Chapter 8 "Hurry up and pack your things, get ready to go to the countryside"

After bringing Grandma Hu to the city, Yang Aizhen kept her promise to take the whole family out to eat Peking duck.

When the group, their mouths glistening with oil from the meal, returned home and unlocked the door with their keys, they were all stunned.

What about the things at home?

Where did all the furniture go?

A thief broke in?

Yang Aizhen was the first to act, her face ashen as she ran into Hu Wenwen's room. A quick glance at the northeast corner revealed obvious signs that the floor tiles had been pried open.

Her legs gave way and she collapsed to the ground.

Hu Wenwen followed, and her vision blurred.

All her things are gone!

So many beautiful clothes!!!

Grandma Hu had long wanted to move to the city and live with her son to enjoy a better life. Today, she finally got her wish and was overjoyed, but she was surprised to see this scene as soon as she entered the door.

Thinking about how full of furniture the house used to be, she was so heartbroken that she burst into tears.

"Damn thief! How dare they steal from my old Hu family!"

Yes, if a house can be this empty, what else could it be but a burglary?

"Who? Who? Who did this?" Hu Bingbing's eyes were bloodshot as he rushed into the yard and roared, "Dare to steal my things? I'll stab you in the back!"

The neighbors, hearing the commotion, gathered around and, upon seeing the scene before them, gaped in disbelief.

That thief stole everything so cleanly!

No one suspected Qin Hanshu, because they had clearly seen her leave. All she had was a box, some bedding, a straw mat, a washbasin, and the like.

Hu Dayong's fierce eyes swept over the neighbors, and he gritted his teeth, saying, "Who did this? Step forward!"

"Oh my!" a middle-aged woman wearing glasses exclaimed. "Hu Dayong, what do you mean by this? You're blaming us for your own things going missing?"

Hu Dayong sneered, "There are more than a dozen families living in our front and back yards. What thief could have the ability to stealthily move all my furniture? Unless... it was you who did it!"

"I knew you guys didn't like me, so I robbed your house of everything while no one was home!"

That remark offended everyone.

Everyone started criticizing Hu Dayong.

“You need to have evidence to support your claims. Don’t just make baseless accusations against people without any proof.”

“We are all from impeccable families, and none of us are short of that kind of thing!”

"Besides, you keep referring to your family's property. This large house to the north belongs to the Qin family. What does it have to do with someone like you surnamed Hu?"

"Maybe it's because Han Shu's father couldn't stand how you treated someone else's daughter, and he came back to seek justice for his daughter!"

After these words were spoken, the entire room fell silent.

On the one hand, they felt that these words were feudal superstitions, and that saying them might cause trouble.

On the other hand, I also think that maybe what they said is true, otherwise how could all the things in this house have disappeared?

There was nothing unusual when Han Shu left in the morning. In the following half day, although there wasn't someone in the yard all the time, it was still quite a feat for one or two people to move so much furniture in such a short time.

The more they thought about it, the more they felt that it was Han Shu's father appearing to them, but they stopped saying it aloud and exchanged knowing glances with each other.

The Hu family was still skeptical, but Yang Aizhen was so frightened that her face turned pale.

The secret of that cellar was known only to her and Han Shu's father.

So...it really is him...

Yang Aizhen's eyes rolled back and she fainted.

Grandma Hu ordered Hu Wenwen to quickly pinch Yang Aizhen's philtrum. After a while, Yang Aizhen slowly woke up.

Although the person opened their eyes, they still looked as if their soul had left their body, remaining silent and motionless.

Grandma Hu and Hu Wenwen also began to feel uneasy.

Hu Dayong and Hu Bingbing were both filled with a menacing aura and feared nothing.

"I'm going to report this to the police right now and find this thief!" Hu Dayong said fiercely to his neighbors, "If we find out who did it, I will never let him get away with it!"

Hu Bingbing added, "We can't let him get away with this!"

Seeing her son and grandson's expressions, Old Mrs. Hu calmed down a bit.

When Hu Dayong went to the police station, she began to tidy up the house.

No matter what, life goes on. Luckily, she brought all her belongings from her hometown, otherwise she wouldn't have had a place to stay tonight.

Seeing the junk brought from their hometown, Hu Wenwen said unhappily, "Let's not use those things anymore. Let's buy some new ones before the cooperative closes down."

Old Mrs. Hu glared at her, "You brat, don't you know how to manage money? You buy everything new, do you think your father's money grows on trees?"

Hu Wenwen choked and reluctantly shut her mouth.

If the house hadn't been ransacked and Yang Aizhen hadn't looked so distraught, she wouldn't have dared to ask Old Mrs. Hu for anything.

Hu Wenwen was unhappy, and the thought of losing all her beautiful clothes made her even more unhappy.

Little did she know, the most terrifying thing was yet to come.

The family managed to get by for one night, but the next day Hu Dayong was still thinking about buying some things, at least some basic furniture.

He reached out to Yang Aizhen, "Give me three hundred yuan first, I'll go find Ge Laosan to make a set of furniture."

Yang Aizhen is feeling better today, but she is still in a daze.

It took her a while to realize what she meant, and she gently shook her head, "I don't have any money left."

Han Shu's father's pension was almost gone, and she had originally planned to find an opportunity to withdraw the savings book from the cellar, but...

Yang Aizhen shivered.

She can't think about this; it makes her feel eerie!

Hu Dayong narrowed his eyes.

Although he didn't know exactly what Yang Aizhen was hiding from him, judging from her usual attitude towards money, he was certain that this woman had a secret stash of money.

However, Yang Aizhen didn't seem to be lying at this moment.

Could it be that her private belongings were also stolen?

Hu Dayong looked at Yang Aizhen suspiciously for a while, then let her go for the time being, and instead asked Old Mrs. Hu for money.

Although Mrs. Hu was unwilling, she dared not disobey her son. After giving him the money, she felt a pang of regret and could only glare fiercely at Yang Aizhen.

This piece of junk is so stingy, it really needs to be fixed!

Hu Wenwen paused for a moment, then said to Hu Dayong in a coquettish tone, "Dad, all the other people's clothes are gone, so we need to make two sets of clothes to change into."

Hu Dayong frowned, but before he could speak, a voice rang out from outside.

Is Hu Wenwen home?

The person who came was a middle-aged woman in her forties, wearing a red armband from the neighborhood committee.

The woman's expression was kind, but her words made Hu Wenwen feel as if she had fallen into an ice cellar.

"...Other educated youths have all gone to the vast countryside to make their mark, but Hu Wenwen's awareness needs improvement. Besides, it's not proper for her to just wander around the city like this... She should hurry up and pack her things and get ready to go to the countryside..."
