Chapter 145 Eating Snake Soup

The Party Secretary “........”

"Little Ma, the organization is facing difficulties right now. I've already brought up the issue of oxen, but there are too few oxen available. Why don't you wait a little longer?"

“Secretary, you know that Mushroom Village relies on Uncle San’s old ox for deep plowing and tilling, but that ox is almost thirty years old, and Uncle San has refused to rent it out since last year.” Village Chief Ma was also worried.

"Then I'll go and check it out again today. You should organize the manpower to set up the educated youth settlement and make it bigger. I reckon there will be a second and third batch." The village secretary said and then left.

Village Chief Ma: "......"

besides"......"

The villagers were in high spirits. Some were felling trees, some were digging foundations, some were cooking, and even a basket of wild vegetables was counted as half a centimeter.

Yan Xiaonan, Yan Xiaobei, Ma Mingyuan, Ma Mingchun, Ma Minghua and a group of other children also joined the ranks of those earning work points.

They were carrying baskets on their backs and small machetes in their hands, bending over to either dig for wild vegetables or gather firewood.

Don't underestimate these kids; they can earn two or three centimeters every day.

Ma Minghua is a year older than Yan Xiaonan, and the two get along very well. Ma Mingchun claims to be protecting his younger sister, but his eyes are always fixed on Yan Xiaonan.

Ma Mingyuan made a bet with Bei Nan that if the two girls fell down at the same time, Ma Mingchun would definitely be the first to help Yan Xiaonan up.

However, their bet was completely invalidated. Ma Minghua screamed because there was a snake in the wild, staring intently at her.

Yan Xiaonan picked up a dry branch and lashed it at the snake. It was a green snake, not venomous, but a bite from it would still be quite painful.

The green snake had grown quite large, and Yan Xiaonan wanted to make snake soup, so she dropped the dry branch she was holding and found a thicker branch instead.

Cai She's attention was focused on Ma Minghua, so she never expected someone to suddenly appear from the side.

By the time the snake turned its head, Yan Xiaonan's branch had already struck it.

Just as the snake was about to explode in anger, it suddenly felt weak all over. It turned out that Yan Xiaonan had firmly held its vital spot in his hand.

The group of children, including Bei Nan, were all speechless. They had never imagined that such an incredibly beautiful girl would catch snakes.

All the children are overturning their own views. Yan Xiaonan is not a little girl, not a warm-hearted girl, but a tomboy.

Ma Mingchun's eyes lit up even more. This kind of girl is the real deal, unlike his younger sister, who cries all the time and it's so annoying to look at.

Yan Beinan hung the snake on a tree. They planned to skin and gut it, clean it, and then stew it into soup.

Ma Mingchun went home to get a clay pot and bowls and chopsticks, Ma Minghua and Yan Xiaonan collected dead branches and tree trunks, and Ma Mingyuan set up a simple frame. Everyone had a clear division of labor.

The fire was lit, the water was boiling, and the snake was cut into pieces. Yan Xiaonan took out salt and other seasonings from his pocket and put them all into the casserole.

Since the snake soup required a long cooking time, Yan Xiaonan and Ma Mingchun were in charge of watching the fire while the others continued to earn work points.

Yan Xiaonan told Ma Minghua to watch the fire while she ran home to get some steamed buns; she figured she'd have lunch out.

When Grandma Yan learned that Yan Xiaonan had caught a snake and that the group had made snake soup for lunch, she sighed inwardly, thinking that her granddaughter was too bold.

The aroma of snake soup wafted all the way to where houses were being built in the village. The women couldn't sit still any longer; they wanted to see what smelled so good.

Then I saw several children, each holding a steamed bun in one hand and a bowl of soup in the other, drinking it.

A woman rushed forward, trying to snatch the clay pot hanging on the branch. She could clearly see that there was still half a pot of soup in it.

Yan Xiaonan had already sensed someone coming, and upon closer inspection, she realized it was none other than Liu Sanniang, who was fearless and unafraid of death or being beaten.

Yan Xiaonan stood up and kicked Liu Sanniang as she lunged at him.

This kick used about 50% of its force, and Liu Sanniang was unsurprisingly sent flying.

Everyone's worldview began to change again; it turned out that Yan Xiaonan was a natural-born superhuman.

Liu San Niang's stomach was in excruciating pain from the kicks, and she couldn't even muster the strength to curse, let alone fight.

Yan Xiaonan didn't even glance at her, and sat down to continue eating his steamed buns and drinking his snake soup.

When Bei Nan saw this, he followed suit and ate his soup and steamed buns without worry. He knew that if he got into a fight, his dad might beat him, but if Nan Nan got into a fight, his dad would beat the other person.

Upon seeing this, Ma Mingyuan and the others sat down as well. This Liu Sanniang would run away as soon as her father arrived and glared at her.

Liu Sanniang finally caught her breath, struggled to her feet, and walked step by step to sit down next to Yan Xiaonan.

"Nan Nan, your aunt was wrong. I shouldn't have taken your things. But you kicked too hard. Give your aunt a bowl of soup to help her recover."

Yan Xiaonan smiled. She liked Liu Sanniang's personality very much. She found an empty bowl and handed it to her: "Help yourself."

Liu San Niang exclaimed "Ai!" and picked up the bowl to ladle the soup. "Tsk tsk tsk, how delicious it is!"

After finishing the entire bowl of soup, Liu San Niang wiped her mouth with her sleeve with satisfaction: "Nan Nan, what kind of soup is this? It's so delicious!"

Yan Xiaonan replied, "Aunt Liu, it's snake soup that we caught."

With a clatter, the bowl in Liu San Niang's hand fell to the ground and shattered. Then, Liu San Niang grabbed her own throat and ran to the side.

Soon, an indescribable smell wafted everywhere on the wind, and Liu San Niang vomited violently. Judging from the way she vomited, she probably brought up everything that hadn't been digested three days ago.

The group of old women following behind Liu Sanniang watched with great interest. This young girl from the Yan family was formidable; she had really put Liu Sanniang in a terrible situation.

Yan Xiaonan expressed her innocence.

But no one believed it, because everyone in the village knew that Liu San Niang was terrified of snakes to death.

Yan Xiaonan felt even more aggrieved; she really didn't know!

Bei Nan also began to admire Yan Xiaonan. His younger sister was only eight years old, but she was not only good at fighting, but also good at playing pranks.

Ma Minghua hugged Yan Xiaonan tightly: "Nannan, I'll follow you every day from now on, and I'll do whatever you do."

Yan Xiaonan glanced at Ma Mingyuan, who then touched his nose.

He understood Yan Xiaonan's meaning: she wanted him to quickly take his younger sister back home.

But he knew his own sister was a stubborn and troublesome person, and unfortunately, she was his most precious treasure.

He shrugged his shoulders, indicating that he was powerless to do anything about it.

Yan Xiaonan's gaze then fell on Ma Mingchun, who quickly stood up and said, "I'm full, I'm going to dig for wild vegetables."

He picked up his machete and basket, and left without looking back.

Bei Nan was secretly laughing to herself. Now that she had a troublemaker by her side, she wondered what Bei Nan would do this time.
