Qin Hanshu had already witnessed Zhao Chunmiao's enthusiasm, but she was still somewhat flattered. "Auntie, I'm sorry to bother you."
As he spoke, he handed over the canned fruit in his hand.
"Hey! Why are you sending things again!" Zhao Chunmiao waved her hand at Zhou Ruilan. "You woman, why don't you stop me!"
Zhou Ruilan swiftly hid behind Qin Hanshu.
Qin Hanshu quickly said, "Auntie, it's only right to bring something when you're a guest. Please accept it; it will make me feel more at ease."
"You're too kind, kid..." Zhao Chunmiao said with a wry smile, before finally deciding to accept the canned food.
Zhou Ruilan carried the canned food and walked behind, while Zhao Chunmiao grabbed Qin Hanshu's hand and pulled her into the house, looking very affectionate.
Even Zhou Ruilan behind her couldn't help but feel envious, muttering, "He forgets his own daughters-in-law as soon as he sees his daughter-in-law. No, she's not even his daughter-in-law yet..."
Qin Hanshu didn't hear clearly, so she turned around and asked, "Lan Hua, what did you say?"
Zhao Chunmiao pulled Qin Hanshu back and laughed, "This kid just loves to mutter to herself, just ignore her!" Then she secretly glared at Zhou Ruilan, meaning to tell her not to talk nonsense.
Zhou Ruilan pursed her lips in regret. After all, this was just a little thought between her and her mother. If it were said out loud and the person in question heard it, wouldn't it be incredibly embarrassing?
Upon entering the house, Zhao Chunmiao asked Qin Hanshu to sit on the kang (a heated brick bed) and placed the washed grapes in front of her.
Zhou Ruilan said first, "These were planted behind my house. My mom personally picked the reddest ones for you!"
Qin Hanshu became increasingly uncomfortable—this treatment was a bit too good.
Faced with this situation, according to her habitual thinking, she should guess what the Zhou family's purpose is and what they want to get from her.
But for some reason, she didn't think about it at all at that moment.
"Thank you, Auntie." Qin Hanshu took the grapes Zhao Chunmiao handed her and put them in her mouth under Zhao Chunmiao's expectant gaze.
It's sweet and sour, and very delicious.
Qin Hanshu nodded with a smile, "Delicious!"
Zhao Chunmiao smiled happily, "You play here with Lan Hua, I'll go cook some more dishes, and we'll eat when your uncle comes back." After saying that, she turned and left.
Zhou Ruilan also sat down on the kang (a heated brick bed) and ate some grapes.
Qin Hanshu asked, "Where is the Party Secretary?"
"They're at the team headquarters." Zhou Ruilan spat out a grape seed with a "pfft." "Accountant Niu set up a broadcasting station, and they're discussing the broadcaster."
At this point, Zhou Ruilan leaned closer and asked Qin Hanshu, "My dad said that if you want to be a broadcaster, he'll suggest it to Accountant Niu."
With a "gulp," a grape seed in her mouth unexpectedly slipped into her throat, and Qin Hanshu quickly patted her chest.
After clearing her throat twice, she shook her head and said, "Thank you for your kindness, Party Secretary, but my abilities are limited, and I'm afraid I'm not qualified to be a broadcaster."
"Hmph!" Zhou Ruilan waved her hand dismissively. "What's there to be unable to do? You're too modest."
Qin Hanshu shook her head again, "Forget it, I don't need those two jobs anyway."
Zhou Ruilan thought that Qin Hanshu was in a good position, so there was no need for her to find more work for herself, and she stopped mentioning the matter.
The two chatted idly.
Zhou Ruilan's gaze gradually shifted to Qin Hanshu's face.
She asked in surprise, "Little Qin, do you use face cream every day? I feel like your face looks even softer after just a few days."
Qin Hanshu touched her face and asked doubtfully, "Really?"
She uses the water from the space most of the time, whether she's cooking, drinking water, or washing her face. At first, she could clearly feel the changes in her skin, but later she gradually stopped noticing them.
Zhou Ruilan nodded repeatedly, "Yes, yes, it looks so smooth and tender, just like my three-year-old niece!"
Qin Hanshu smiled and casually said, "I don't know either. Maybe it's because I was in a good mood after cutting in line?"
Zhou Ruilan asked curiously, "The other educated youths don't seem to miss home, so why are you in such a good mood? Don't you miss home?"
Qin Han paused, then shook his head with a smile: "I miss home, but..."
But she longed for the home where her father was still alive, a home she could never return to.
Just as Zhou Ruilan was about to say something, Zhou Chang'an's voice rang out from outside.
When Zhou Chang'an returned, Zhao Chunmiao had already cooked the dishes, and Qin Hanshu followed Zhou Ruilan to serve the food.
Zhao Chunmiao prepared a very lavish meal.
Stir-fried bamboo shoots, cucumber salad, pork ribs stewed with potatoes, and a big pot of mixed vegetables.
The main dish is white noodles, and the thinner option is golden and fragrant millet porridge.
Zhao Chunmiao added, "It's nothing special, Xiao Qin, just make do with it."
Qin Hanshu quickly said, "Auntie, this is already very good!"
These days, serving guests food like this would be presentable anywhere.
Zhao Chunmiao smiled and said, "Auntie knows your family is well-off, and your meals must be good, but it's inevitable that you might eat a little less elaborately when you're alone. Come over often in the future, just tell me what you'd like to eat, and Auntie will cook it for you..."
"Cough cough cough!" Zhou Chang'an interrupted Zhao Chunmiao's enthusiasm, pointing to the millet porridge and saying, "It's a bit dry, add more water next time."
Zhao Chunmiao glared at him, "Just eat yours, why are you being so demanding!"
Zhou Chang'an remained calm and composed, showing no signs of anger.
After a while, he turned to Qin Hanshu and asked, "Is that Xiao Zhang still researching power generation?"
Qin Hanshu paused for a moment before realizing that they were talking about Zhang Kangmei's research on biogas power generation—she had almost forgotten about it.
"It seems like they're still flipping through a book..."
Zhou Chang'an shook his head and said, "Just flipping through books won't do. You are educated youth, so you must know the term 'reinventing the wheel'."
