"I don't concern myself with my father's affairs."
Su Mingde stared at the back of his younger brother's head, a nameless anger rising within him.
This bookworm only knows how to study all day long and is indifferent to family matters.
But he quickly suppressed his anger; now was not the time to argue.
"I was just asking casually."
Su Mingde said, pretending to be relaxed.
In his mind, however, he was already recalling the pocket in Su Jianguo's clothes where he kept his money.
He didn't know where that family heirloom was hidden, and now he only had one option left.
Just steal it.
As the saying goes, a son stealing from his father isn't considered stealing.
Su Mingde gritted his teeth, deciding to act tonight to avoid any unforeseen complications.
As night deepened, the chirping of crickets echoed throughout the courtyard.
Su Mingde lay in bed, tossing and turning.
Liu Meijuan's affectionate eyes, her gentle and fair skin, and a series of images intertwined in his mind, making it impossible for him to fall asleep.
As the old saying goes, "If a son steals from his father, it's not really stealing..."
Su Mingde tried to justify himself in his mind.
He recalled a story told by an old man in the village when he was a child, saying that in ancient times it was perfectly natural for a son to take his father's things.
This thought made him feel a little better.
He listened intently and heard his father's even snoring coming from the next room.
Su Mingde rose gently, his movements as light as a cat's.
He put on his slippers and tiptoed toward the door.
"Second Brother?"
In the darkness, Su Mingfu's voice suddenly rang out, startling Su Mingde so much that he almost jumped up.
"I...I'm going to the restroom."
Su Mingde stammered, his heart pounding like a drum.
Su Mingfu turned over and didn't say anything more.
Su Mingde stood in the darkness for a while, making sure his younger brother was asleep again, before continuing his actions.
He gently pushed open the door and slipped into the main room.
Moonlight streamed through the window, casting dappled shadows on the floor.
Su Mingde held his breath and walked toward his father and mother's room.
The door wasn't locked, so he gently pushed it open a crack.
The father's and mother's snores mingled together, rising and falling in waves.
Su Mingde tiptoed in, his eyes searching the room.
He first searched through Su Mingde's clothes that he had hung up, but didn't find a single penny.
Su Mingde was not discouraged. Many elderly people like to put money under their pillows before going to sleep.
He quietly felt under Su Jianguo's pillow, but found nothing.
Su Mingde gritted his teeth in anger.
Start thinking...
I thought about it for a while.
He suddenly remembered that his father used to hide money in a secret compartment by the bed.
Su Mingde was overjoyed and slowly squatted down, carefully feeling his way along the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed).
His fingers touched a bump, and he was overjoyed.
Just then, Wang Xiulan rolled over, startling Su Mingde so much that he froze on the spot, his back instantly soaked with cold sweat.
He held his breath and waited motionless.
A few seconds later, the snoring started again.
Su Mingde breathed a sigh of relief and continued his search.
He gently pressed the protrusion, and a brick opened, revealing a hidden compartment inside.
Su Mingde's heart raced, and his fingers trembled as he reached into the hidden compartment.
Just as Su Mingde's fingers touched the tin biscuit box in the hidden compartment, a blinding flash of light suddenly appeared in the darkness.
The sudden burst of light startled Su Mingde, causing him to tremble and abruptly withdraw his fingers as if burned.
The tin box I just picked up
Clang!
With a sound, it fell back into the dark compartment.
In the dim light of the kerosene lamp, Su Jianguo sat cross-legged on the kang (a heated brick bed), a Daqianmen cigarette dangling from his mouth, lighting it by the lamplight.
As the stars flickered, the wrinkled face appeared half-lit and half-shadowed, like a clay statue.
"father..."
Su Mingde's throat tightened, and his voice was barely audible.
His knees suddenly went weak, his back was soaked with cold sweat, and he didn't know what to do.
These past two days, he had seen how his father treated his eldest brother and his younger sister.
The two children who were usually the most pampered are now being hit and scolded at will, not to mention the second child who is usually neglected.
Seeing that his father didn't say anything and was just silently smoking,
Su Mingde finally couldn't hold back any longer.
direct.
"thump."
Kneeling on the brick floor, the coolness of the blue bricks seeped through my thin pajama bottoms and rushed up to me.
Su Jianguo took a deep drag of his cigarette, and the smoke rings he exhaled slowly spread under the light.
He then looked up at his second son, his eyes fixed on him as if he were looking at a stranger.
"What are you looking for?"
Su Jianguo's voice was eerily calm.
Su Mingde pressed his forehead against the ground, cold sweat dripping down his nose and staining the bricks with dark dots.
He heard the sound of his teeth chattering.
"I...I..."
The kerosene lamp crackled and popped.
Su Jianguo stood up, reached into the hidden compartment and took out a tin box. The four faded red characters "Friendship Biscuits" on the lid stung Su Mingde's eyes.
"You want this?"
Su Jianguo tapped the tin box with his cigarette butt.
Su Mingde suddenly lunged forward and hugged his father's leg, his snot and tears smearing onto Su Jianguo's pajama pants.
"Dad, I was wrong! I'll never do it again! It's Meijuan's...her father pushed her too hard..."
"Director Liu's daughter?"
Su Jianguo sneered, and cigarette ash fell on his son's head.
"That slut who got pregnant with someone else's child and is now asking you to take her place?"
No!
Su Mingde suddenly looked up, his eyes red, but he still tried his best to defend his beloved girl.
