The next day.
Just as the first light of dawn appeared, Ye Beiping was dragged out of bed by Tao Qiuyan.
"Get up quickly, I'll make breakfast, and then you can take me to the bus station in town."
Ye Beiping was speechless.
Just as he was about to pull back the covers, a chill swept over him, instantly waking him up. He immediately pulled the covers back over himself.
I picked up the pants and other clothes next to me and stuffed them into the blankets, hoping to warm myself up before wearing them.
I looked up at the window and saw a gray, gloomy sky.
What time is it?
Does it mean that it gets light later when it snows?
After thinking about it, it seems unlikely. How can it be dark when it snows?
A few minutes later.
Ye Beiping slowly and painstakingly overcame the cold and put on his clothes.
Stepping out of the room, I glanced at the time and almost felt dizzy.
Walking into the kitchen, he saw Tao Qiuyan starting a fire to make breakfast and said somewhat speechlessly, "Mom, it's only a little past five o'clock, is it really necessary to be up so early?"
"The train won't arrive until at least seven o'clock, haha!"
After he finished speaking, he yawned, clearly very sleepy.
Tao Qiuyan stuffed a few pieces of firewood into the stove before getting up and saying, "Didn't you tell me to get up earlier? Besides, it'll be past six o'clock by the time we make and eat breakfast. It won't take us long to go to town."
puff!
Ye Beiping almost spat out a mouthful of blood.
What a joke! It does take half an hour to get from the village to the town by donkey cart, but now they have cars.
Forget it, I'd better not argue.
Ye Beiping went straight to the courtyard to wash up.
This is a great thing in the countryside; you can fill a basin with water and wash your face directly in the yard, or even rinse your hair first thing in the morning if that's not enough.
Washing your hair in the dead of winter is an absolutely unpleasant experience.
If he could, Ye Beiping would like to wash his hair right now to clear his head. He really wishes he were still sleeping soundly in bed.
If Tao Qiuyan hadn't woken her up, she probably would have slept until noon.
After washing up, Ye Beiping glanced at the breakfast and saw that it wasn't ready yet, so he ran to the village entrance to start the car.
Let the car warm up first, and then we can set off immediately. It'll only take about an hour, so there shouldn't be any problems.
A dozen minutes later.
Ye Beiping returned home and saw that breakfast was already prepared.
"Where did you go?" Tao Qiuyan asked.
"Oh, didn't you say we should leave early? So I went to warm up the car. It's frozen solid in the middle of winter, so it took a while."
Tao Qiuyan had heard Ye Beiping mention this issue before, so she didn't say anything.
If Tao Qiuyan had known that gasoline was so expensive and that she would need to warm up the car for more than ten minutes every day, she would never have chosen to have Ye Beiping deliver it.
There are donkey carts and similar vehicles available every day to get to town; you don't necessarily need a car.
It was just getting light outside.
Ye Beiping had also finished his dumpling soup. After finishing a big bowl of hot dumpling soup, he felt as if he had come back to life.
I'm fully awake now.
Seeing Tao Qiuyan take out large and small bags of things from the house, Ye Beiping was both amused and exasperated.
"Mom, isn't this unnecessary? You have so much stuff, are you moving?"
"What do you know?"
Tao Qiuyan glared at her son with annoyance: "You don't know the cost of firewood and rice until you're in charge of the household. These things will go bad if they keep sitting at home. Don't think I don't know what you boys are thinking. You just want to trick me into going to Hangzhou, don't you?"
"If I go, I definitely won't be back for a while. It would be such a waste if these things went bad at home."
“This…” Ye Beiping scratched his head.
The joy I felt last night after successfully fooling my mother has completely vanished, replaced by embarrassment.
I didn't expect that my mother had already figured it out.
To ease the awkwardness, Ye Beiping reached out to help Tao Qiuyan with her things.
These are all New Year's goods I bought during the Spring Festival, and we haven't finished eating them yet, mainly because we haven't had many guests coming to visit us for the New Year.
The car started, startling many villagers who had already woken up and came out to see what was happening.
Tao Qiuyan looked out the car window at Pingba Village, which was getting smaller and smaller, and sighed softly: "Beiping, just say what's on your mind next time, don't beat around the bush. You're worried about your second uncle, aren't you? Actually, it's okay. We've said those things before, and our family is fine now."
"However, you guys are right about one thing: no matter how much I don't want to go to Hangzhou, I still have to go for Xinyi and Xiaoxin's sake. I'll come back after Xinyi gives birth and finishes her postpartum confinement."
Based on the timeline, it will take at most six months.
Su Xinyi got pregnant last July. If we calculate it all out, she will definitely give birth in May, finish her postpartum confinement in June, and be able to come back in July at the latest.
Then we'll know whether Ye Xiaoxin's restaurant can stay open or not. If it can't, we'll take it all back to Pingba Village and farm together.
Her idea was wonderful, but reality was cruel.
Ye Beiping would absolutely not allow such a thing to happen.
"Mom..." Ye Beiping's eyes suddenly reddened as he said, "Once the new house is built, we'll stay in Hangzhou for another two years and then come back. Maybe it won't even take two years, one year will be enough."
"What, you're not doing business anymore?" Tao Qiuyan asked, somewhat surprised.
Ye Beiping shook his head: "I've made enough money. It doesn't matter whether I do business or not. I won't be needed anymore. Let Fatty and the others handle it. Isn't it good enough for me to stay home and collect money every day?"
"It's best if you earn points, but if you don't, then don't bother, hehe."
He laughed when he talked about it.
Upon hearing this, Tao Qiuyan nodded slightly: "That's fine. It's better to make enough money and quit while living in fear every day."
