Chapter 59 Preparing for the College Entrance Examination

Lin Qingyu was angry for less than two hours when she was lured away by the delicious aroma wafting from the kitchen.

With her stomach rumbling, she looked out the window with annoyance.

The bedroom window was shorter than the balcony window, so she didn't see Gu Shi.

However, as the aroma of the braised pork grew stronger, my stomach began to protest.

At that very moment, Gu Shi was still stirring the food vigorously, making a lot of noise.

Lin Qingyu finally found an excuse to go out. She flung open the bedroom door and rushed straight to the small balcony kitchen.

"What are you doing making such a loud noise? Can't you keep it down!"

Gu Shi smiled and put down the shovel in his hand, speaking solicitously to Lin Qingyu.

"I can't cook this well, can you cook it for me?"

Lin Qingyu picked up the spatula and stirred the food with a bad temper. Gu Shi apologized so quickly every time, leaving her with nowhere to vent her anger.

When they went to bed that night, Lin Qingyu at least didn't let him sleep on the sofa, and the two of them went back to sharing a blanket.

Gu Shi hugged Lin Qingyu, first sincerely apologized, then offered his compensation, and finally agreed to Lin Qingyu's suggestion.

"I don't object to you opening a restaurant, but you mustn't overwork yourself. Don't get sick because of it, otherwise I won't let you go out anymore."

Lin Qingyu knew when to stop, so she nestled in Gu Shi's arms and whispered against his chest.

"I know. Besides, I'm so bored at home, I just want to find something to do."

Gu Shi didn't continue the topic, and suddenly asked, "Do you want to bring your mother over?"

"Why are you suddenly asking this? I'm worried she won't be used to living here, and there are a lot of things to do at home, so she might not agree."

Gu Shi gently stroked Lin Qingyu's smooth back. There was a palm-sized, red birthmark on her right lower back.

He always unconsciously touches that spot.

“I just opened a new flour mill, so I asked her to go in and help keep an eye on things. That way, she'll have something to do.”

Lin Qingyu didn't reply immediately. She thought for a while before slowly speaking.

"I'll ask her later. It's almost time for the college entrance exam anyway. I'll bring Weidong over and let him stay at our house for a few days. It'll be convenient for him to take the exam here."

"I have time tomorrow, I'll go home with you and take care of all these things."

Their conversation ended there; Lin Qingyu was so sleepy she could barely keep her eyes open.

The next morning, just as Zhao Xiaobao left home to go to school, Lin Qingyu and Gu Shi prepared to set off back to Pear Blossom Village.

This time, Lin Qingyu felt no discomfort, so Gu Shi comforted her.

"Just look at the scenery outside, you'll be home soon, and it's also possible that you don't get carsick at all."

After hearing his words of comfort, Lin Qingyu felt even more distressed, perhaps it was just bad luck on her part.

Upon arriving at Lihua Village, Gu Shi parked his car at the old house, where the supply and marketing cooperative across the street was bustling with activity.

Many people gathered around to watch the car Gu Shi was driving.

"Wow! This car looks impressive. No wonder it's the Gu family's child!"

"That's right, that's right. I think only Gu Shi in our village can drive a car like that."

"What did Xiao Gu do when he came back today?"

Gu Shi ignored everyone else, but he did answer one of the Gu Hongxing family members who were also there.

"Accompany Qingyu home for a visit."

Lin Qingyu greeted the villagers with a smile, took out a cloth bag of fruit candies from the car, and gave some to the children.

There was still quite a bit left, so we shared some with the adults as well.

However, the people soon dispersed; they had come to buy things and now they had to go home to work.

As soon as everyone left, the new girl from the supply and marketing cooperative came out carrying a stool.

The sun was shining brightly today, so she moved a stool to the yard to sunbathe.

The sales clerk glanced at Lin Qingyu, presumably having heard about her situation, and hesitated for a moment before speaking.

"Your name is Lin Qingyu, right?"

Lin Qingyu responded politely when she saw that the other woman had spoken to her.

The sales clerk waved her hand and said, "After you left last time, this group of people started talking really rudely."

Then she described in detail what these people said about her family.

"I don't think Gu Shi is a good person. He'll be looking for vixens in the city in the future. Qingyu is suffering because of him!"

"Oh dear, I think it's obvious that Qingyu is just enjoying a life of luxury with someone else. She's been married to Gu Shi for four years, and how many times have you seen her work in the fields?"

"But who knows? What if I die young following Gu Shi and don't even get to enjoy the good life before I'm gone!"

"It's just a pity for Qingyu's father. He was a perfectly healthy man, but not only did his own wife cut off his leg, but now his daughter doesn't care about him anymore!"

...

The sales clerks spoke politely, but Lin Qingyu could still guess what kind of things these villagers would say.

"Thank you for telling me all this. I have something to do today, let's talk later!"

Lin Qingyu maintained her smile; she genuinely didn't care, having heard all sorts of gossip.

The two carried their belongings back to the Lin family home, where Lin Aiguo was in the yard studying how to weave something from bamboo.

When he saw his daughter and son-in-law return, he simply greeted them and then sat down on his stool to work.

Li Xiuhua came out when she heard the noise. She was cooking over a fire, and her hands were covered in ash.

"Why are you back? Come in and sit down. I'm cooking. Just sit here for a bit, and we'll be eating soon."

Li Xiuhua warmly welcomed the two, while Lin Weidong was sitting inside studying.

"Sister, brother-in-law is back."

He put down his book, stood up to greet everyone, and looked very confident, as if he was determined to succeed in this college entrance examination.

Lin Qingyu chatted with him for a while, and casually mentioned a few questions about the college entrance examination.

However, Lin Weidong was a true academic genius; no matter how Lin Qingyu tested him, he could always answer the questions.

It's clear that Lin Weidong has made thorough preparations.

Have you decided which university you want to apply to?

Lin Qingyu sat on a stool and rubbed her hands together. Although there was a stove burning in the house, it wasn't very warm.

Lin Weidong smiled a little embarrassedly, "Sister, please don't laugh at me. I want to go to a university that studies law and politics!"

Gu Shi was also present, and upon hearing this, he gave him a deep look.

It's not that I think he won't pass the exam, it's just that I think this kid is alright, he has ambition.

"That's great! As long as you have a goal, I believe you can definitely pass the exam."

"I hope so! I'll go see if Mom has cooked dinner yet. It's cold outside, so you shouldn't come out, sister."

As Lin Weidong stepped out of the house and pushed open the door, a cool breeze carrying a few specks of dust blew into Lin Qingyu's eyes.

She rubbed her hands, feeling a little uncomfortable. Her younger brother from her previous life had originally had a happy ending.

Lin Qingyu still doesn't know whether Lin Weidong's death in his previous life is related to the death of the sales clerk at the supply and marketing cooperative in this life.

If the saleswoman's death was due to her rebirth, then why is Lin Weidong safe and sound in this life?
