Su Jianguo took the bullets and distributed them to the team members.
Two militiamen skillfully inspected the firearms.
The three teams stood ready to depart in front of the village office.
The old Party Secretary stood on the steps, giving a final pep talk.
"Remember the signal: fire a shot if you spot a wild boar, and other teams will provide immediate support! Safety first!"
"Set off!"
With the old Party Secretary's order, the three teams set off in different directions.
Su Jianguo led the way, with ten people lined up in a row, heading north along the mountain road.
The moonlight was obscured by clouds, with only a few scattered stars providing a faint glow.
Su Jianguo had his men light two torches.
Illuminated by the firelight, the column began to advance rapidly.
"Shh-"
Su Jianguo suddenly stopped and raised his fist to signal the team to halt.
Everyone held their breath.
A rustling sound came from afar, as if something was moving through the bushes.
"Is it a wild boar?"
A young villager asked nervously.
Su Jianguo looked closely and found it was a stray cat.
He shook his head, signaling everyone to continue.
After walking for about half an hour, the group arrived near the greenhouse.
"Let's go check out the greenhouse first."
Su Jianguo quickened his pace.
As the team approached the greenhouse, Su Jianguo's heart jumped into his throat.
By the moonlight, he saw that the fence surrounding the greenhouse was intact.
However, there were obvious hoof prints on the ground, more numerous and fresher than those seen in the afternoon.
"They came."
Su Jianguo squatted down and ran his fingers over the marks on the soil.
"And there was more than one."
Suddenly, a sharp sound of an iron basin being struck came from the direction of the greenhouse.
"That's disgusting!"
A villager exclaimed.
Su Jianguo immediately picked up his gun.
"quick!"
Ten people rushed towards the greenhouse.
In front of the vegetable greenhouse.
Wu Ermai gripped a wooden stick more than two meters long tightly in both hands, his face full of vigilance.
About ten meters in front of him, a large sow was pawing the ground with her front hooves, followed by more than a dozen piglets.
"Get...get out of here!"
Wu Er's voice trembled as he complained, but he did not back down an inch.
Suddenly, the sow raised her head and let out a piercing scream. Wu Er was so frightened that he almost dropped the wooden stick.
Just then, a series of chaotic footsteps and shouts came from afar.
"You're so dirty! Hang in there!"
Su Jianguo's voice pierced through the night.
Startled by the sudden commotion, the wild boar's blood-red eyes widened even more.
With a powerful kick of its hind legs, its 300-pound body hurtled toward Wu Ermaitai like a cannonball.
A normal person would be in danger if confronted by a wild boar, especially a large, adult wild boar.
My first thought was definitely to run.
However, Wu Ermaitai was different; he wasn't a normal person. This guy actually brandished the stick in his hand and charged towards the wild boar.
"ah--"
Wu Ermaitai, emboldened by some unknown source, actually swung his wooden stick and charged forward.
He had only one thought in his mind.
We must not let wild boars ruin Brother Jianguo's hard work.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
At a critical moment.
Three gunshots rang out almost simultaneously.
Su Jianguo knelt on the ground, his Type 56 semi-automatic rifle resting steadily on his shoulder.
The first shot hit the boar's foreleg, the second hit its abdomen, and the third shot precisely pierced the boar's right eye.
The wild boar let out a shrill howl, its momentum undiminished, but it collapsed to the ground half a meter away from Wu Ermaitai, the dust it kicked up covering Wu Ermaitai's face.
"I'll beat you to death! I'll beat you to death!"
Wu Ermaitai was still immersed in the battle, raining down wooden sticks on the wild boar carcass until Su Jianguo grabbed him and hugged him.
"Alright, alright, it's dead!"
Su Jianguo snatched the wooden stick away and then noticed that Wu Er was trembling all over and his forehead was covered in cold sweat.
The wild boars were terrified by the gunshot and scattered in all directions. Two agile militiamen immediately gave chase.
"Following the piglets will surely lead us to the main group!"
One of them was running and shouting.
"Quickly, bleed them out!"
In the line, Old Li, the village's pig butcher, squeezed to the front and deftly drew his pig-slaughtering knife from his waist.
"If we delay any longer, the meat will rot!"
In this weather, if we don't process the wild boar we killed quickly, the meat won't even be eaten by dogs, let alone sold.
Old Li was skilled; with one swift stroke, he cut open the wild boar's throat, and dark red blood gushed out.
"Brother Jianguo, I...I held on..."
Wu Er sat slumped on the ground, his face flushed an unnatural red.
Su Jianguo patted him on the shoulder.
"Well done!"
He turned and shouted to the others.
"A few people, please help turn the pig over!"
Seven or eight strong laborers immediately stepped forward and worked together to turn the wild boar, which weighed more than 300 pounds, over over.
Old Li cut along the midline of the abdomen and skillfully removed the internal organs.
"The liver is still warm, and the intestines haven't ruptured—good meat!"
He held up the pig liver to examine it in the moonlight.
It was half an hour later when the wild boar was finally dealt with.
"Make way! Make way!"
Su Jianjun's voice came from outside the crowd.
He and Hunter Zhao each arrived with their respective teams.
Upon hearing the gunshots, both teams rushed towards the scene, but the distance was too great, and they only arrived now.
Upon seeing the wild boar carcass on the ground, Su Jianjun excitedly brandished his double-barreled shotgun.
"Brother, you guys got it?"
"Jianguo's marksmanship is quite good."
