"Jianjun, Guixiang, what brings you here?"
Su Jianguo leaned his bicycle to the side and wiped the sweat from his forehead.
Su Jianjun picked up the conversation.
"The wild boars are causing quite a ruckus, and I was worried about Guixiang coming alone, so I thought I'd check on things."
Wu Ermaitai stood to the side, smiling憨厚ly.
"Brother Jianjun and his wife take such good care of me; they bring me food every day."
Su Jianguo looked at Wang Guixiang with gratitude.
"Sister-in-law, you've really worked hard."
Wang Guixiang waved her hand, a hearty smile on her face.
"We're family, no need for formalities. Besides, Ermaitai's all alone here, we can't let him go hungry, can we?"
She deftly took out several rough porcelain bowls from the basket, which contained steaming millet porridge, stir-fried cabbage, and a few cornbread cakes.
"Brother, you should eat it while it's hot too."
Su Jianguo was indeed hungry, so he took the bowl and chopsticks and squatted down to eat heartily.
Su Jianjun also picked up a bowl, eating and asking questions at the same time.
"Brother, have you finalized a plan with Hunter Zhao yet?"
Su Jianguo swallowed a bite of bread and briefly explained the situation discussed.
Su Jianjun frowned slightly after hearing this.
"Simply chasing them away won't scare the wild boars away. Brother, how about I arrange for a few strong men to keep watch here tonight?"
Su Jianguo thought about it and agreed.
That night, everyone went out to look for wild boars.
Let's hope that wild boars don't steal our home.
Wu Er complained that guarding the greenhouse was really dangerous.
"You're right. We should go chase the wild boars away tonight. If they run this way, it'll be too dangerous for both of us."
As they were talking, Su Jianjun's gaze fell on the cloth bag that Su Jianguo had brought.
A section of the gun barrel was visible through the cloth bag.
"Huh? Big brother, what's this...?"
Su Jianjun's eyes lit up, and he put down his chopsticks and went over to them.
Su Jianguo smiled and untied the cloth bag.
"Two guns my father gave me."
"A double-barreled shotgun!"
Su Jianjun exclaimed in surprise, carefully picking up the hunting rifle as if it were some rare treasure.
His fingers lightly traced the barrel of the gun, his eyes gleaming with excitement.
"Goodness, the old man is even willing to take out this treasure?"
Su Jianjun examined the hunting rifle with great interest, skillfully inspecting the barrel.
"When I was a child, they wouldn't even let me touch it."
Wang Guixiang pouted to herself.
"Look at you, so pathetic, getting this excited over a gun."
"What do you know!"
Su Jianjun didn't even look up, continuing to fiddle with his hunting rifle.
"This is a proper double-barreled shotgun. With this, you can take down not only wild boars, but even bears with a single shot. Look at the barrel, the trigger..."
Su Jianguo couldn't help but laugh as he watched his younger brother's infatuated expression.
"Jianjun, since you like it so much, you can use this gun tonight."
"real?"
Su Jianjun suddenly looked up, his eyes filled with surprise.
"certainly."
Su Jianguo nodded.
"You're the production team leader and a veteran; you're much more skilled with a gun than I am."
Su Jianjun blushed with excitement, like a child who had received a beloved toy.
"Don't worry, brother. With this treasure in hand, I'm not afraid of any number of wild boars!"
He skillfully loaded and unloaded the ammunition, his movements fluid and seamless, clearly demonstrating the extensive training he received in the military.
Wang Guixiang watched from the side and shook her head.
"Look at you, so smug. Be careful, don't accidentally discharge it."
"Don't worry, honey, I'm a sharpshooter!"
Su Jianjun patted his chest proudly.
"Back in the army, I was the best in the whole company at target practice!"
Seeing his younger brother's confident demeanor, Su Jianguo felt much more at ease.
He turned to Wang Guixiang.
"Sister-in-law, please tell our parents when you get home tonight that Jianjun and I might be busy until very late."
Wang Guixiang nodded.
"Be careful. Oh, and I also brought some dry food and water, so you can have something to eat if you get hungry tonight."
She took another cloth bag from the basket, which contained several cornbreads and a jug of water.
"Gui Xiang is so thoughtful."
Su Jianguo said sincerely.
The sky was getting dark.
After the four of them quickly packed up, Su Jianguo led Su Jianjun and his wife to the village office.
At this moment, a large number of people had gathered at the village office, and the noisy voices could be heard from afar.
"There are quite a lot of people."
Su Jianjun carried a double-barreled shotgun and walked briskly.
Wang Guixiang carried a basket of dry food and followed closely behind the two.
"Has all the able-bodied young men in the village come? Our village hasn't been this lively in a long time."
The open space in front of the village office was crowded with people, at least a hundred or so.
The men stood in groups of three or five, some carrying hoes, some carrying shovels, and a few young men even holding homemade spears.
The women stood around the edge, whispering amongst themselves.
"Make way, make way!"
Su Jianjun pushed through the crowd to make way for his brother.
In the center of the crowd, the old Party Secretary was standing on a square table, holding a registration book in his hand.
Zhao the hunter stood beside him.
"The founding of the nation is here!"
Someone shouted, and the crowd automatically parted to make way.
The old Party Secretary looked up and saw the Su brothers, his eyes lighting up.
"Perfect timing! We were just worried about not having enough people to distribute the work!"
Su Jianguo walked to the table and showed the Type 56 semi-automatic rifle from the cloth bag.
A gasp of amazement immediately rose from the crowd.
Several young men crowded around to touch it, but the old Party Secretary stopped them with a cough.
"Don't move! Guns aren't toys!"
