, they would have a big argument and then sleep together.
Haven't we argued enough over the years?
In the end, the couple still have to sleep in the same bed.
Liu Ercui, a rural woman with little education, who else could she marry after leaving him? Only those old bachelors in the countryside who couldn't find wives were waiting for her.
Liu Ercui was very clever in this regard; otherwise, she wouldn't have tried so hard to marry him in the first place.
Zhang Lei felt more and more at ease the more he thought about it.
He shouted at Liu Ercui, "Have you eaten? Make me a bowl of noodles."
Liu Ercui didn't say anything, but she put down the watering can and obediently went to make noodles.
Zhang Lei sat at the table by the kitchen door, watching, and thought to himself, "Actually, Liu Ercui is a pretty good woman."
I've loved following him around since I was little, calling him "brother" this and "brother" that, and I always thought of him when there was something good to be had.
After marrying him, she bore him children, diligently managed everything at home, and was also filial to her elders...
There were wrong things that happened in the past, and we can't blame her entirely.
In the future, I should treat her better and be less irritable.
The noodles were served to Zhang Lei, and Liu Ercui sat down as well.
Zhang Lei glanced at her. "Aren't you going to eat?"
I'm not hungry.
"Oh, that's unusual. But you can't skip meals even if you're not hungry. Go get a bowl, I'll share half of mine with you."
Liu Ercui shook her head.
Zhang Lei ignored it and started slurping his noodles.
Halfway through their noodles, Liu Ercui suddenly said, "Let's get a divorce."
Zhang Lei was caught off guard and startled, spitting out several noodles from his mouth.
"What's wrong with you?!"
“I’m not crazy.” Liu Ercui looked at the man and said solemnly, “I was wrong back then. I shouldn’t have separated you and Doctor Qiao.”
"You still think about her now, and you even brought her child back to raise. This shows that this is the kind of love that you intellectuals always talk about."
"I've thought it through, I'm not going to argue anymore."
Let's get a divorce.
