He clenched his fist, his knuckles making a "crack" sound.
"That beast!"
He growled through gritted teeth.
"I'm going to break his legs right now!"
He turned to rush out, but Wang Xiulan grabbed his clothes.
"The head of the household..."
Wang Xiulan's voice was so weak that it was almost inaudible.
"Don't...don't be impulsive..."
Su Jianguo suddenly stopped in his tracks, turned around and saw his wife's pale face, and his heart softened instantly.
He knelt down and gently took Wang Xiulan's hand.
"Xiulan, don't rush, tell me slowly."
Wang Xiulan cried as she spoke to Su Jianguo.
"My dear husband, I'm so sorry... I gave birth to such an unfilial son..."
"nonsense!"
Su Jianguo interrupted sharply.
"What does this have to do with you? That beast is heartless!"
Su Yufen poured a glass of warm water and handed it to her mother, then whispered to her father.
"The eldest son put on airs as soon as he walked in, insisting that Yuzhen and I serve him. Later he said...that you, Father, pocketed the 30,000 yuan compensation, and he wanted his share."
Su Jianguo sneered.
"Deserved? How dare he say that?"
But he quickly realized the seriousness of the problem, and his brows furrowed even more.
"Is the neighborhood committee really sending someone?"
Su Yuzhen nodded.
"My older brother said we've already registered, and he'll be here promptly at nine o'clock tomorrow morning. Everyone in the family needs to be there."
The courtyard fell silent for a moment, with only the occasional sobs of Da Mao and Er Mao.
Su Jianguo stood up and paced back and forth in the courtyard, each step heavy.
Once this matter goes through the neighborhood committee, whether or not the family is divided will likely be beyond Su Jianguo's control.
"The head of the household..."
Wang Xiulan struggled to sit up.
"If this matter gets taken to the neighborhood committee, our family will be..."
Su Jianguo knew what his wife was worried about.
In this era that values reputation, if a father and son go to court and it escalates to the point where the neighborhood committee has to mediate a division of the family property, where will the Su family's face be?
He took a deep breath and forced himself to calm down.
His years of life experience taught him that anger solves nothing.
"Yu Fen."
He suddenly spoke, his voice now calm.
"Go and pour me a cup of tea."
Su Yufen was stunned for a moment, then quickly ran into the house.
Su Jianguo walked to the recliner and sat down, gently patting his wife's hand.
"Xiulan, don't worry, I'll handle this."
Wang Xiulan looked up at her husband, her eyes filled with worry.
"But what about the neighborhood committee office..."
What's wrong with the neighborhood committee?
Su Jianguo sneered.
"They have to be reasonable too. Su Mingqiang has already been expelled from the family, and his name is no longer on the family genealogy. What right does he have to claim a share of the inheritance?"
Su Yufen brought out the tea and carefully handed it to her father.
Su Jianguo took the teacup, took a sip, and calmed himself down.
"father."
Su Yuzhen suddenly said.
"I think my brother is determined to cause trouble this time. He said... he'll burn the house down if you don't pay, so everyone will know you've pocketed the compensation."
Su Jianguo's anger, which he had just suppressed, surged up again instantly.
If Su Mingqiang really did that, Su Jianguo would probably never be able to hold his head up again.
"That beast..."
Su Jianguo squeezed out these words through gritted teeth, but then sighed.
"Forget it, it's not worth getting angry with someone like that."
He stood up and walked to the center of the courtyard.
Da Mao and Er Mao were still howling there.
"Stop crying, everyone."
He suddenly raised his voice.
"Da Mao, Er Mao, come to Grandpa's."
The two children walked over timidly, and Su Jianguo squatted down and wiped away the tears of his two grandsons with his sleeve.
"What are you crying for, a real man? Even if the sky falls, your grandpa will hold it up!"
After appeasing Da Mao and Er Mao, Su Jianguo fell into deep thought. He needed to come up with a way to deal with Su Mingqiang's decision to divide the family property.
At this point, Su Jianguo actually didn't have much money left.
The money I earned, the money I saved, and the money I made from selling my job have all been used to buy a courtyard house.
The compensation of 30,000 yuan allowed him to buy four barren mountains and land in Sujiatun.
Right now, it's extremely difficult for Su Jianguo to even come up with a few thousand yuan.
Su Mingqiang wants to divide the family property and money.
Su Jianguo thought about it for a long time and finally came up with a brilliant idea.
Without having time to eat, Su Jianguo immediately gave some instructions to the three women, went back to his room to get some things, and then hurriedly left the courtyard.
After leaving the alley, Su Jianguo rode his bicycle straight to the People's Bank in the west of the city.
"Separate the family? Hmph!"
Su Jianguo gritted his teeth and stomped his feet even harder.
"We'll see what you do then!"
At the bank entrance, Su Jianguo locked his bicycle and strode inside.
Pushing open the door, at this time of day, there weren't many people in the bank lobby, with only a few scattered queues at each window.
Su Jianguo didn't join the queue, but went straight to the manager's office on the right.
"Comrade, who are you looking for?"
A young female employee stopped him.
"I'm looking for your manager, Zhao Zhiqiang."
Su Jianguo gave a polite smile.
"Just tell him that his old classmate Su Jianguo is looking for him."
The female employee looked Su Jianguo up and down. Seeing that Su Jianguo was dressed appropriately and had a sincere attitude, she nodded.
"Please wait a moment."
A moment later, the office door opened, and a middle-aged man in a white shirt with slicked-back hair strode out.
