Chapter 123 Highwaymen

The car is traveling to Wenzhou, 300 kilometers away.

After passing through a flat main street, we entered a bumpy national highway half an hour later.

Looking at the chattering crowd around him, Ye Beiping, having eaten and drunk his fill, chose to lean back in his chair with his bundle in his arms and close his eyes to rest.

Even outside of Hangzhou city, it still takes several hours to get to Wenzhou.

Three hundred kilometers is enough for a long-distance bus to travel for four or five hours nowadays, let alone on a national highway like this, who knows what might happen on the road.

Sitting next to Ye Beiping was a woman who was dressed very elegantly.

She glanced at Ye Beiping beside her, her brows furrowed slightly, and she wrinkled her nose, as if she thought the person next to her was very dirty.

However, she couldn't directly express her dislike for civic education, so she could only endure the discomfort and turn her head to look elsewhere.

More than four hours later.

The car was bumping along as it entered Wenzhou when it encountered a group of people causing a traffic jam, which startled the driver so much that he had to slam on the brakes.

The driver's lips trembled as he said, "It's over, it's over, we've run into highway robbers."

The passengers who had regained their balance were about to curse the driver when their words were choked back, and fear appeared on their faces.

In this day and age, if you encounter a robber, calling the police is really useless.

Because these people were almost all from nearby villages, and due to their geographical location, some were so poor that they only had underwear left.

Fortunately, fate did not completely destroy them; the national highway was built near their village.

Only then did some bolder villagers start robbing people.

When the police go to the village to investigate, the villagers are very united and will never reveal who is robbing the road.

Even if the investigation reaches the authorities, these villagers are still willing to take out weapons and confront the officials head-on. But that's not the scariest thing. The scariest thing is that they completely disregard the officials. To them, anyone who can feed them is a savior.

Therefore, these highway robbers usually take some food back to distribute and keep people calm.

Ye Beiping was snoring and enjoying a sweet dream. In his dream, he imagined himself lying flat on a bed full of money every day, and then doing unspeakable things with Su Xinyi on the bed.

Just as he felt something in his hand, the car braked suddenly, waking him up.

If he hadn't grabbed something, Ye Beiping would probably have fallen off his seat by now.

"Holy shit."

Ye Beiping habitually uttered a curse word, while his other hand rubbed his forehead, which had just bumped into the chair.

The woman next to him screamed, "Let go, you pervert!"

Um?

Upon hearing those two words, everyone in the carriage turned to look in their direction.

They discovered that Ye Beiping was holding the woman's hand.

Ye Beiping then realized what had happened, and embarrassedly let go of her hand, giving an awkward smile: "Um, I'm sorry, sister, I just fell asleep..."

Before he could explain, the woman rolled her eyes at him and quickly stood up.

Bang!

Bang!

The passengers were still chattering when the front window of the bus was smashed, and the windows on the doors suffered the same fate.

Two loud bangs finally elicited a reaction from the people inside the carriage.

"Oh no, oh no, we've run into robbers."

"Robbery? What era are we living in? People still rob each other?"

"You didn't know? This kind of thing happens frequently, and it always happens on national highways."

...

The trembling whispers of the group finally made Ye Beiping realize what had happened.

Robbery?

Ye Beiping curled his lips slightly.

Although he hadn't experienced it himself, there were far too many news stories like this.

Not to mention the late 1970s, such things were still common in the 1990s.

But when he noticed the woman who had stood up, he saw that she was trembling uncontrollably and staring in terror at the front of the car.

Something is clearly wrong.

Ye Beiping looked up and saw that the robbers had already boarded the bus; there was no time to ask questions. He stood up, pulled the woman to a window seat, and then sat down in the aisle himself, whispering, "Sister, stay seated."

"Oh." The woman nodded repeatedly, looking at Ye Beiping's profile with some surprise, and seemed a little dazed.

It has to be said that Ye Beiping is handsome, especially his profile, which looks like that of a pretty boy.

If he hadn't been born in this era, he would definitely have a place in those business establishments.

Who knows, some rich woman might take a liking to him and say, "Little brother, come with me, I'll give you 100,000 every month... no, no, 200,000, plus a house and a sports car."

Just as the woman was lost in her fantasies, a robber who seemed to be the leader walked up to Ye Beiping and peered at him.

The woman's eyes lit up.

Ye Beiping also noticed the robber's strange expression and said with a smile, "Brother, are you from a nearby village?"

The robbers, interrupted, reluctantly looked away from the woman and turned to Ye Beiping with somewhat unfriendly expressions.

"none of your business."

He spoke with a thick local accent, which Ye Beiping might not have been able to understand if he hadn't traveled all over the country.

After being scolded, Ye Beiping pursed his lips and took out five yuan from his pocket, saying, "Brother, look, I only have five yuan on me. You're just trying to get food, so why don't you take the money and let us go?"

"I still need to go to Wencheng for medical treatment."

Cough cough cough!

When he mentioned going to the doctor, he even coughed twice to show that his condition was very serious.
