Standing in front of the deputy director's office, Su Mingde took a deep breath, straightened his suit collar, and then gently knocked three times.
There was no response.
He knocked three more times, this time with a little more force.
Who is it?
An impatient voice came from inside.
"Director Li, it's me, Xiao Su."
Su Mingde's face was full of smiles, and his voice carried a deliberate humility.
"Come in!"
Su Mingde pushed open the door and carefully stepped over the threshold.
"stop!"
Li Changhai slammed his hand on the table and stood up abruptly, his face terribly grim.
"Who let you in with your left foot first?"
Su Mingde froze on the spot, his smile frozen on his face.
"Director Li...?"
"Who in the entire organization doesn't know that I'm particular about this?"
Li Changhai shouted sternly.
"Entering with your right foot is the proper rule. What kind of attitude is this? Are you looking down on me, the deputy director?"
"No...no, Director Li..."
Su Mingde hurriedly stepped back, almost tripping over the threshold.
"I'll go back in now..."
"No need!"
Li Changhai snorted coldly.
"You don't even understand basic etiquette, what kind of deputy section chief are you? Get out!"
Su Mingde turned pale and slunk out of the office, closing the door behind him.
He stood in the corridor, cold sweat beading on his forehead, completely bewildered as to why Director Li's attitude towards him had changed so drastically overnight.
Inside the office, Li Changhai looked at the closed door, a cold smile curling at the corner of his mouth.
He picked up the internal phone.
"Xiao Liu, find last year's batch of old safety production ledgers and deliver them all to Su Mingde's office. Tell him to organize them before he leaves work today."
After hanging up the phone, Li Changhai leaned back in his leather seat, lit a cigarette, and squinted as he plotted how to make things difficult for the unfortunate deputy section chief.
