Chapter 16 The Su Family Elders Enter the City

The old man's booming voice came through.

"You child, you don't even greet your parents when you see them?"

Su Jianguo felt a lump in his throat and almost fell off the car.

He staggered over and grabbed his father's rough, large hand.

The calluses on his palms, the familiar smell of tobacco—it all felt so real.

"Father! What brings you here?"

Su Jianguo's voice trembled, and his eyes welled up with tears.

Before the old man could answer, a furtive figure peeked out from behind the two elderly people.

"dad."

Su Mingqiang shrank his neck, a fawning smile plastered on his face.

Su Jianguo then noticed that his eldest son was also present.

His eyes turned cold, and he instantly understood what was going on.

That brat's brought reinforcements!

"OK!"

Su Jianguo grabbed Su Mingqiang by the collar.

"You think you've gotten bold, huh? Daring to use your grandparents to intimidate me?"

"Build the nation!"

The old man frowned and shouted.

"What are you doing in front of me?"

Su Jianguo took a deep breath and let go.

Su Mingqiang quickly hid behind his grandfather, but didn't forget to give his father a smug look.

"Father, you don't know."

Just as Su Jianguo was about to explain, he suddenly noticed the locked door, and on a whim, he changed the subject.

"Where's Xiulan? Why didn't she come out to greet you two?"

The old man snorted.

"Your wife took the child back to her parents' home, saying her mother is sick."

Su Jianguo secretly praised his wife's cleverness, but his face showed annoyance.

"Oh dear! Look at the mess this has made! A new batch of equipment just arrived at the factory, and I only came back to pick up a few clothes. I'll have to stay at the factory for the next few days."

As he spoke, he walked to the window, took out the hidden key, and opened the door. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed that Su Mingqiang's expression had changed.

"father."

Su Jianguo deliberately raised his voice.

"It's rare for you two to come to the city, so we can't neglect you. How about this, let Mingqiang take you to stay at his house for a few days. He has a radio, and don't you love listening to storytelling?"

The old man's eyes lit up.

"A radio? You mean that talking box?"

"Yes, yes, yes!"

Su Jianguo nodded repeatedly.

"Mingqiang's is an imported one!"

Su Mingqiang was so anxious that he kept stamping his feet.

"Dad! It's over there."

"how?"

Su Jianguo shot him a glare.

"Your grandparents came all this way, and you won't even let them stay?"

The old man's face also darkened.

"Qiangzi, what do you mean by this?"

"No, sir."

Su Mingqiang was sweating profusely with anxiety.

"My home is small."

"Small? What do you mean, 'small'!"

Su Jianguo interrupted him.

"Didn't you brag about buying a new bed last month? Perfect for Grandpa and Grandma to sleep in!"

He strode into the house, quickly gathered his change of clothes, and deliberately put the key in his pocket when locking the door.

Let's go!

Su Jianguo warmly helped the two elderly people into the car.

"I'll hire a car to take you there."

Su Mingqiang was dumbfounded.

"Dad! This."

"Do you have any other objections?"

The old man glared.

"Do you think we old folks are dirty?"

"No, no, no."

Su Mingqiang waved his hands repeatedly, his face turning green.

Su Jianguo had already quickly called a tricycle at the entrance of the alley and carefully helped the two elderly people onto it.

"Master, go to the steel mill's residential compound, compound number three."

He loudly announced Su Mingqiang's address and then took out two yuan to give to the driver.

"No need to look anymore, just take good care of my parents!"

Su Mingqiang was so anxious he was jumping up and down.

"Dad! Jinhua, she..."

"how?"

Su Jianguo sneered.

"Your wife won't even let the elderly into the house? Then I'm going to go to the neighborhood committee and have a word with her."

This statement struck at Su Mingqiang's Achilles' heel.

He opened his mouth, but ultimately dejectedly pushed his bicycle and followed behind the tricycle.

The old man sat in the car and said to Su Jianguo with a smile.

"Jianguo is still the most sensible. Qiangzi is getting more and more outrageous as he gets older."

Su Jianguo's nose tingled again.

In his previous life, his father held his hand on his deathbed and said, "Jianguo is the most sensible."

He took a deep breath.

"Dad, you and Mom have a good few days of fun. When Xiulan comes back, I'll come to pick you up myself."

The tricycle slowly started moving, and Su Jianguo stood there waving until the vehicle turned out of the alley before lowering his hand.

He touched the keys in his pocket, a cold smile curling at the corner of his mouth.

Su Mingqiang wants to fight him? He's still too green!

Just as he was about to leave, he saw Aunt Zhang peek out from next door and give him a thumbs up.

"Old Su, brilliant! Absolutely brilliant!"

Seeing that the two elderly people had left, Wang Xiulan then took the child and left Aunt Zhang's house.

Su Jianguo immediately understood what was going on and a smile of approval appeared on his face.

"Xiulan, well done!"

Su Jianguo strode forward and patted his wife on the shoulder.

"I knew you could adapt to any situation."

A blush rose to Wang Xiulan's face, and she twisted the hem of her clothes with her fingers.

"My dear husband, I... I just wanted to prevent them from getting involved."

"Mom is amazing!"

Su Yufen took her mother's arm, her eyes sparkling.

"If Mom hadn't made that quick decision, Grandpa and Grandma would definitely be sitting at home right now."

Su Mingfu puffed out his chest, eager to claim credit.

"I noticed it first! On my way home from school, I saw my older brother driving a donkey cart with my grandparents sitting on it. I knew something was wrong as soon as I saw it, so I ran back to tell them!"

"Good lad!"
