Chapter 39 Managing Money

After Lin Qingyu finished stewing the meat, she sent another bowl to the neighbor next door.

Carrying a small ceramic basin, she walked happily to the next room and saw Zhu Chunyan cooking, so she went straight into the kitchen.

"Sister Chunyan, I've brought you some food!"

Zhu Chunyan was a little flustered when she saw Lin Qingyu coming over.

She was tending a fire, and her hands were covered in ash. She wiped them on her clothes before taking the item.

"I'm so sorry, you often bring food to my house, I don't know how to thank you enough."

Lin Qingyu waved her hand and said, "It's nothing. We were really grateful to you for taking us in last time!"

After saying only a few words, Zhu Chunyan hesitated. She had recently heard some rumors in the village and didn't know whether she should tell Lin Qingyu.

Lin Qingyu could tell that she had something to say, so she asked her directly.

"Sister Chunyan, is there something you're trying to say?"

After hesitating for a long time, Zhu Chunyan finally decided to speak up. She looked at Lin Qingyu and said.

"I heard some of these things from the villagers, and I thought it would be better to tell you."

Since getting married, Lin Qingyu has not worked, so she has never heard of many things happening in the village.

"Didn't your family have that accident a while ago? And then some people in the village started saying..."

She glanced at Lin Qingyu, and seeing that she didn't seem upset, she continued.

"It's all because of you. The reason you married Gu Shi is that you transferred the bad luck of Gu Shi's family to your family."

Lin Qingyu remained calm and composed, and Zhu Chunyan continued speaking.

"Moreover, some people say that it's because you married Gu Shi that it hasn't rained for more than two months."

She herself found these words outrageous, let alone Lin Qingyu.

So when Lin Qingyu heard this, she wasn't angry; instead, she laughed.

"Sister Chunyan, I understand. You don't need to care about these words. We can't control what other people say. We just need to live our own lives well."

Zhu Chunyan admired Lin Qingyu's attitude, but thankfully she wasn't like those people who would start cursing when they heard something unpleasant to them.

After exchanging a few casual words, Lin Qingyu went back home; she really didn't take these things seriously.

Instead, he found two lunchboxes, packed the meat in them, told Gu Shi, and rode away on his bike.

She went to pick up Zhao Xiaobao and also brought some meat to her mother.

Back at the Lin family home, Li Xiuhua was serving rice to Lin Aiguo.

Now, after finishing her work every day, she still has to cook, while Lin Aiguo just lies in bed all day and doesn't move around at all.

Lin Qingyu thought that it was good that Lin Aiguo was like this, so that he wouldn't have to scold people every day and would even resort to violence when his temper flared up.

She took out one of the lunchboxes and gave it to the group as an extra meal.

Zhao Hongxia's eyes lit up when she saw the meat. Lin Qingyu immediately distributed the meat to the group so that everyone could have some.

Before leaving, Li Xiuhua came out to see Lin Qingyu off.

"It's better at home now. Your father doesn't beat or scold you all the time anymore. It's much quieter at home now."

Although the work was tiring, Li Xiuhua did look much better than before.

"That's good. Mother, don't work too hard. If you don't earn enough work points, I'll figure something out."

Li Xiuhua stopped her, saying, "You absolutely mustn't say these things to Gu Shi. You're married to him now, you can't just say things like that!"

Lin Qingyu couldn't say anything more, so she could only give a perfunctory agreement and then went to pick up Zhao Xiaobao.

She rode her bicycle and soon arrived at the small clinic, where she unexpectedly bumped into Wu Lili, who had come to pick up her medicine.

Ever since she was bitten by a snake, she has felt discomfort in her leg, so she came to get medicine again today.

Lin Qingyu didn't even need to look at her directly; she went straight to Zhao Xiaobao.

"Xiao Bao, it's time to go home!"

Unexpectedly, Wu Lili went and made things difficult for herself by starting to talk to her.

"Hey! Isn't this our brigade's 'young mistress'? You don't have to do any work at home, what are you doing out here!"

The rumors circulating in the village were quite outrageous. Many married women gave Lin Qingyu a new nickname: "Young Mistress."

Lin Qingyu didn't expect Wu Lili to be so tactless and directly retort to her.

"What, you're envious because Teacher Feng can't make you a young mistress?"

"What nonsense are you talking about! Teacher Feng has been suspended from teaching, and you're still saying such things about her!"

Wu Lili was furious and embarrassed. Lin Qingyu didn't expect her to be so low-level, yet she still dared to confront her.

She continued, "Teacher Feng was suspended from teaching, wasn't it because of you? Or is it because you seduced Teacher Feng, which is why he made a mistake?"

Wu Lili was surprised that Lin Qingyu could be so disregardful of their relationship, especially since they had such a good relationship before.

She was almost in tears, and choked out, "Qingyu, why are you like this?"

Lin Qingyu found it amusing that she was allowed to make sarcastic remarks, but others were not allowed to say things she didn't like to hear.

Just then, the school next door let out for the day, and the students all ran out to go home.

Afraid of being seen by other teachers, Wu Lili ran away crying.

She was severely scolded by the teachers there last time, who said she seduced Teacher Feng, causing Teacher Feng to be suspended from teaching and others to take over Feng Chao's classes.

Zhao Xiaobao lingered at Dr. He's place, showing no impatience at all, having learned something new today.

He really likes traditional Chinese medicine.

Lin Qingyu handed the stewed meat from the basket to Doctor He as a way of thanking him for taking in Zhao Xiaobao.

Zhao Xiaobao hardly ever plays with the other children in the village. Lin Qingyu thinks that if it weren't for Dr. He, he probably wouldn't have been able to go to school.

The two rode their bikes home, wobbling along.
