Chapter 189 Su Mingqiang angrily slashes Zhang Haiyang

Could it be that the hospital made a mistake?

or...

An even more terrifying possibility surfaced in his mind.

What are you dawdling about?

Li Jinhua's voice came from behind, clearly showing impatience.

Su Mingqiang quickly put away the other papers, but kept the birth certificate.

He stood up nonchalantly, put the folder back in its place, but quietly folded the paper and stuffed it into his pocket.

"Nothing, I found the flour."

He forced a smile.

"I'll make you a pancake."

Li Jinhua glanced at him suspiciously, but in the end she just snorted and took the fried eggs to the living room.

Su Mingqiang kneaded the dough mechanically, but his mind was in turmoil.

He recalled the changes in Li Jinhua during this time, the gossip from the neighbors, and the mysterious short-haired man...

All the clues gradually pieced together like jigsaw puzzle pieces, forming a truth he didn't want to face.

The dough was kneaded tighter and tighter in his hands.

Suddenly, the sound of a baby crying came from the bedroom, interrupting his thoughts.

Su Mingqiang washed his hands and went to the bedroom.

The child is awake and is waving his arms and legs in his crib.

Upon seeing Su Mingqiang, the little guy actually stopped crying and stared at him with his round eyes.

"Xiao Ming..."

Su Mingqiang called softly, reaching out to gently stroke the child's soft hair.

Just then, a few fine strands of hair got tangled in his fingers.

Su Mingqiang stared at those few strands of hair and suddenly made up his mind.

He carefully removed the hair, tore a small piece of calendar paper from the bedside table, wrapped the hair in it, and then stuffed it into his shirt pocket.

"Dad will be back soon."

He whispered to the child.

Back in the kitchen, Su Mingqiang quickly made two pancakes and brought them to the living room, placing them in front of Li Jinhua.

"I have to go out for a bit."

He tried to speak calmly.

"I'll be back soon."

Li Jinhua didn't even look up.

"as you like."

As he stepped out of his house, Su Mingqiang's pace quickened until he was almost jogging.

He needs to go to the hospital and needs to know the truth, no matter how cruel it may be.

"Impossible...the hospital must have made a mistake..."

Su Mingqiang kept reassuring himself.

Arrived at the hospital.

Long queues have formed in front of the outpatient building of the First Hospital of Beijing.

Su Mingqiang stood under the sign for the "Laboratory Department," his palms sweating profusely.

He took a deep breath and walked into the hospital lobby.

"Excuse me, where can I get a paternity test done?"

Su Mingqiang asked the nurse at the information desk in a hoarse voice.

The nurse looked up at him, her eyes filled with pity.

"The genetics department is on the third floor, but you need to make an appointment in advance."

"I...I have special circumstances."

Su Mingqiang took the birth certificate out of his pocket.

"My child has a blood type problem; I suspect the hospital made a mistake."

The nurse looked at the certificate, and after listening to Su Mingqiang's explanation, her expression of pity deepened.

"This is definitely not normal. Wait a moment, I'll go ask the director."

The few minutes of waiting felt like centuries.

Su Mingqiang sat on the bench, his hands clasped tightly together.

He recalled the first time he held his child; the wrinkled little life slept peacefully in his arms, and at that moment he felt like the happiest person in the world.

"Mr. Su?"

A middle-aged doctor in a white coat stood in front of him.

"I'm Director Wang from the Genetics Department. I heard you have questions about your blood type?"

Su Mingqiang suddenly stood up.

"Director Wang, my wife and I are both blood type A, but our child's birth certificate says he/she is blood type B. This...this can't be right, can it?"

Director Wang adjusted his glasses.

"From a genetic standpoint, it's indeed impossible. However, blood type testing can sometimes be inaccurate. Did you bring your child's sample?"

Su Mingqiang trembled as he pulled the small paper packet out of his pocket.

"This...this is the child's hair."

"And yours?"

Su Mingqiang plucked out a few strands of hair and handed them to the doctor.

"We also need a sample from the mother."

Director Wang said.

Su Mingqiang bit his lip.

"My wife...she doesn't know about this. Can we do it for me and the child first?"

Director Wang sighed.

"That's possible, but the legal validity of the result will be compromised. How about this, I'll do an expedited test for you, and you'll have the results in three hours. If the hospital made a mistake, we'll correct the records; if..."

"If what?"

Su Mingqiang's voice was strained.

"If the results do show that the child is not yours, I suggest you bring your wife to get a formal paternity test."

Director Wang said tactfully.

Su Mingqiang felt dizzy and had to hold onto the wall to keep from falling.

"How...how much?"

"Express service, 30 yuan."

Su Mingqiang took out his wallet, which contained his entire salary for the month.

120 yuan.

He gritted his teeth.

"If you're going to do it, then do it as an expedited service."

Director Wang nodded and immediately arranged for someone to draw blood.

The pain of the needle piercing his skin during the blood draw brought Su Mingqiang back to his senses somewhat.

He watched the dark red blood flow into the test tube and suddenly remembered Li Jinhua's shy smile on their wedding night.

She was so innocent and beautiful back then, how could she have become like this?

"Come to the third floor in three hours to pick up the results."

The nurse's words brought him back to reality.

As Su Mingqiang walked out of the hospital, he stood on the steps, the sunlight so bright he could hardly open his eyes.
