Chapter 148 A Huge Blunder

Zhou Chunmei always wears the same cheongsam, except in winter when she adds a mink coat, which makes her look very feminine.

She swayed her hips and walked step by step to Gu Shi's side, completely unaware of the gasps from those around her.

Perhaps it's just a habit, after all, Zhou Chunmei is quite attractive.

Gu Shi looked up at her, then at the person gossiping, the meaning in his eyes was self-evident.

Zhou Chunmei frowned and looked over with a hint of displeasure.

"General manager!"

The gossipy girl was too scared to sit there any longer. She hurriedly stood up, feeling a sense of foreboding.

Sure enough, Zhou Chunmei waved to her assistant behind her and said, "Tell her to go to the finance department to settle the wages."

Then, she sat down in front of Gu Shi in a fawning manner.

"Gu Shi, Boss Gu, please don't bother with these lowly employees. They don't even think before they speak!"

The junior employee behind her was weakly crying out that she was innocent and that she didn't do it on purpose.

However, no one was paying attention to her anymore; everyone was focused on the two people in the center of the crowd.

"No need, I'll go back after I've finished handing over my work."

Gu Shi's cold tone dealt another blow to Zhou Chunmei's already wounded heart.

"Stay a few more days! The scenery here is beautiful!"

Ignoring the curiosity of the surrounding employees, Zhou Chunmei insisted on keeping Gu Shi for a while longer.

However, Gu Shi didn't give her any face and waved his hand in refusal.

"Something came up at home, you know that."

These words completely extinguished Zhou Chunmei's beautiful dream.

She watched as Gu Shi got up from the dining table and carried the plate to the sink.

In the cold winter, Gu Shi rolled up his sleeves and put his bowl into the warm water basin, washing it clean little by little.

Gu Shi didn't look back at Zhou Chunmei even once as he walked out of the cafeteria.

The fact that Gu Shi was willing to let Zhou Chunmei continue working despite past grievances was already the greatest favor Gu Shi could show her.

A tear glistened in Zhou Chunmei's eye. She looked up at the ceiling, but ultimately didn't let the tear fall.

Composing herself, Zhou Chunmei turned to look at her employees who were staring wide-eyed.

"What are you looking at! From now on, just do your job properly. If I hear anyone gossiping again, that's what happened to you!"

Pointing to the spot where the dismissed employee had just walked, Zhou Chunmei vented her dissatisfaction.

Once she felt a little better, she swayed her hips and walked out again.

She went to find Feng Chao.

But how did Feng Chao get involved with her?

Gu Shi was also a little curious, since they were clearly two completely unrelated people.

Just as Gu Shi was thinking this, he ran into Feng Chao, who was on his way to the cafeteria for lunch.

The two hadn't met many times, and each time it hadn't ended well; this time was no different.

How did you get in?

Gu Shi had a stern face, and his military overcoat didn't make him look weathered; it was Feng Chao who did.

Even wearing an expensive mink coat couldn't hide his travel-worn appearance.

He looked like he had just fled a famine; apart from his clothes, he was practically unrecognizable.

Feng Chao moved his dry lips but couldn't utter a word.

"Outsiders aren't allowed in the factory. How did you get in?"

Gu Shi asked again, as if he hadn't heard the gossip from before.

"I……"

Feng Chao couldn't speak. In fact, Zhou Chunmei didn't allow him to go out at all, but she didn't restrict him.

Especially during the few days that Gu Shilai came to inspect, he didn't even bother to visit him.

Today, Feng Chao mustered up his courage and tried to leave that beautiful little villa-like house, but he stumbled and staggered his way to the cafeteria.

Then I met Gu Shi.

"Who brought you in?"

"Gu Shi, can we have a proper talk?"

"The factory is a strictly guarded place. If you don't have a special reason, you should leave as soon as possible."

After saying that, Gu Shi left.

It seems like I didn't intentionally make things difficult for him, except for not communicating with him.

Feng Chao watched Gu Shi walk away, his thoughts unreadable.

How could I possibly compare to the spirited and ambitious Gu Shi?

He silently put his hands in his pockets, feeling the warmth of his body to keep himself from getting too cold.

Since the incident at home, Feng Chao has not had a good night's sleep in a long time.

He feared that one day he would wake up to find himself surrounded by police, recounting the crimes he had committed in Pear Blossom Village.

Lost in thought, Zhou Chunmei's voice came from behind me.

"Xiao Feng, what are you looking at? You seem so engrossed!"

Zhou Chunmei's voice wasn't pleasant, but to Feng Chao at that moment, it sounded like heavenly music.

"Sister Chunmei, you're off work!"

Feng Chao forced a smile; he still had a great deal of goodwill towards the woman who had helped him.

"Just tell me what you want to eat. Why did you come out to get food yourself? You're not feeling well, you should stay home and rest more!"

Zhou Chunmei put her arm around Feng Chao and walked happily toward her residence.

It was a villa next to the factory, Zhou Chunmei's private property, and had nothing to do with Gu Shi.

She doesn't try to hide anything; many people have seen them together, which explains the many rumors circulating in the factory.

"Sister Chunmei, I want to ask you for a favor, is that alright?"

Like a man who lives off a woman, Feng Chao tried to minimize his presence, leaning against Zhou Chunmei like a little bird seeking shelter.

"Sure! Xiao Feng, what's up? As long as it's within my power, I'll definitely get it done for you!"

Then Feng Chao whispered a few words to Zhou Chunmei.

Zhou Chunmei's expression wasn't good. "This matter isn't impossible to handle, it's just a bit difficult. How about this? I'll keep an eye on it for you, and I'll let you know as soon as I have any news, okay?"

"Okay, okay, then I'll trouble you, Sister Chunmei. I'm so sorry to have troubled you to take care of me these past few days!"

"It's nothing, we're all family. Xiao Feng, don't be shy. If you have any problems, just tell me and I'll take care of them for you!"

Feng Chao then leaned closer to Zhou Chunmei and nuzzled her neck, a gesture Zhou Chunmei liked.

"Thank you so much, sister! You're so kind!"

Zhou Chunmei smiled, but the smile didn't reach her eyes, and she didn't feel any desire when she looked at Feng Chao's body.

She simply wanted Gu Shi, not a substitute for him.

So the two of them were completely innocent. Most of the rumors in the factory were a mix of truth and falsehood, and many of the rumors were deliberately spread by Zhou Chunmei.

Unexpectedly, none of these words today could move Gu Shi even slightly, not even a little bit.

When the two returned to the villa, the dining table was already full of food.

"Xiao Feng, you shouldn't come to the factory unless you have something important to do. You're not a full-time employee yet, so it's not a good idea for you to go there."
