The two white steamed buns were snow-white, fluffy, and still steaming.
Su Yuzhen's crying stopped abruptly. She stared wide-eyed at the plate of braised pork and unconsciously swallowed.
These days, you might not even get to eat a meal like this during the Lunar New Year.
"father!"
She cried out in grievance.
"I want some too!"
Su Jianguo picked up a piece of braised pork with alternating layers of fat and lean meat, deliberately shook off the oil, and then put it into Wang Xiulan's bowl.
"That depends on when you finish washing. What if there's no food left by then?"
Su Jianguo mocked.
Su Yuzhen's face flushed bright red.
She suddenly stood up, kicking over the laundry tub and splashing dirty water all over the floor.
"I won't wash! I just won't wash!"
She screamed hysterically.
"You're all so biased! Why can our eldest sister eat meat without doing any work?!"
Su Jianguo glanced calmly at his youngest daughter, who was trembling with anger.
Then he spoke to his eldest daughter.
"Yufen, go and get the feather duster."
These words were like a bucket of cold water poured over Su Yuzhen's head.
She watched in horror as her eldest sister actually got up to get the feather duster; the horrific beating her second brother had suffered yesterday was still fresh in her mind.
"I... I'll wash it, okay?"
Su Yuzhen's voice suddenly weakened, tears were still flowing, but she had lost the momentum she had just had.
Su Jianguo said seriously.
"Stand the basin upright, pick up the dirty clothes, and wash them properly. You can only eat after they've been washed and passed inspection."
Su Yuzhen, sobbing, straightened the laundry tub and picked up the scattered clothes.
She squatted in front of the basin, clumsily rubbing the clothes, occasionally stealing a glance at the dining table.
The aroma of braised pork tormented her, and her stomach rumbled loudly.
Wang Xiulan felt sorry for him and wanted to say something, but her husband stopped her with a look.
Su Jianguo picked up another piece of meat and put it in her bowl.
"Eat your food, ignore her."
Su Yufen kept her head down as she ate her rice, but she was secretly surprised.
My father used to dote on my little sister the most, giving her whatever she wanted. Why does he seem like a completely different person today?
It took Su Yuzhen a lot of effort to finish washing all the clothes.
Looking back, the two figures were no longer at the dinner table.
Su Yufen and Wang Xiulan were instructed by Su Jianguo to tidy up the house.
The plate of braised pork on the table is now empty.
Originally, Wang Xiulan and Su Yufen had specially reserved a few pieces of braised pork.
Su Jianguo ate them all himself.
Seeing that his youngest daughter had finished washing, Su Jianguo pointed to the oil at the bottom of the plate and said coldly.
"You were dawdling over doing laundry, and now look what's happened—everything's gone. Go get a cornbread and dip it in some soup."
Su Yuzhen completely broke down and slammed the wooden basin in her hand to the ground.
She cried and ran straight back to her room.
Hearing the crying, Wang Xiulan hurriedly came out of the house. Watching her youngest daughter's figure disappear behind the door, and then looking at the last trace of oil on the plate, her lips trembled as she spoke.
"Honey, this...this is too much..."
"Too much what?"
Su Jianguo dipped the last piece of steamed bun in the oil droplets at the bottom of the plate and slowly put it into his mouth.
"A sixteen-year-old girl, throwing a tantrum over washing a few clothes. It's all your fault for spoiling her!"
Wang Xiulan did not answer, her eyes kept glancing towards the west wing.
Su Yufen came out and quietly cleared away the dishes.
Wang Xiulan thought for a moment, and still said with some concern.
