Chapter 29 Sister Shu is awesome

After the autumn harvest, the team organized a hunting trip.

The area around Haowan Village is filled with ditches, streams, and hills, but there are no large forests or tall trees; instead, low shrubs are the most common vegetation.

However, the bushes are home to many small animals such as pheasants and rabbits during this season.

The educated youth, especially the male ones, were very interested in the activity and everyone signed up. Among the female educated youth, only Qin Hanshu and Zhang Kangmei went.

I later learned that Zhang Kangmei also grew up in a military compound and received military-style education from her parents from a young age.

Ma Chaoyang and Lin Zhiheng were the same; they had been handling guns since they were young.

Qin Hanshu signed up for the hunting team, not for fun, but to take the opportunity to throw a few pheasants and rabbits into her spatial storage for future enjoyment.

After all, you can't eat those mythical beasts in the space.

During the autumn harvest, she secretly took a handful of rice seeds while the grain was drying and planted them in her spatial dimension. Now, there's no shortage of food, only a shortage of meat.

The hunting team was led by the militia of the production brigade. The militia captain was short and thin at first glance, but he had sharp eyes and strong arms. He was said to be a sharpshooter.

Seeing so many educated youths arrive, he showed a look of disgust, especially when he saw the delicate Qin Hanshu. He waved his hand and said, "Hunting is not a game. All irrelevant people, please leave."

Qin Hanshu said, "Captain, I'm not here to play around!"

The militia captain glanced at her sideways and asked, "Can you shoot a gun?"

Zhou Ruilan quickly spoke up for her, saying, "Xiao Wu, hunting doesn't always require a gun. It's fine if Xiao Qin, the educated youth, comes with us."

The brigade has more than a dozen militiamen, but the militia only has two Type 56 semi-automatic rifles and six single-barreled gunpowder shotguns. Moreover, bullets are very expensive, and today they only took out one Type 56 semi-automatic rifle to use.

The hunting team consisted of more than twenty people, most of whom didn't even need guns.

The militia captain only said that because he thought Qin Hanshu looked delicate and didn't want to cause her any trouble.

But since Zhou Ruilan spoke up for Qin Hanshu, he couldn't really argue back. After all, even though he wasn't young anymore, according to seniority, he still had to call Zhou Ruilan "aunt."

The militia captain reluctantly kept Qin Hanshu.

Autumn hunting mainly involves hunting pheasants and rabbits, and if you're lucky, you might encounter gazelles.

These animals hide in the bushes and are driven around by a group of people to expose them, before being shot by armed hunters.

Some even carried traditional bows and arrows, and their results were quite good.

Qin Hanshu and several other educated youths were working with Zhou Ruilan and her group, driving prey away. But soon, Ma Chaoyang, Zhang Kangmei, and Lin Zhiheng sneaked into the shooting team.

While gathering prey, Qin Hanshu had already thrown two wild rabbits, one male and one female, and a pheasant into her spatial storage.

Both the hare and the pheasant were bitten by the dogs in the group and were half-dead. Qin Hanshu was hoping to save the hare and see if it could have baby rabbits so that they could eat more meat in the future.

With her mind focused on saving the wild rabbit's life, Qin Hanshu decided to slip away first.

She had just spoken to Zhou Ruilan when Zhang Kangmei ran over and said, "Han Shu, come play with us!"

Qin Hanshu quickly shook his head and said, "I have something to do, I want to go back first."

"What could possibly be wrong with you?!" Zhang Kangmei grabbed Qin Hanshu and ran off. "Come on, come on, we're short one person for our team, come and make up the numbers!"

Zhang Kangmei and his two companions hung out with the militia, and gradually, somehow, they split into two factions and started a competition.

There were four militia members and only three educated youth.

Although Zhang Kangmei and his two companions were quite capable, they were certainly no match for the experienced militiamen when it came to hunting.

The militia already looked down on educated youth, and when they saw that the one they pulled in to make up the numbers was a delicate female educated youth, they were even more unhappy.

"With your lineup, even if we win, it wouldn't be a fair victory. If that doesn't work, we can have one person step down, making it three against three?"

"Or two of you could step back, making it two against three, since you still have a female comrade on your side."

Zhang Kangmei retorted, "I am a woman, but that doesn't mean I'm inferior to men!"

"That's settled then, four against four," Lin Zhiheng said calmly. "If you lose to those delicate female educated youths, don't cry."

The militiamen were immediately provoked.

"Lose? I've never even known how to write the word 'lose'!"

Militia captain Zhou Xiaowu sneered, "To be fair, we'll divide the number we hunt by 2 before comparing it with yours. Otherwise, I'll lose face."

The competition was decided by the number of prey caught.

Ma Chaoyang shouted, "Enough with the nonsense, let's finish the fight first."

Zhang Kangmei was already preparing to teach Qin Hanshu how to use HunterQ.

Qin Hanshu had no choice but to force the issue.

Load the gunpowder and iron shot, then pull the trigger to ignite the fuse, which in turn ignites the gunpowder and propels the iron shot out.

The operation is not difficult; the main thing is whether you can catch the prey.

Lin Zhiheng said seriously, "I believe in your abilities. Last time you threw a clod of dirt at that guy, you were pretty accurate."

Qin Hanshu said speechlessly, "How can that be the same?"

Ma Chaoyang said, "That's about right, as long as it's accurate."

Zhang Kangmei shared her experience, "It's mainly about feeling. After all, prey isn't like Liao Yujie, standing still. It's moving, and you have to judge its next move."

Lin Zhiheng nodded and said, "You'll get the feel for it after a few more hits."

The militia team and the educated youth team divided up different areas, and then set a time for the two teams to gather and settle accounts with the game they had hunted. Whoever had more game won.

Soon, the two teams split up.

Qin Hanshu carried the gunpowder gun on her back, feeling a little scared. Would it explode?
