Chapter 25 She's not short of money!

Qin Hanshu blinked and changed the subject, saying, "By the way, I found some rats in the cave dwelling. I'm thinking of catching a cat to keep as a pet. Do you know anyone who has one?"

There are quite a few people in Haowan Village who keep dogs, but very few who keep cats.

Zhou Ruilan thought for a while before saying, "I know that Wang Laowu's family in Niuwang Village had a litter of kittens two months ago."

Zhou Ruilan said enthusiastically, "After the autumn harvest, I'll take you to see it."

Qin Hanshu quickly thanked him, saying, "Then I'll trouble you."

Zhou Ruilan waved her hand magnanimously.

Zhou Ruilan was warm, cheerful, and talkative, while Qin Hanshu, though not very talkative, responded to every word Zhou Ruilan uttered. Working together, the two quickly became acquainted.

"Once the wheat is planted, the team will organize a hunting trip. That will be a lot of fun!"

Qin Hanshu looked around and saw only bare yellow earthen slopes, so she asked, "Are we going hunting on the mountain across the river?"

Zhou Ruilan shook her head and said, "I only go hunting in the mountains in December. Right now, I'm just hunting pheasants and rabbits in the fields. I've never gone hunting in the mountains before because there are too many wild animals, and my dad won't let me go."

Zhou Ruilan glanced at Qin Hanshu and said, "My third brother went there when he was at home. He and the militia hunted a really big wild boar. He was only fourteen years old then, but he was at the forefront. The militia members all praised him for his courage!"

Zhou Ruilan kept mentioning her third brother, clearly very proud of him. Qin Hanshu smiled and offered a few compliments.

Zhou Ruilan smiled so much that her dimples deepened.

In fact, after observing for several days, Zhou Ruilan and Zhao Chunmiao had determined that Qin Hanshu did not know Zhou Weiguang and that the two were probably not in a romantic relationship.

However, since they had already put themselves in that role from the beginning, both Zhou Ruilan and Zhao Chunmiao felt regretful.

Zhou Ruilan took after her biological mother, Zhao Chunmiao, and judged people by their appearance first.

Back then, the Zhao family was wealthy, and Zhao Chunmiao was a famously beautiful woman in the surrounding villages. People came to propose marriage so many times that they wore out the door. However, she only took a liking to Zhou Chang'an, whose family was dirt poor, simply because of Zhou Chang'an's face.

Zhou Ruilan is now at the age where she wants to get married, and her first requirement is that the man must be good-looking.

The mother and daughter took a liking to Qin Hanshu at first sight. The thought that this woman might be Zhou Weiguang's girlfriend made them even more satisfied with everything about her.

The two even hoped that Qin Hanshu would join them soon so they could see each other every day.

However, reality is often so cruel.

After facing reality, Zhou Ruilan and Zhao Chunmiao, though regretful, did not give up.

Xiao Qin, the educated youth, has no boyfriend, and neither does her third brother. Why can't they get together? Although the two don't know each other yet, it doesn't matter. She can first tell Xiao Qin about her third brother's good qualities.

After talking about it for a while, even if Xiao Qin hadn't met Third Brother yet, she would subconsciously develop some goodwill towards him. And when they finally meet, things might just fall into place naturally!

At this moment, Qin Hanshu's flattery of Zhou Weiguang made Zhou Ruilan very happy.

See, the effect is obvious!

Zhou Ruilan got even more excited, reminiscing about all of Zhou Weiguang's glorious deeds from childhood to adulthood, "Back when my third brother was wearing open-crotch pants..."

***

When Qin Hanshu finished work in the evening, her mind was completely filled with thoughts of Zhou Weiguang.

Zhou Ruilan has some of the skills of Tang Sanzang.

Qin Hanshu shivered, shook her head, and managed to banish the name Zhou Weiguang from her mind.

It was completely dark by then, but the moon was bright enough to see the road without a flashlight.

After a day's work in the fields, the people went home in large groups. After leaving the fields, they dispersed to different corners of the village in twos and threes.

Qin Hanshu went to the educated youth settlement alone.

"Little Qin, the educated youth." Niu Erdan's voice came from behind.

Qin Hanshu turned around and found that it wasn't just Niu Erdan, but also Accountant Niu. The two brothers walked home side by side.

The Niu family and the educated youth settlement are in the same direction.

Niu Erdan called out to Qin Hanshu, bringing the three of them closer together. Niu Erdan chatted casually with Qin Hanshu.

Suddenly, Accountant Niu tripped and almost fell. His first reaction was not to do anything else, but to hold up his glasses.

Niu Erdan said, "Brother, take off those glasses. People wear glasses to see clearly, but you're getting blinder the more you wear them."

Accountant Niu retorted, "Nonsense! Before I wore glasses, I couldn't see anything clearly and I would fall down seven or eight times a day. Now I only fall down three times a day!"

Niu Erdan was silent for a while, then said, "Brother, you're really stubborn."

Qin Hanshu quickly pursed her lips, suppressing a laugh.

Accountant Niu then remembered that Qin Hanshu was also present, and coughed lightly to cover up his embarrassment.

"Little Qin, is this your first time experiencing the autumn harvest? You must be tired."

Qin Hanshu smiled and said, "I went to the shaiba this afternoon, and it felt alright."

Accountant Niu nodded and said, "I remember now, I was the one who notified you."

Qin Hanshu remembered what Niu Erdan had told her about the radio station, and since there had been no news about it for so long, she took the opportunity to inquire:

"Accountant Niu, I saw you coming back from the commune the other day, carrying a whole bunch of stuff, including what looked like a megaphone. What was it for?"

Niu Erdan chimed in, "Didn't I tell you last time that the brigade is going to set up a broadcasting station?"

Qin Hanshu: "...Oh, I forgot."

Accountant Niu saw through Qin Hanshu's thoughts and laughed, "Yes, if we set up a radio station, we'll have to choose a broadcaster from among you educated youth."

The production team's announcers weren't actually required to speak standard Mandarin, since the audience was mostly local, and people felt more comfortable speaking in their native dialect.
