"Sir! I'm very interested, aren't you?" the old white driver said with a smile.
“Legend has it that a simply dressed elderly couple arrived at Harvard University hoping to meet with the president.
However, the principal's secretary thought they were just an ordinary country couple and naturally did not agree to the meeting.
The old man whispered to his secretary, "We would like to see the principal."
The secretary politely declined, "The principal is very busy today, so..."
The lady responded gently: "It's okay, we can wait."
The old couple waited for several hours, and the secretary finally couldn't bear it anymore and reported it to the principal.
Although the principal was reluctant, he still met with the elderly couple.
The lady began to narrate:
“Our son went to Harvard and loved it.
But unfortunately, he died in a car accident last year.
My husband and I hope to leave some kind of memorial for him at the school.”
Normally, people might express sympathy for the couple's experience, but the principal was not moved. Instead, he found it a little funny.
“We can’t possibly build a memorial for every student who has attended Harvard and has since passed away,” he explained.
“Otherwise, Harvard would cease to be a university and become a cemetery.”
After hearing this, the lady shook her head slightly and said: "We don't want to build a monument, but we plan to donate a building to Harvard."
The principal thought to himself, are these couple here to make fun of us?
So he said bluntly: "You may not know that it costs $7 million to build a building."
The lady was silent for a moment, then turned to her husband and whispered:
“Since seven million is enough, why don’t we build a university in memory of our son?”
And so, Stanford University was born."
After Mo Zhexuan finished telling this story, everyone in the car burst into laughter.
As the competition between Harvard and Stanford becomes fierce, the two universities naturally dislike each other, and mutual criticism is commonplace.
