Let's turn our attention back to Beijing.
Su Jian Guojia.
Early in the morning, just as the sun was rising, Su Jianguo was already up.
"Honey, you're up so early?"
Wang Xiulan came out of the house wearing a coat, her eyes still sleepy.
Su Jianguo nodded.
"Yes, I'm planning to go back to the village today."
Wang Xiulan sighed and walked to her husband's side.
"What about Mingde?"
Wang Xiulan was still very worried about Su Mingde being taken away by the Discipline Inspection Commission.
"No rush, I'll ask around."
Su Jianguo gave a brief reply, unwilling to say more.
He didn't want his wife to know that he was the one who orchestrated Su Mingde's arrest by the Discipline Inspection Commission.
Just then, there was a rapid knocking at the gate.
Who is it? So early.
Wang Xiulan walked towards the gate with a puzzled look in her eyes.
Su Jianguo frowned; his intuition told him that the knocking was unusual.
He followed his wife to the gate of the courtyard and saw a young policeman in uniform standing there with a serious expression.
"Excuse me, are you from Su Jianguo?"
The police officer asked in a businesslike tone.
"I am Su Jianguo."
Su Jianguo stepped forward.
The police officer took a piece of paper out of his briefcase.
"I'm from the Chengxi Detention Center. Your son, Su Mingde, has requested to see you."
Wang Xiulan gasped and gripped her husband's arm tightly.
"Is Mingde...is he alright?"
The police officer's expression softened slightly.
"Currently, it's only suspected of financial fraud and embezzlement, which isn't the worst-case scenario. He himself requested to see his father, saying he has important matters to discuss."
Su Jianguo accepted the notification.
The paper had the words "Suspect Su Mingde applies to meet with family members" written on it in large characters.
When can I see him?
Su Jianguo said calmly.
"Just bring your ID card to the detention center to register at 10:00 AM this morning."
After the police officer finished speaking, he turned and left.
Wang Xiulan was already in tears.
"Master, Mingde... he's really been arrested?"
Su Jianguo patted his wife on the shoulder.
"Don't worry, I'll go check it out. Don't tell anyone else."
...
Two hours later, Su Jianguo stood in front of the iron gate of the West City Detention Center.
The drab building was surrounded by high walls and barbed wire, with several armed police officers standing guard at the entrance, creating a somber and oppressive atmosphere.
Registration, inspection, waiting...
After a series of procedures, Su Jianguo was led into a small meeting room.
The room was divided in two by an iron fence with sturdy iron mesh welded to it.
There was a wooden table, two chairs, and nothing else.
"Sit down and wait."
The prison guard finished speaking coldly and left.
Su Jianguo sat in his chair, his fingers tapping unconsciously on the table.
He didn't know why his second son suddenly wanted to see him, but his intuition told him that it wouldn't be a pleasant meeting.
The door opened, and two prison guards escorted a man in.
Su Jianguo could hardly recognize that it was Su Mingde.
At this moment, Su Mingde was wearing an orange prison uniform, his hair was shaved into a buzz cut, his face was pale, his eyes were sunken, and there was a bruise on the corner of his mouth.
The once spirited deputy section chief is now hunched over, his wrists clasped in gleaming handcuffs.
"dad..."
As soon as Su Mingde saw Su Jianguo, tears welled up in his eyes.
His voice was hoarse, as if he had been crying for a long time.
The prison guards pressed him into a chair and warned him.
"Twenty minutes, no physical contact allowed."
Then they retreated to the doorway and stood there, but were still within the listening range.
Su Mingde's handcuffs were fixed to the iron ring on the table. He struggled to raise his hand and wipe away his tears.
"Dad, I...I'm so sorry..."
Su Jianguo looked at his son quietly without saying anything.
He noticed that although Su Mingde was crying bitterly, his eyes kept sneaking glances at his reaction, suggesting that it was largely an act.
"Dad, I know I was wrong!"
Su Mingde suddenly shouted, which drew the attention of the prison guards.
"It's all Liu Meijuan and her father's fault! They used me, made me sign documents, and I had no idea which documents were problematic!"
Su Jianguo remained silent.
He was all too familiar with this line.
Every time Su Mingde makes a mistake, he shifts the blame to others.
"Did they force you to embezzle public funds?"
Su Jianguo finally spoke, his voice eerily calm.
Su Mingde was stunned for a moment, then cried even harder.
"Dad, you don't know the situation! I was framed! That bastard Li Changhai has been trying to get me for a long time; he set a trap for me!"
Su Jianguo watched his son's exaggerated performance without any emotional reaction.
"Dad, please."
Su Mingde suddenly lowered his voice and leaned forward.
"You know a lot of people, could you...could you use your connections? I'm willing to spend any amount of money, I can't go to jail!"
Su Jianguo's eyes turned cold.
What do you think I should do?
"Looking for our old man! Yes, my grandfather!"
Su Mingde said eagerly, his eyes lighting up.
"He definitely has a way! Or... or he could contact Uncle Liu's old comrades-in-arms; they must have connections!"
Su Jianguo shook his head, his disappointment evident.
"Mingde, don't you understand yet?"
"dad!"
Su Mingde's voice was choked with sobs.
"I'm your own son! You can't just stand by and watch me die! If I go to jail, where will the Su family's reputation be? Yuzhen isn't even married yet!"
