Chapter 229 "Come to my house for the New Year"

Three days after the concert, Qi Lang went home for a meal. Qi Feng and Liu Ercui were very happy, and Qi Feng even had a few drinks with his son.

After dinner, Qi Lang was about to leave again.

Liu Ercui glanced at Qi Feng and said, "Just sleep at home, and then watch TV with your dad later."

Qi Lang shook his head. "No, I'd better go back to where I am."

Liu Ercui remained silent for a long time before finally sighing, "You child, the older you get, the more distant you become from us."

Peipei nodded in agreement: "Yes, brother, we're all family, don't be so formal."

Qi Lang twitched the corner of his mouth but didn't say anything.

It wasn't that he didn't want to stay at home, but he was afraid that the longer he spent with her, the less satisfied he would be.

But what qualifications does he have?

It's nothing but a despicable delusion.

Peipei offered to walk Qi Lang downstairs, and Liu Ercui opened her mouth as if to say something, but then didn't.

Qi Feng, who had been watching this, suddenly said, "Don't worry, if that kid dares, I'll break his legs."

Liu Ercui was stunned for a moment, then panicked, "I...I didn't..."

Qi Feng raised his hand to interrupt, saying, "What he's thinking, how could I, as his father, not understand? Er Cui, I understand your feelings."

Liu Ercui knew that Qi Feng must think she looked down on Qi Lang, but she didn't know how to explain it. No matter what the reason, she really didn't want Qi Lang and Pei Pei to be together. The more she explained, the more it seemed like she was trying to cover it up.

I'd better just say nothing.

Downstairs, Peipei was about to turn back after seeing Qi Lang off, but Qi Lang called her back.

"You..." Qi Lang hesitated for a long time before finally saying, "The stairwell is dark, be careful." He paused, then added, "Or should I walk you up?"

Peipei laughed out loud, "You give me a ride, I give you a ride, when will this ever end?"

Qi Lang was infected by the laughter and started laughing too.

The dim streetlights cast a soft, hazy glow on the scene, making it look exceptionally beautiful.

Inside the car, Zhou Chi remained expressionless, his dark eyes behind his glasses fixed on the other side.

Suddenly, he turned on the car's headlights.

The blinding light shone over, and both the man and the woman looked over at the same time.

Peipei didn't recognize Zhou Chi until he got out of the car.

"Little Chi, what brings you here so late?"

Zhou Chi walked over slowly, stopped, and said in a deep voice, "I've come to see you. Peipei, we're the same age, so don't call me 'little brother' anymore."

Peipei said shyly, "I'm used to it."

She stole a glance at Zhou Chi.

Zhou Chi, dressed in a black overcoat, was tall and slender, and his presence exuded a calm, polite, refined, and noble air.

He certainly doesn't look like a younger brother...

Fortunately, the streetlights were dim, and no one noticed the blush on her face.

The three of them fell silent for a moment before Zhou Chi spoke first: "Qi Lang, please go ahead if you have something to do. I need to talk to Pei Pei for a bit."

Qi Lang neither spoke nor moved.

Until Peipei said, "Yes, brother, you should go back first."

Qi Lang lowered his head slightly.

Ever since Zhou Chi appeared, Peipei's body has been involuntarily leaning towards him. She used to be closer to him, but now it feels like there's a galaxy between them.

Qi Lang was a little taller than Zhou Chi, but at this moment he suddenly felt that Zhou Chi was standing on a high place looking down at him.

Qi Lang chuckled to himself. Family background, education, ability... no matter which aspect, he couldn't compare to Zhou Chi.

He could guess exactly what his parents would think.

His feelings are not valued by anyone but himself.

Including Pepe.

He shouldn't have had that thought in the first place.

Qi Lang turned and left, his thin jacket unable to keep out the cold night wind, and he hunched over from the cold.

Zhou Chi pulled Peipei into the car, but didn't say anything, just looked at Peipei.

Peipei's heart skipped a beat, but she pretended to be calm and said, "Is there something on my face? Why are you looking at me so intently?"

Zhou Chi suddenly smiled, "I was just reminiscing about the past, and I feel like we've missed a lot of time."

Peipei asked, puzzled, "What do you mean?"

Zhou Chi didn't speak, but his gaze towards Peipei gradually became more intense.

As Peipei's face grew increasingly red, Zhou Chi finally looked away and asked, "I heard your family is going back to the countryside for the New Year this year?"

Peipei secretly breathed a sigh of relief and nodded, "Mm."

"You don't want to go back?"

Peipei nodded again, "Whether it's my grandparents or my maternal grandparents, they practically wear their dislike for me on their faces. What's the point of me going back?"

Liu Ercui made money and didn't hesitate to spend it on her daughter, Peipei, who was truly raised in luxury.

After her business grew, Liu Ercui would take her child back to her hometown every year. The elders on both the Zhang and Liu families had a lot of opinions about Peipei's comfortable life, saying that it was unnecessary to raise a girl so delicately. They even suggested that Peipei stay in the countryside so that they could help discipline her properly, otherwise such a spoiled girl would never be able to get married in the future.

Furthermore, it was said that Peipei would stay in the countryside while her twin sons went to the city with Liu Ercui.

Neither of the twins got into university, so they came to the city to help out at Liu Ercui's company. Otherwise, such a large family business would have ended up in Zhang Minyong's hands. Zhang Minyong wasn't close to the people in his hometown, so he couldn't possibly give the elderly couple much benefit—they naturally assumed that while Peipei could be raised in luxury, inheriting the family business was out of the question.

Liu Ercui refused outright, without even trying to find a way to back down.

Moreover, it was clearly stated that half of the shares in the housekeeping company and the chain restaurant had been transferred to Peipei's name when she turned eighteen, and she would manage the annual dividends herself.
