Su Jianguo handed the money to Huang Mao, his tone sincere.
"Let's be friends, and you can come and patronize my business often."
The blond-haired man glanced sideways at the wad of cash and spat out a disdainful "Pah!"
He snatched the money Su Jianguo handed him and threw it directly at Su Jianguo's face.
The banknotes immediately scattered all over the ground.
"Are you fucking treating me like a beggar?"
"The blond guy shouted at the top of his lungs."
"My brother is still in the hospital, and the medical bill is 500 yuan—not a penny less!"
A gasp rippled through the crowd. An elderly woman carrying a shopping basket muttered to herself.
"Isn't this blatant extortion..."
Before he could finish speaking, his companions pulled him away.
Su Jianjun could no longer hold back. He rushed forward and kicked Huang Mao in the stomach with his military green liberation shoes.
The kick was powerful and heavy, sending the blond-haired man flying backward. His back slammed heavily onto the vegetable stall, scattering tomatoes all over the ground.
"Build an army!"
Wang Xiulan cried out in alarm and tried to pull her brother-in-law away, but it was too late.
Yellow Hair lay sprawled on the ground like a dead fish, then suddenly began to roll around and howl in agony.
"Someone's been killed! The shop owner is beating someone!"
He howled and tore at his collar.
"Look everyone! The Zi family is bullying ordinary people!"
The other two thugs immediately pounced on the blond-haired guy, one pinching his philtrum and the other fanning him, shouting exaggeratedly.
"Hang in there, brother! We'll take you to the hospital right away!"
Su Jianguo's temples throbbed.
He noticed that the market administrator had long since disappeared, and several familiar faces among the onlookers were quietly retreating.
They were clearly frightened by the scene and probably won't dare to come to buy groceries again.
"Shut up, all of you!"
Su Jianguo suddenly shouted.
He strode over to the blond-haired man, squatted down, and said loudly.
"If you're a tough guy in Beijing, you have to follow the rules. Who's your boss? Scarface Zhang from the west side of the city? Or 'Third Master' from Dongzhimen?"
The yellow-haired man's howling stopped abruptly, and he squinted his triangular eyes to look at Su Jianguo again.
"Wow, you know your stuff, bro?"
He patted his buttocks, stood up, and leaned close to Su Jianguo, saying in a sinister tone.
"Since you know the rules, then let's do it the way they are. Five hundred yuan guarantees you a year of peace. I, 'Little Tyrant of Caishikou,' keep my word. If anyone bothers you again, I'll personally lead my men to take them down!"
Su Jianguo stared at the blond-haired man for a long time, then suddenly laughed.
If Huang Mao had talked to him nicely from the beginning, he might have actually agreed.
but.
It's gotten to this point.
Su Jianguo turned and walked into the store. Wang Xiulan wanted to follow him in, but he raised his hand to stop her.
There was a fruit knife lying in the drawer under the counter, which was usually used to cut the rope used to bundle vegetables.
When Su Jianguo walked out holding the knife, the crowd scattered in a circle.
Yellow Hair instinctively took a half step back, then straightened his chest.
"What? You want to fight? Come on! Stab it here!"
He patted his thin, bony chest.
The next second, everyone was stunned.
Without hesitation, Su Jianguo gripped the knife in his right hand and stabbed it into the outside of his own thigh.
With a muffled "thud," the blade sank nearly halfway into the ground!
Blood gushed out instantly, staining half of his pants crimson.
"Master!"
Wang Xiulan screamed in anguish.
She rushed over to check the wound, but Su Jianguo stopped her with a look.
The entire market was completely silent.
Huang Mao's face turned deathly pale. He stared at the knife stuck in Su Jianguo's leg, his Adam's apple bobbing up and down.
According to the unwritten rules among the tough guys of Beijing, this was called "bright red".
You can have money, but you have to be more ruthless than the other party.
Su Jianguo's forehead was covered in large beads of sweat, but he didn't utter a sound.
"Now, either you cut yourself too, or..."
He suddenly pulled out his knife and threw it at Huang Mao's feet, startling Huang Mao.
"Take your men and get out of here right now!"
The blond-haired man stared at the knife on the ground for a full ten seconds.
Then he turned and ran!
The two henchmen were stunned for a second before they reacted and chased after their boss, fleeing in a sorry state.
The crowd erupted in cheers.
Su Jianjun was the first to rush over and help Wang Xiulan support the swaying Su Jianguo.
Wang Xiulan's tears fell like beads from a broken string, her hands trembling as she supported Su Jianguo's swaying body.
"Honey, let's go to the hospital right now!"
Her voice was choked with sobs, her eyes fixed on the shocking bloodstain on her husband's thigh.
Su Jianguo waved his hand and said to Su Jianjun with a pale face.
"Jianjun, help me into the shop..."
Su Jianjun immediately understood, grabbed his brother's arm, and half-carried, half-helped him into the store.
Inside the vegetable store.
Three female employees, Li Hongmei, Wang Li, and Zhang Meili, huddled behind the counter, their faces ashen.
The youngest, Zhang Meili, even covered her mouth, tears welling up in her eyes.
They had never seen anything like this before.
The boss actually stabbed himself in the back in public!
Su Yuzhen hid behind the shelves, trembling with fear.
She was terrified as she looked at the "bloodstains" spreading across her father's trousers.
"Don't...don't just stand there."
Su Jianguo waved weakly.
"The shop is closed this morning. You...go home and rest, and come back to work this afternoon."
The three girls felt as if they had been granted a pardon. Li Hongmei took the lead in bowing, and the three of them quickly slipped out of the shop like startled rabbits.
Su Yuzhen also took the opportunity to slip out.
