Chapter 7 Pre-departure Shopping

After finishing everything, Qin Hanshu returned to her room, took a nap, and then cleaned up all her belongings.

She will be able to use these things after she goes to the countryside.

As soon as it was light, Qin Hanshu took her suitcase and went out.

The courtyard was bustling with activity; some were washing up, while others were squatting by the door eating breakfast.

Upon seeing Qin Hanshu, the neighbors all gathered around.

"Han Shu, are you going to the countryside?"

"Your mom's not back yet? Aren't you going to take you to the train station?"

"Not only did you not send anything, but you didn't even prepare anything for me?"

In recent days, her neighbors have come to visit her one after another.

The neighbors were generally friendly to Qin Hanshu, but disliked the Hu family and Yang Aizhen. However, they were afraid of Hu Dayong and Hu Bingbing and only dared to despise them behind their backs.

Qin Hanshu paused for a moment and answered the questions from her neighbors.

One of the elderly ladies, surnamed Wu, had always doted on Qin Hanshu. On the night Hu Bingbing pushed open Qin Hanshu's door, it was Grandma Wu who was the first to get up and stop him.

At this moment, her eyes were red and she held Qin Hanshu's hand, sighing repeatedly, "Poor child..."

Hearing her say that made Qin Hanshu feel a little sour, and the others shook their heads and sighed in response.

Grandma Wu said, "Girl, if you need any help from Grandma after you go to the countryside, just write to Grandma and tell her."

Qin Hanshu nodded repeatedly.

"Wait a minute!" Grandma Wu turned and went back into the house. When she came out a moment later, she was holding a bag of snacks. "Here, take this and eat it on the way."

Seeing this, the others followed Grandma Wu's example, bringing out whatever they had at home and thoughtfully packing it all in a net bag for Qin Hanshu to carry.

Qin Hanshu couldn't refuse, so she finally accepted. After thinking for a moment, she suggested exchanging the money for some industrial vouchers with everyone.

The neighbors all felt sorry for her and none of them were unhappy about it.

Grandma Wu kindly went to other courtyards to exchange for more than a dozen households in the front and back yards, and in the end, she received more than thirty bills in total.

That's already pretty good.

Qin Hanshu bowed gratefully to everyone.

As she reached the screen wall, she couldn't help but turn back for a glance.

In the morning light, the courtyard stands solemnly, while the noise of the crowd adds a touch of warmth and life.

If the Hu family lives here for a few more years, she will definitely take the house back.

***

After leaving home, Qin Hanshu went to the neighborhood office and threw an anonymous letter there.

The anonymous letter was a report accusing Hu Wenwen of evading being sent to the countryside.

When the school mobilized students earlier, Hu Wenwen used finding a job as an excuse to avoid it. Now that she has lost her job, it is natural for her to go to the countryside.

Even if Qin Hanshu doesn't report her, as long as Hu Wenwen continues to loiter around, the neighborhood committee will eventually come after her.

The report was simply to speed things up and prevent Hu Wenwen from having time to find a job.

Next, Qin Hanshu sent an anonymous letter to the meat processing plant.

A report was filed against Hu Bingbing for sexually assaulting a female worker.

Although Hu Bingbing is mentally challenged, his physical development is normal, and he naturally has sexual needs as he reaches a certain age. Normal people can control these needs, but Hu Bingbing cannot.

He initially set his sights on Qin Hanshu, but when that failed, he turned his attention to a female worker at the meat processing plant and began to grope her.

The female worker wanted to complain to the factory, but her family was afraid of the negative impact and tried their best to stop her. This emboldened Hu Bingbing, and eventually the female worker got pregnant.

After becoming pregnant, the female worker had no choice but to marry Hu Bingbing.

Hu Bingbing was a fool who couldn't control his primal animalistic desires, so the female workers' lives were miserable. They were beaten at the drop of a hat, and only their first child was born; they had four miscarriages afterward.

He endured it for ten years before finally succumbing to his anger and fleeing to the south.

Later, this female worker became successful in business in the south. Unexpectedly, she ran into the Hu family again in the business world and was severely punished by Hu Wenwen, who held a grudge.

Qin Hanshu remembered that when the female worker ended up in prostitution, Hu Wenwen stood on the moral high ground, condemning her for abandoning her husband and children, saying she deserved such an end.

All of this happened after Qin Hanshu died.

At this point, Hu Bingbing was probably still harassing the female worker.

Qin Hanshu wrote a letter exposing the matter, and the factory leaders would definitely take notice.

Hopefully, the female worker will have the courage to speak the truth and prevent future tragedies from happening.

Naturally, Qin Hanshu also hoped that Hu Bingbing could be punished for this, even if it was just losing his job.

After doing these two things, she went to the bank and withdrew three thousand yuan.

Then they started visiting cooperatives to continue purchasing.

Toothpaste, soap, laundry detergent, toilet paper, toothbrush, nylon gloves, rain boots, raincoat, mosquito coils, matches, flashlight, batteries, towels, thermos flask, shampoo...

These are daily necessities, all purchased with industrial coupons, and the amount purchased is enough for her to use for three years.

There was also food.

Sesame oil, noodles, cooking oil, sugar, various seasonings and other non-staple foods.

This amount is a bit small, especially the oil; it'll probably only last about six months. But that's okay; we can figure out another way once we get there.

Qin Hanshu counted the tickets in her hand and then bought a watch and a semiconductor device.

The industrial vouchers are almost all used up.

She figured things wouldn't spoil if stored in a space, so she also bought some cooked food.

She loved snacks like lotus seed paste pastry, red bean paste pastry, chestnut cake, mung bean cake, and jujube cake, and bought five pounds of each.

There are also fifty meat buns, twenty steamed buns, twenty sesame flatbreads, twenty white sugar flatbreads, and twenty meat pies with door nails.

These pastries and dry rations are for emergencies; once they're gone, they can be replenished later.

Oh right, since she wouldn't be able to eat roast duck for a long time, Qin Hanshu bought five roast ducks and had the chef carve them.
