The branch struck the boar king's back, enraging it further. It continued to ram the tree trunk, but to no avail except to make itself dizzy.
Seeing this, Wu Ermaitai laughed heartily, broke off a few more tree branches, and threw them down one after another like javelins.
"Come on, again!"
Wu Er became more and more enthusiastic as he threw the trash, completely forgetting his disheveled appearance just now.
"You stupid pig, you can't even knock down a tree, and you want to eat people? Go home and drink your milk!"
The wild boar king was thoroughly enraged. It let out a deafening roar and frantically rammed and tore at the tree trunk, but only a few shallow teeth marks were left on the thick trunk.
Wu Er was laughing so hard on the tree that he almost fell over, and he even unbuckled his belt and peed on the wild boar king.
"Here's something good for you, you beast!"
Urine was poured onto the head of the wild boar king.
The wild boar king felt an unprecedented humiliation.
It took a few steps back, then suddenly accelerated and charged towards the tree trunk.
With a muffled thud, bark flew everywhere, and Wu Ermai felt the entire tree tremble.
He looked down and, good heavens, the transparent membrane on the beast's forehead was shattered, revealing the pink brain tissue inside.
"What the hell kind of monster is this...?"
Wu Er swallowed hard, suddenly regretting that he had provoked them too much.
The wild boar king seemed tireless, charging harder with each attack.
Although the tree was thick and strong, its roots had begun to loosen, and soil was falling down in clumps.
Just as Wu Er was feeling uneasy, he faintly heard shouts from afar.
"Hey, where are you?"
"Brother Wu! Answer me if you hear me!"
"Everyone, spread out and search!"
Wu Ermai's ears twitched, and he immediately recognized that it was Su Jianjun's voice, along with the shouts of other villagers.
He immediately perked up and shouted at the top of his lungs.
"Here I am! I'm here! Under the big tree! There's a wild boar! A big wild boar!"
His voice echoed through the mountains and forests. Soon, the shouts from afar grew closer, accompanied by hurried footsteps and the rustling of branches being parted.
The wild boar king seemed to sense the danger as well. It stopped ramming the tree, pricked up its ears warily, and sniffed the air incessantly.
Seeing this, Wu Ermaitai shouted even more enthusiastically.
"Come quick! The wild boar is running away!"
A moment later, the bushes were cleared, and Su Jianjun was the first to rush out.
He was holding Old Master Su's double-barreled shotgun in his hand.
Behind him followed a dozen or so villagers, some carrying hoes, some holding shovels, and others carrying machetes, all looking tense.
"Jianjun! Here! In the tree!"
Wu Ermaitai waved his arms and shouted excitedly.
Su Jianjun spotted the enormous thing under the tree at a glance and couldn't help but gasp.
That wild boar was twice the size of an ordinary wild boar, with black hair standing on end like steel needles, and a pair of curved tusks as long as a forearm. Most horrifying of all was the wound on its head, through which brain tissue was faintly visible under a transparent membrane.
"It's it! The wild boar king that ran away that day!"
Su Jianjun cried out and immediately raised his hunting rifle to aim.
Seeing that things were not going well, the wild boar king turned around and tried to run away.
Su Jianjun pulled the trigger without hesitation.
With a loud bang, the bullet whistled through the air and struck the wild boar king squarely in the abdomen.
"Ouch!"
The wild boar king let out a mournful howl, staggered a few steps, but quickly regained its balance and disappeared into the depths of the dense forest without looking back, leaving behind only a shocking trail of blood.
"He wasn't killed!"
Su Jianjun stomped his foot in frustration and quickly loaded a second bullet, but the wild boar king had already vanished without a trace.
The villagers gathered around, chattering amongst themselves.
"My God, what kind of monster is that?"
"Is it a wild boar? How come it's so big?"
"What's that on its head? Its brains are all exposed, how can it still run?"
Seeing that the danger had passed, Wu Ermaitai nimbly climbed down from the tree. His trousers were tattered and hanging on his body, but he didn't care at all. He just excitedly danced around.
"You didn't see it? That beast almost killed me! Luckily, I was quick-witted and climbed a tree, then it couldn't do anything to me!"
Su Jianjun, however, was not as optimistic as him; his face was terribly gloomy.
"It's that wild boar king, the one that escaped from the canyon that day. It's back for revenge."
These words were like a bucket of cold water poured over everyone's heads, instantly freezing the lively atmosphere.
Everyone in the countryside knows that wild boars hold grudges, especially the king of wild boars that has become a spirit; once a feud is formed, it will never end.
Will it...will it come back for revenge?
A young villager asked, trembling.
Su Jianjun nodded heavily.
"Definitely. I'll never forget the way it looked at me just now. It wasn't the look of a wild beast; it was like...like a human's eyes, filled with hatred."
Wu Ermaitai then realized the seriousness of the problem and put away his joking face.
"What should we do then? What if it goes to the village and causes trouble..."
"We need to inform the whole village immediately."
Su Jianjun made a decisive decision.
"Starting today, no one is allowed to go out alone at night, and children must be picked up and dropped off at school. Also, patrols around the greenhouses need to be increased; that beast might try to damage them."
"Should we organize a force to go into the mountains and encircle and kill them?"
Someone made a suggestion.
Su Jianjun shook his head.
"It's too dangerous. That wild boar king can still run away after being shot; ordinary weapons can't hurt it. We need to think of another way."
He looked up at the sky.
"Let's go back to the village first and tell the old Party Secretary and my dad about this. We'll all work together to figure out a solution."
Everyone nodded in agreement, gathered up the scattered tools, looked around cautiously, and began to walk towards the village.
