Chapter 48 Infamous

Village chief Feng Weiguo was sitting in the seat of honor. He didn't speak, but just looked at the people in the village. Feng Chao was not there, which made Lin Qingyu feel a little strange.

Once most of the people had arrived, Feng Weiguo began to speak.

"Fellow villagers, please be quiet."

As darkness fell outside the ancestral hall, the lights inside were turned on.

"Regarding the fire at the Lihua Village Supply and Marketing Cooperative that happened this afternoon, I have a few points I would like to make to everyone."

There was almost no sound around, except for Feng Weiguo's hoarse voice continuing to speak.

"According to reliable sources, in the afternoon, someone saw Comrade Wu Lili, a sent-down youth, near the supply and marketing cooperative."

As Feng Weiguo continued speaking, those present roughly guessed what had happened.

It's likely that someone saw Wu Lili at the supply and marketing cooperative, and only saw her, so she is a prime suspect.

Given Wu Lili's previous actions, Feng Weiguo's intention was to send her to the police station.

Lin Qingyu really couldn't understand how things had turned out this way.

It wasn't that she sympathized with Wu Lili, but rather that she wasn't prepared. She had already planned how to get back at her.

As soon as Feng Weiguo finished speaking, various voices erupted from the crowd.

"I never imagined Wu Zhiqing was so terrifying. Why do you think she did that?"

"I don't know either. She looks so gentle and delicate, how could she do that kind of thing?"

"I really don't know what Xiaozhuzi did to offend Wu Zhiqing. I bought something from him just a few days ago!"

...

Amidst the various voices, Lin Qingyu didn't hear anything of value. She didn't discuss it with anyone, but turned her head to glance at them.

Gu Shi was looking at her. Although he didn't show any expression, Lin Qingyu could tell that he was in a good mood.

"What are you so happy about?" Lin Qingyu leaned close to Gu Shi's ear and asked this question.

Is this the right occasion to be happy?

Gu Shi raised an eyebrow and said, "How did you know I was happy?"

"I sense that you're quite happy."

Gu Shi's lips curled up in a smile, clearly showing his happiness, as he whispered in Lin Qingyu's ear.

"I think the expressions on your face when you're thinking are very interesting!"

Gu Shi may appear dull on the surface, but he is actually quite reserved in private, and he unintentionally managed to flirt with Lin Qingyu.

Before Lin Qingyu could react, Zhu Chunyan, who was standing next to her, tugged at her arm.

"Qingyu, what do you think? Didn't you live with Wu Zhiqing for a year before? You should know her quite well, right?"

Several people nearby heard this and immediately shut their mouths, starting to eavesdrop.

However, Lin Qingyu didn't have much to say; she never spoke ill of others behind their backs.

"I'm not very familiar with Wu Zhiqing, so I don't feel comfortable discussing this matter. I think we should listen to the village chief!"

Just then, Feng Weiguo began to speak again.

"Everyone, please be quiet. It's getting late. You should all go home and have dinner. The cadres from the brigade, please stay behind so we can continue our discussion about how to handle Comrade Wu, the educated youth."

The crowd on the outskirts began to retreat; it was already dark, and many people had not yet eaten.

Zhao Xiaobao didn't come with the two of them; he stayed home playing with Gu Xiaojie next door. Gu Hongxing didn't come either; she stayed home looking after the two little kids.

After the meeting was over and everyone in the ancestral hall had left, Feng Weiguo slowly got up.

He was holding the pipe he often had in his mouth in his hand at that moment.

He strolled slowly back to his home.

Someone in the village reported to him that they saw Feng Chao and Wu Lili together near the supply and marketing cooperative, and shortly afterward, a fire broke out there.

Although the person didn't say much, their words revealed some information.

After careful consideration, Feng Weiguo decided to pin the blame on Wu Lili.

They also gave the whistleblower some benefits to keep her mouth shut.

As for Wu Lili, she will be released soon unless there is solid evidence.

As soon as Feng Weiguo stepped into the house, Feng Chao rushed out.

"What right do you have to lock me up! I've had enough! No matter what I do, you control me!"

Feng Weiguo was furious and hit Feng Chao on the head with his pipe.

"What do you think I'm doing this for? You've done all this yourself, and you still have the nerve to argue with me!"

Feng Chao didn't think he had done anything wrong. He reached out to block Feng Weiguo's pipe and glared at him angrily.

Feng Weiguo was furious. He kicked him and then called him to the main room of his house, where he locked the door.

"Tell me yourself, what did you do this afternoon?"

Feng Chao was startled. He hadn't done anything else that afternoon except fool around with Wu Lili at the supply and marketing cooperative.

He remained silent, and Feng Weiguo knew that the matter was definitely true.

"I'll find a way to get you into the city in a few days. And you'd better never see that Wu Lili again!"

Feng Chao was actually a little anxious and said, "I..."

He noticed that Feng Weiguo's expression was off, and changed the subject of his thoughts.

“I promise I will never see Wu again, but please include her in the list of educated youth returning to the city next year.”

Feng Weiguo got angry when he saw him like this. Even if he didn't say anything, Wu Lili would still leave next year.

"You stay here and reflect on your actions. What kind of time is this to be thinking about others!"

Feng Weiguo went out and opened the door, where he saw Feng Chao's mother leaning against it.

He sneered again, "A doting mother spoils her son. Look at the fine son you've raised!"

After saying that, he ignored everything else and went straight out of the house to get some fresh air.

The person who started this whole thing, Wu Lili, didn't actually go anywhere; she stayed at the educated youth center the whole time.

However, Feng Weiguo had someone keep an eye on her.

Wu Lili seemed completely unconcerned, just like usual, moving freely in her room.

It was as if what happened at the supply and marketing cooperative today had nothing to do with her.

A commotion could be heard outside; it was the family of the deceased boy.

Although the village chief's words were not entirely absolute, the whole family regarded Wu Lili as the murderer.

"My son! You died such a terrible death!"

"Wu Lili, you get out here! I'll beat you to death today to avenge my son!"

"You shameless vixen! You seduced Teacher Feng a while ago, and now you've done this heinous thing!"

"Wu Lili, you'll die a horrible death!"

Despite the loud shouting and cursing outside, Wu Lili continued doing her own thing.

However, her eyes were filled with hatred, and her twisted mouth seemed to be spitting on or cursing someone.

Wu Lili's hand was spasming, and suddenly she let out a very shrill laugh.

It seemed like she was in despair, or perhaps a little crazy.

The people outside stopped pushing and shoving, and the shouting also stopped.
