Chapter 292 What if the car is hijacked?

Carrying snacks, He Wenlin and the others huddled together, trying to keep others away.

After leaving the market, the six of them quickly hailed three motorcycle taxis and went to the station, intending to take a minibus back to their hometown.

Upon arriving at the station, they randomly boarded a bus heading back to their hometown.

He Shan finally breathed a sigh of relief: "Now we should be safe, right?"

“Let’s all sit together.”

They all huddled together, taking up the last row of seats, making it difficult for pickpockets or thieves to make their move.

"The bus is about to leave, everyone sit down, come on, buy your tickets." The ticket seller came over with a bag on her back, a notebook and a pen in her hand.

Just as He Wenlin was about to take the money, she saw Huang Mao get on the bus, and there were two other people in the market whom she had seen before!

She didn't know if it was because she had too much money on her, so she found everyone suspicious, but she felt that the blond guy and those two didn't seem like good people.

What if they hijack the car?

The goods they brought today are at least four times that of yesterday, which means that they have at least nine thousand yuan in cash on them, if not ten thousand!

"Let's go! Get out of the car!" He Wenlin led them out of the car decisively!

"Where are you all going? Little sister, this is the last trip." The ticket seller called out as He Wenlin and the others got off the bus.

"Linlin, what's wrong?" Luo Guodong asked.

He Wenlin stared at the departing car until it was far away before saying, "I feel a little uneasy. I have a feeling that someone is following us. There were three people in that car just now. I saw them at the market. They didn't seem like good people."

Luo Yumei: "There are so many people on the bus, what's there to be afraid of? Do you think they would dare to rob us on the bus?"

He Wenlin had indeed never heard of any carjacking incidents in her hometown, but no one would carry tens of thousands of yuan in cash on a crowded minibus.

"What if they hijack our car? Or what if they follow us, just to find out where we live, and then proceed with their next plan?"

They were all teenagers with little experience, and they were all frightened when they heard He Wenlin's words.

"What should we do then? Aren't we going back tonight?" He Shan asked.

“If we don’t go back, my family will be worried sick. Besides, staying in a hotel isn’t necessarily safe,” He Wenlin said. “Let’s rent a car to go back. Dong-ge, Ya-tou-jie, you two go and flag down a taxi. We’ll charter a car back. The price can’t exceed thirty yuan.”

It's Chinese New Year now, so prices are usually a bit higher. That's how it is in my hometown, a small place; prices are all over the place.

He Wenlin bought two fruit knives from the small shop next door for self-defense, but she didn't let anyone else know, because they were still young and He Wenlin was worried that they might act impulsively.

A taxi can only seat five people, but He Wenlin's group, including her younger brother He Wenjun, made six. However, since no one checks for overloading these days, they squeezed into one taxi and went home.

They breathed a sigh of relief when they got home.

"Oh my god, I'm finally back!" Luo Yumei said. "I was almost scared to death on the way back."

Upon hearing this, Old Mrs. He sensed something was wrong and quickly asked, "What's wrong?"

“We might have run into a pickpocket gang in the county town, or maybe I’m just being paranoid,” He Wenlin said. “But everyone in the village knows we have a stall in the county town, and we do business in Shaoxing, so the surrounding villages must know that too. There are even rumors that we’ve made a fortune, so we have to be careful. It would be troublesome if a thief broke in the middle of the night.”

Their house is an old building, which is actually quite unsafe. While the windows are too big for people to get through, the doors still have wooden latches, making it easy for people to get in.

"Tonight, all five doors in the house must be barred with something, and everyone should be careful not to fall into a deep sleep."

“I installed a new lock today,” said Grandma He. “Unless they break down the door, they definitely can’t get in.”

Upon hearing this, He Wenlin quickly ran over to check, and sure enough, a new door lock had been installed!

"Grandma, you're so thoughtful!" He Wenlin gave a thumbs up.

"But we still can't let our guard down," said Grandma He. "It's safer to keep the money in the bank."

"I'll go deposit it first thing tomorrow morning."

With yesterday's money, He Wenlin now has over 10,000 yuan in cash, which she definitely needs to deposit for insurance.

I didn't go to deposit money today, mainly because I was too busy. I was so busy that I was completely overwhelmed, and by the time I remembered, the bank was already closed.

"Is anyone home, Da Ming?"

As they were talking, a strange male voice came from outside.

Grandma He opened the door: "It's Chunlai! What brings you here? Come in and have a glass of water."

Grandma He invited Xia Chunlai into the house.

"Auntie, hasn't Da Ming come back yet?" Xia Chunlai asked.

"Not yet. What do you need him for?"

"Actually, it's nothing, ma'am. I heard you two became big bosses in the Ming Dynasty."

"What big boss? He's got a mountain of debt. He can't compare to you."

“I’m nothing, Auntie. You think too highly of me. Since he’s not here, I’ll go back now and come back to wish you a Happy New Year in a couple of days.”

After saying that, Xia Chunlai got up and was about to leave.

"Have dinner here."

"No, ma'am, don't bother." Xia Chunlai waved and left.

“Before, when your dad borrowed money from him, he was afraid your dad wouldn’t be able to pay it back. Now, he’s come to our door on his own initiative and even said he’s here to wish us a Happy New Year.” Grandma He sighed. “People really need to have money. When you have money, you’re surrounded by friends. Listen to how sweetly he calls you ‘Auntie’.”

Xia Chunlai worked at the rural credit cooperative. In the days before bank cards were widespread, people who worked away from home would send money back to their hometowns through him.

He also has a lending business.

He Wenlin guessed that he must have come for deposit and loan business.
