Chapter 35 Open Cards

The tractor bumped along the way and finally arrived at its destination before lunch.

Guangming Farm is very large, and the people there are a diverse mix, including original employees, educated youth from the Production and Construction Corps, and people who have come for labor reform.

Qin Hanshu and the others, holding their letters of introduction, were greeted by members of the Youth League branch.

Qin Hanshu raised an eyebrow in surprise when she saw the person in front of her.

I never expected it to be Bai Huilan.

Bai Huilan was considered Hu Wenwen's rival in love, and Hu Wenwen often criticized her in private.

She actually became an educated youth in the same place as Hu Wenwen?

How can these two possibly get away with this?

Bai Huilan narrowed her eyes when she heard Qin Hanshu's name.

Last time, Hu Wenwen hurriedly sent a message to her younger sister, whose name seemed to be Qin Hanshu.

Bai Huilan naturally didn't have a good impression of Hu Wenwen's sister, but because of work, she at least gave her a smile.

Upon hearing that they had come to learn biogas technology, Bai Huilan took them to meet the technicians without hesitation.

However, she also had to stay by her side.

The farm workers were happy to teach them the techniques for building biogas digesters. Several educated youths took notes in their notebooks, asking detailed questions about the technical details, costs, and other issues.

The educated youth then realized that biogas could not only generate electricity and provide lighting, but also be used for cooking and to replace gasoline and diesel in powering machines.

With biogas, they won't even need firewood anymore!

The educated youth studied even more diligently.

Finally, the farm staff asked if they needed a technician to go back with them to help with the construction.

Qin Hanshu and Zhang Kangmei looked at Lin Zhiheng, who was in charge of the technical details.

Lin Zhiheng thought for a moment and said, "It should be fine. If anything comes up that I can't handle, I'll come back again."

Seeing his confidence, the people on the farm said no more.

After visiting the farm's biogas digester and chatting with the technicians for an afternoon, we agreed to participate in the construction of a new biogas digester on the farm tomorrow morning. That's how today went.

Bai Huilan asked, "Where are you staying? In town? Or will you stay at our farm's guesthouse?"

It only takes about twenty minutes to drive a tractor from here to town.

Qin Hanshu said, "Let's stay at the farm; it'll be more convenient."

Bai Huilan nodded, looked Qin Hanshu up and down, and couldn't help but ask, "You're Hu Wenwen's sister, right? Why don't you have the same surname?"

Qin Hanshu laughed and said, "Half-father, half-mother, how can we have the same surname?"

Zhang Kangmei asked in surprise, "What sister? What half-sister?"

Qin Hanshu gave a concise explanation.

Bai Huilan asked tentatively, "So you and Hu Wenwen have a pretty good relationship?"

Qin Hanshu smiled enigmatically, without saying a word. However, her expression was enough to tell the whole story.

No one else is surprising.

It's normal for half-sisters from different fathers to have a bad relationship!

Bai Huilan found Qin Hanshu more agreeable. "No wonder, you don't look like that dark-skinned monkey at all."

Bai Huilan seemed quite pleased with herself, knowing that Hu Wenwen, who cared so much about her appearance, must be extremely jealous of Qin Hanshu.

When she gets back, she'll definitely use Qin Hanshu to give Hu Wenwen a good thrashing.

Seeing Bai Huilan's expression, Qin Hanshu knew that his plan would not fail.

Hu Wenwen will take the initiative to see her.

Bai Huilan returned to her dormitory, where Hu Wenwen was combing her hair again.

As if she had just realized something, her expression changed, and she shrieked, "Hu Wenwen, do you have lice in your hair?!"

Hu Wenwen paused, then hurriedly put away the comb.

Bai Huilan asserted, "You have lice!"

Bai Huilan's loud voice quickly attracted the attention of others. Everyone looked at Hu Wenwen with fear and wariness, as if Hu Wenwen were some kind of plague.

Hu Wenwen was so embarrassed she wanted to disappear into the ground.

She argued, "It didn't grow on my own head. Tiehua from the next dormitory sat on my bed and infected me."

Tiehua was a notorious slob; she hadn't washed her hair once since being sent to the countryside. Everyone knew she had lice, so what Hu Wenwen said might be true.

But other people don't care where your lice came from; if you have them on your head, it means you're not clean!

Bai Huilan took two steps back and said with disgust, "So that's why you love looking in the mirror and combing your hair so much! You're picking lice out of your hair! You're disgusting! How unlucky I am to be in the same dorm room as you!"

Hu Wenwen, forcing herself to maintain her pride, said, "I will handle it myself, and I will definitely not infect you."

Someone asked, "What are you going to do? Shave your head off completely?"

"Why don't we just apply to the company to transfer her out of our dormitory? I really don't want to live with someone like her."

"Where would she be transferred to? Who would want her?"

"Send her to sleep in the cowshed!"

“The cow isn’t happy about it! Other cows are scrubbed clean every day, and they don’t have any fleas.”

Hu Wenwen felt as if all the blood in her body had rushed to her face, and her whole body swayed precariously.

But Bai Huilan still wouldn't let her go.

"Tsk tsk, how do you even have the nerve to live in this world? You look in the mirror every day, you should be ashamed of your face."

"You're not even as good as your sister's finger. She's much prettier than you... That's right, you weren't born to the same parents, so naturally you're the same person."

Hu Wenwen, who had been looking down and clenching his fists, suddenly looked up upon hearing this. Forgetting his shame and indignation, he hurriedly asked Bai Huilan, "Qin Hanshu? Have you seen her?"

Bai Huilan shouldn't know Qin Hanshu.

Bai Huilan laughed and said, "Of course I saw her. She's beautiful and, more importantly, seems to have good character. She would never do anything so despicable as to covet someone else's partner..."

"Where did you meet her?" Hu Wenwen asked excitedly as she approached Bai Huilan, no longer caring about anything else.

All she could think about was Qin Hanshu. She had a chance to reclaim the space, and she could regain everything she had before!

Bai Huilan took a few steps back in disgust, but still told Hu Wenwen where Qin Hanshu was.

Upon hearing this, Hu Wenwen dashed out quickly, her hair disheveled and wearing slippers.

Hu Wenwen arrived even faster than Qin Hanshu had imagined.

The two stood facing each other at the entrance of the guesthouse.

You could tell from their eyes that they knew each other's secrets.

This hand is an open hand.

Qin Hanshu suddenly burst into laughter.

"Hu Wenwen, you've only been in the countryside for a few days, how come you've gotten so much uglier?"
