Gu Shi strode over, and the crowd automatically dispersed wherever he went.
Almost no one in Pear Blossom Village would get close to him, not even to his side.
Everyone was afraid of catching his bad luck.
"Zhao Xiaobao, are you crying again?"
As soon as Gu Shi saw Zhao Xiaobao, he put on a cold face and, without asking why, began to lecture him.
Zhao Xiaobao originally wanted to continue crying, but when she saw Gu Shi's serious face, she immediately stopped.
He hid behind Lin Qingyu, feeling wronged, and tugged hard at the hem of her short-sleeved shirt.
"Uncle, I really didn't mean to, she just kept trying to take my things!"
As he spoke, he pointed at Wu Lili with his short little arm. When he saw Wu Lili glaring at him, he shrank back and hid behind Lin Qingyu.
Gu Shi's gaze fell on the lunchbox in Aunt Pang's hand, and then he looked at Wu Lili.
He didn't say anything, but simply apologized to Lin Qingyu.
"I'm sorry, I originally asked Xiaobao to give this to you. I'll give you another one another day!"
Lin Qingyu was somewhat flattered and said, "It's alright, it's alright. You've worked so hard just catching these things!"
She never really understood why Gu Shi treated her differently.
Gu Shi ignored her words and directly called out to Zhao Xiaobao, "Let's go home!"
Zhao Xiaobao didn't want to leave, but he dared not stay where he was, so he could only timidly walk out from behind Lin Qingyu.
"Uncle, I'm sorry, please don't scold me anymore!"
Although he was young, he already knew to apologize first when he did something wrong, which made Gu Shi's eyebrows twitch.
Seeing that Gu Shi was about to lose his temper, Zhao Xiaobao suddenly ran out from behind Lin Qingyu, running non-stop while still apologizing.
"Uncle, I know I was wrong. I'm going home now, I'm starving!"
The plump aunt couldn't help but burst out laughing.
The tense atmosphere eased after Zhao Xiaobao stirred things up.
Gu Shi felt embarrassed, so he didn't even take the lunchbox, and left after saying a word to Lin Qingyu.
While everyone's attention was drawn to Zhao Xiaobao, Wu Lili quietly retreated to the outside of the crowd.
Unexpectedly, Li Xiuhua caught him red-handed.
Li Xiuhua hadn't been watching at all; she went inside to cook. Even after all this time, Lin Qingyu still hadn't returned home.
She came out of the house and saw Wu Lili backing away.
"Wu Zhiqing, what are you all talking about? Why did you leave?"
Li Xiuhua's words drew everyone's attention back to her.
"Wu Zhiqing, aren't you going to explain yourself?"
Aunt Pang was the first to react. She took the lunchbox and spoke to Wu Lili.
She saw that Gu Shi had already left, so she figured he probably didn't want the stainless steel lunchbox anymore.
Perfect timing, her family is short one person, so bringing food to her husband would be just right.
Wu Lili's face turned red. How could she know that the little brat was from Gu Shi's family?
The rabbit meat inside was actually meant for Lin Qingyu. She was just craving meat and hadn't had any in a long time, so she accidentally made a mistake.
"I...I..."
"I never expected you, Wu Zhiqing, to be this kind of person! Not only did you steal things from children, but you even tried to steal food meant for patients."
"Shameless!"
The crowd began to chatter amongst themselves.
Wu Lili used to be very famous in Lihua Village, and even in Changnan Commune.
Because she was always willing to help others and volunteered to do the work, she didn't expect that at the end of the year, she wouldn't have enough work points and would have to pay extra.
From that time on, her reputation was not very good.
Although she still pretended to be very kind, everyone wasn't stupid.
Seeing her true colors now, everyone felt even more hateful towards her.
The aunties were saying yesterday that Lin Qingyu was going too far by kicking her out.
Looking at it today, doesn't she deserve it?
"You...you've gone too far!"
Wu Lili's face gradually turned from flushed to pale.
She had only been in the countryside for a year, and it was almost impossible for her to return to the city. Her family didn't help her, so returning to the city seemed a distant prospect.
She has to stay in Lihua Village. Now, Wu Lili can only run back to the educated youth settlement in tears.
When Aunt Pang and the others saw Wu Lili crying with tears streaming down her face, they felt a little embarrassed.
They are all elderly, and this seems a bit like bullying them.
"Wu, the educated youth, must have been quite shy, after all, it wasn't something to be proud of!"
Seeing that Wu Lili had run far away, Lin Qingyu suddenly said this.
Aunt Pang slapped her thigh and said, "I think Wu Zhiqing really did something wrong. Qingyu is much more generous; she didn't even complain about such a big bowl of meat!"
"Yeah yeah!"
"Qingyu, you should go home and eat. Take good care of yourself. I remember you lost a lot of blood back then!"
"I'm fine. Everyone should go home now, it'll be time to get back to work soon!"
After Lin Qingyu finished speaking, she shouldered her hoe, rolled up her trouser leg with one hand, revealing her fair calves, and walked into her house.
It was so hot that the smell of sweat at the entrance of Lin Qingyu's house only dissipated after everyone had left.
Li Xiuhua had a pot of porridge simmering on her stove, while on the other side she was stir-frying vegetables from her private plot next to the yard.
Lin Qingyu was craving something different; she couldn't stand eating so much vegetarian food every day.
"Mother! I'm going to the back mountain. I remember there's a place with lots of wild vegetables. I'll be right back!"
Without waiting for Li Xiuhua's response, Lin Qingyu ran out.
Her home is quite close to the back of the mountain; it takes less than ten minutes to go there and back.
Lin Qingyu remembered that in her space, the place where she bought vegetables also sold wild vegetables.
