Chapter 77 A Clever Plan to Deal with the Villagers

Su Jianguo suddenly stood up and walked straight out the door.

"Comrade Su, calm down."

Officer Li grabbed his arm.

"Investigating a case requires evidence. We searched the entire village, but we couldn't even find a trace of their house."

"So you're just going to let it go like that?"

Su Jianguo shook off Officer Li's hand.

My brother is still in the hospital, his life hanging in the balance!

The police station fell silent immediately, and everyone looked in their direction.

Officer Li coughed awkwardly and pulled Su Jianguo toward a corner.

"Let's go inside and talk."

Upon entering the interrogation room, Officer Li closed the door, his expression turning serious.

"Comrade Su, I understand your feelings, but handling cases is not as simple as you think."

"Simple?"

Su Jianguo sneered.

"Four living, breathing people, with names and faces, just vanished into thin air?"

"The situation in Zhangjia Village is very special."

Officer Li poured a glass of water and pushed it to Su Jianguo.

"Everyone in the village is surnamed Zhang, and they're all related. When we arrived, they all pretended to be clueless. Without eyewitnesses or direct evidence, we couldn't even get a search warrant."

Su Jianguo slammed the glass of water away, spilling it all over the table.

"Evidence? Aren't the injuries on my brother evidence? He was almost beaten to death!"

"Only one ear was found at the scene."

Officer Li said helplessly.

"This is the only one without a certificate. The most urgent task is to find the owner of this ear."

Upon hearing this, Su Jianguo was overjoyed to learn that an ear had been preserved on site.

Although his own brother Wu Er was seriously injured, at least his body was still intact.

The ear found at the scene must have been left by the perpetrator.

In other words, the only solution now is to find the four Zhang brothers.

With a clear goal in mind, Su Jianguo finally calmed down and began to carefully consider countermeasures.

In this day and age, there are far too many cases of villagers protecting each other's relatives. Every village is very united, and it's practically impossible to get villagers to voluntarily hand over their relatives.

Soon, Su Jianguo came up with a solution.

Humans are inherently selfish; the more impregnable a fortress appears, the easier it is to breach its defenses.

Su Jianguo immediately pulled up a chair and sat down, took out a pack of Daqianmen cigarettes from his pocket, and handed one to Officer Li.

"Officer Li, I'm really sorry, I got a little too excited just now."

Officer Li was somewhat surprised, but he still took the cigarette, and Su Jianguo lit it for him with a match.

Officer Li took a puff and then said calmly.

“It’s normal. We’ve seen plenty of people like you in this line of work. But what’s the use of being anxious? Cases still need to be handled slowly.”

Su Jianguo hurriedly nodded in agreement; he would need the help of this person in front of him for his next plan.

Seeing that Officer Li didn't seem to care about his tone, Su Jianguo quickly said something.

"Officer Li, I have an idea regarding the villagers of Zhangjiazhuang's cover-up."

"Hmm? Go ahead."

Officer Li took a deep breath, waiting for what would follow.

Why are the people of Zhangjiazhuang protecting the four Zhang brothers, and why is no one saying anything?

Instead of answering, Su Jianguo posed a question.

"It's about loyalty, that's how country folk are, they're always protective of their own, especially when they're relatives, they're even more protective."

Officer Li continued, exhaling a smoke ring.

"Besides, the Zhang brothers wield considerable influence in the village; no one dares to offend them."

Su Jianguo shook his head.

"That's not all. They're not afraid of us because they think we can't do anything to them. Even if we arrest a few people and detain them for a few days, we'll release them anyway; it won't do them any harm."

Officer Li nodded thoughtfully.

"That makes sense. What are your thoughts?"

"They need to feel the pain acutely."

Su Jianguo lowered his voice.

"Officer Li, could you issue a notice in the name of the police station? Post it in Zhangjiazhuang, clearly stating that we are protecting criminals, and that the political background checks of all the young people in the village will be affected, making it impossible for them to join the army or get jobs."

Officer Li's eyes lit up, and he even forgot to smoke.

"Brilliant! These days, who doesn't care about their child's future? Failing the political background check can ruin their entire life."

"That's exactly right."

Su Jianguo smiled confidently.

"This is just the first step, putting pressure on the villagers. They are loyal as long as their own interests are not harmed, but what if their interests are damaged?"

Officer Li agreed with Su Jianguo's words.

He had personally experienced the villagers of Zhangjiazhuang; none of them were kind people.

I originally thought that this was Su Jianguo's plan.

Unexpectedly, Su Jianguo continued.

"This is just the first step; next, I will issue a bounty."

"A bounty?"

Officer Li became interested.

"Tell me more about it."

Su Jianguo casually extended one hand.

“We told the villagers that anyone who could provide accurate information about the Zhang brothers and successfully help us catch them would get 500 yuan. Anyone who could directly catch them and take them to the police station would get 2000 yuan.”

Officer Li gasped.

"2000 yuan? You're really willing to spend that much money?"

Su Jianguo said it casually.

"It was worth the money to get justice for my brother."

Officer Li thought about the plan carefully and was immediately impressed.

"Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! I've seen through those guys from Zhangjiazhuang. They seem loyal on the surface, but they're all driven by self-interest. 2000 yuan is enough to make them envious!"

"Not only that."
