These words pierced Liu Meijuan's heart like a knife.
Her tears flowed even more fiercely, and she bit her lower lip and shook her head.
"Mingde, I really know I was wrong! You're the one who loves me the most."
She finished speaking, sobbing.
Suddenly, she got up and sat on the edge of the bed, throwing herself into Su Mingde's arms before he could react.
Her soft body pressed against him, the scent of shampoo filling his nostrils, and Su Mingde's mind went blank for a moment.
The goddess of his past lay in his arms.
Even though Su Mingde, the sycophant, had finally awakened, he was still momentarily dazed.
"I regret it, Mingde."
Liu Meijuan's voice, warm and gentle, brushed against his ear.
"I don't want the bride price anymore, I don't want anything, I just want you to still want me..."
She deliberately rubbed her chest against Su Mingde, intentionally or unintentionally.
Unexpectedly, the rubbed area was the wrong place; it was right where Su Mingde's broken ribs were.
A sharp pain made Su Mingde scream.
"Ah! Get away!"
Liu Meijuan was pushed away abruptly and fell to the ground.
She stared in astonishment at Su Mingde's contorted face, only then realizing that she had touched his wound.
But what terrified her even more was the disgust in Su Mingde's eyes.
That expression she had never seen on this man's face before.
"Have you had enough of acting?"
Su Mingde was panting heavily, cold sweat beading on his forehead.
"You'd even put on this kind of act to save your father? Liu Meijuan, you disgust me."
Liu Meijuan's face turned deathly pale instantly.
She didn't expect that Su Mingde would guess her true purpose.
But since things had come to this, she had no choice but to grit her teeth and continue acting.
"No, Mingde, you've misunderstood..."
She crawled two steps on her knees, trying to get closer to the hospital bed.
"Stay where you are!"
Su Mingde shouted sternly.
"If you come any closer, I'll call the nurse."
Liu Meijuan stood frozen in place, tears streaming down her face once again.
If she doesn't get a letter of forgiveness, she really will be kicked out of the house by her family.
With that in mind, she decided to use her last resort.
The air in the ward seemed to freeze.
Liu Meijuan stopped crying. She slowly raised her head, tears still clinging to her long eyelashes, shimmering faintly in the pale light.
"Brother Mingde..."
Her voice was as soft as a feather.
Look at me closely, am I beautiful?
The question came so suddenly that Su Mingde was stunned.
His gaze involuntarily fell on Liu Meijuan's face.
That face he had longed for day and night.
Even now, with her makeup ruined by tears and bruises around her eyes, she is still so beautiful.
That kind of beauty was like a sharp knife, piercing directly into the softest part of Su Mingde's heart.
Su Mingde's Adam's apple bobbed up and down, but no sound came out.
He recalled the first time he met Liu Meijuan at the textile factory. She was wearing a light blue polyester shirt, her black braids hanging down her chest, and sunlight filtering through the leaves, casting dappled shadows on her face.
At that moment, he knew he was finished.
Seeing Su Mingde remain silent, Liu Meijuan's lips curled up slightly, revealing a poignant smile.
She slowly stood up, her movements as graceful as a cat's. The collar of her white shirt opened slightly with her movement, revealing a section of her snow-white neck.
I know you still have feelings for me.
She spoke softly, moving step by step closer to the hospital bed.
"You can't bear to say I'm not pretty, right?"
Su Mingde felt a sudden dryness in his mouth.
He wanted to argue, to roar, to kick out this woman who had betrayed him, but the words fell into a powerless silence.
His fingers unconsciously gripped the sheets, and he blamed himself for being so weak.
Liu Meijuan had already walked to the bedside. She stretched out her slender fingers and gently stroked the back of Su Mingde's hand.
The sensation sent a shiver down Su Mingde's spine.
Her fingers were icy cold, yet felt like they carried an electric current.
"Mingde, I know I was wrong."
She spoke softly and slowly took Su Mingde's hand.
"I don't want anything anymore, not the bride price, not the luxury goods, just that you still want me..."
Su Mingde felt his hand being pulled and slowly placed on Liu Meijuan's chest.
Even through the thin shirt, he could feel her rapid heartbeat and warm body temperature.
This goddess, who was once out of reach, is now within his reach.
"Look."
Liu Meijuan's voice was soft and seductive.
"A woman as beautiful as me would be willing to marry you without asking for anything in return. Mingde, are you really willing to leave me?"
As she spoke, Liu Meijuan chuckled.
"Will you ever find a woman more beautiful than me?"
Su Mingde's breathing became heavy.
She's right. Given his circumstances, it would indeed be difficult for him to find a woman as beautiful as Liu Meijuan.
He's just a low-level clerk in the neighborhood office, earning a meager salary of 42.5 yuan a month. What pretty girl in the city would want him?
Liu Meijuan keenly noticed Su Mingde's wavering.
She leaned forward slightly, allowing Su Mingde a clearer view of what lay beneath her neckline, while pressing his hand even tighter against her chest.
"I know my pregnancy has upset you, but you don't need to worry about the baby."
She leaned close to Su Mingde's ear, her breath as sweet as orchids.
"I can get an abortion. After we get married, I'll give you a child that truly belongs to us, okay?"
These words struck Su Mingde like a heavy hammer.
He suddenly looked up and met Liu Meijuan's affectionate eyes.
