After decades of ups and downs, this factory has now developed into a major production base that can produce up to 3,852 cubic meters of gas per day, which was enough to meet the needs of most people in Hong Kong Island at that time.
However, as times changed and the population continued to grow, demand for gas gradually outstripped supply.
In order to resolve this contradiction, the company considered expanding the original factory building, but given its prime location, the high price of land, and the increasingly serious environmental pollution caused by coal burning, it finally decided to invest in the construction of a new gas plant in Siu Sai Wan, Hong Kong Island.
This measure effectively alleviated the pressure on gas supply and gradually met the daily life needs of Hong Kong residents.
In addition, China Gas Company also has two gas plants in the Wong Tai Sin area of Kowloon Peninsula and in Tai Po and Pier Point respectively. They jointly undertake the responsibility of providing gas services to Kowloon Peninsula, New Territories, Tai Po and other areas.
In addition to the gas business, the company also has two water companies. Although they are small in scale, they provide high-quality tap water services to the residents in the Central area of Hong Kong Island.
Currently, the company has a total of 1,532 employees and its account cash reserves are HK$332 million.
The monthly gas fees collected from Hong Kong Island residents remain stable at around HK$20 million, while the fees collected from Kowloon Peninsula, Oura and other areas are approximately HK$10 million. The annual net profit is just around HK$100 million.
It is worth noting that this does not fully cover the potential markets in Kowloon, Dapu and other areas. If the gas pipelines can be laid in place, the company's monthly revenue is expected to double.
