The man pointed to the station building.
"But he's probably inspecting the cargo yard right now."
Su Jianguo thanked him and followed the directions toward the freight yard.
In the freight yard, several freight cars are being loaded and unloaded.
Su Jianguo saw from afar a burly figure wearing a woolen overcoat and a peaked hat giving a speech, with several uniformed people around him nodding in agreement.
Although they hadn't seen each other for over twenty years, Su Jianguo recognized Chow Tai Fook at a glance.
His signature square face and thick eyebrows haven't changed at all, only his hair has turned white and his belly has gotten quite big.
"Director Zhou!"
Su Jianguo stood outside the safety line and shouted at the top of his lungs.
Zhou Dafu turned his head, squinted at it for a long time, and suddenly slapped his thigh.
"Hey! Isn't this the founding of the nation!"
He walked over in a few steps and grabbed Su Jianguo's hand.
"Oh my, it's been so many years since we last saw each other!"
"Yes, it's been over twenty years..."
Su Jianguo answered with a smile.
Chow Tai Fook then burst into laughter.
"That's right, we're both old men now!"
He turned to his subordinates and said.
"You all go ahead with your work, I need to meet with an old classmate."
Zhou Dafu affectionately put his arm around Su Jianguo's shoulder and led him to his office.
The room was small but very clean, with certificates and banners hanging on the walls and a brand-new telephone on the desk.
"Sit down, sit down!"
Chow Tai Fook poured Su Jianguo a cup of hot tea.
"You didn't even call before you came."
He pointed to the phone on the table, his tone tinged with pride.
Su Jianguo warmed his hands with a teacup and said with a smile.
"How would I know your office phone number? I had to ask several people at the station before I finally found you, and they all said Director Zhou was very busy."
No matter how busy I am, I can't miss seeing my old classmates!
Zhou Dafu poured himself a cup of tea and sat down opposite Su Jianguo.
"I remember you were later assigned to the steel rolling mill? As an electrician, right?"
"I quit a long time ago."
Su Jianguo shook his head.
"Now I run my own small business."
"oh?"
Chow Tai Fook became interested.
What kind of business are you in?
"I opened a vegetable shop, selling off-season vegetables."
Su Jianguo said it casually.
Chow Tai Fook's eyes lit up.
"Sure! Now that things are more open, doing business is better than working in a factory."
He lowered his voice.
"To be honest, my brother-in-law also owns a furniture store, and he earns about this much a month."
He held up three fingers.
three hundred?
Su Jianguo chuckled inwardly, but didn't show it on his face.
"Your jobs are still the most secure."
"What's so safe about it!"
Chow Tai Fook waved his hand.
"I'm always so busy, I barely have time to breathe. By the way, what brings you here today...?"
Su Jianguo put down his teacup and asked casually.
"Dafu, I heard you have trucks that specialize in transporting vegetables from the south? I'd like to inquire about the prices."
Zhou Dafu's expression changed drastically.
"Jianguo, you can't just say things like that!"
He glanced nervously at the closed door and immediately whispered.
"The trains belong to the government; who would dare use them to transport smuggled goods?"
Su Jianguo feigned surprise.
"Oh? I heard from someone that..."
"Who told you that?"
Chow Tai Fook interrupted him.
"You can't spread these rumors! The higher-ups are cracking down hard right now; anyone caught will be punished!"
Su Jianguo quickly waved his hand.
"I was just asking casually. You know, we business people are always looking for cheap sources of goods."
Chow Tai Fook's expression softened slightly, but his eyes now held a hint of wariness.
"Jianguo, we're old classmates, let me give you a piece of advice: it's best to stay away from these kinds of dubious goods."
"That's right, that's right."
Su Jianguo nodded repeatedly, then changed the subject.
"By the way, I heard there's a place called 'Sanbao Vegetable Shop' that specializes in selling southern vegetables, and the prices are outrageously high..."
"Cough cough!"
Chow Tai Fook suddenly started coughing violently, his face turning bright red.
"Jianguo, it's getting late, I have a meeting in a bit..."
Su Jianguo tactfully stood up.
"Look at me, I was so busy talking that I kept you from getting back to work."
He pulled a piece of paper from his pocket.
"This is the address of my shop. Come and visit sometime."
Chow Tai Fook took the note and visibly breathed a sigh of relief.
"Definitely, definitely."
As Zhou Dafu saw Su Jianguo to the door, he suddenly lowered his voice.
"Jianguo, what you just said..."
"What did you say?"
Su Jianguo looked completely bewildered.
"Aren't we just catching up?"
Zhou Dafu paused for a moment, then smiled knowingly and patted Su Jianguo on the shoulder forcefully.
"Great! Great! I'll definitely pay you a visit another day!"
As he stepped out of the train station, Su Jianguo took off his dog-skin hat and exhaled a long puff of white breath.
Chow Tai Fook's reaction says it all.
That "express train" definitely has a problem.
"Since you dare to use public trains to transport private goods, don't blame me for being impolite."
Su Jianguo muttered to himself, a resolute glint in his eyes.
He strode toward the nearby post office and took out a pen and his notebook from his pocket.
He sat on a bench in the post office and began writing his complaint letter with great care.
The first letter was addressed to the railway bureau, detailing the suspicious circumstances surrounding the "special express train" transporting private vegetables, including the train number and date.
The second letter was addressed to the market regulators, reporting Ma Sanbao's price gouging and market monopoly.
