Yan Xiaoqiang was very pleased; his children had finally grown up and could help with household chores.
He took out the bicycle keys and handed them to Southwest: "Be careful on the road, don't fall off the bike, and don't break your lunchbox either."
Yan Xiaonan laughed. Her dad was so cute. He probably added the last sentence because he was too embarrassed.
"Second sister-in-law, why don't you stay home and cook and deliver meals today?" Yan Xiaonan suggested.
Tang Xiaoling shook her head, "How can that be? Nan Nan, you're still young, you should stay at home."
Yan Xiaonan also shook her head. She had already mastered the technique yesterday, and today was the day to put it to use. She couldn't let it go to waste.
Tang Xiaoling looked at Yan Xiaonan's determined eyes and nodded helplessly, but she was very touched. This sister-in-law was too good.
Ye Chen'er stared blankly at the drastically reduced number of people in the Yan family: "Nan Nan, where are the rest of your family?"
"My sister-in-law gave birth. My mom and eldest brother went to the hospital, and my second brother went to deliver food. He'll be there soon. My second sister-in-law is at home cooking and preparing food." Yan Xiaonan reported in one breath.
Ye Chen'er had some reservations about Yan's second sister-in-law. Even if it was cooking, it should be Nan Nan who did it. What was she doing hiding at home like that?
Yan Xiaonan and Tang Xiaoling were unaware of Ye Chen'er's misunderstanding; otherwise, they would have definitely protested their innocence.
Southwest pedaled his bicycle back home: "Grandma, Grandma, my sister-in-law gave birth to a big, healthy boy, weighing six pounds!"
Grandma Yan was thrilled. Six pounds! What a big, chubby boy!
He ran to the kitchen, washed the pig's trotters, and put them on the stove to stew: "Southwest, has Xuemei said when she's coming back?"
"Yes, I'll be back first thing tomorrow morning. My older brother will come back later to help with the work, and I'll bring the food over in the late afternoon." Southwest also ran into the kitchen to wash the lunchbox.
Seeing Tang Xiaoling chopping vegetables, he paused for a moment and asked, "Xiaoling, what are you doing here?"
Tang Xiaoling quickly told Xinan about her conversation with Nan Nan, feeling a little uneasy, hoping that Xinan wouldn't misunderstand.
Southwest didn't misunderstand; she knew her younger sister's temper. But for some reason, she felt a pang of heartache; Nan Nan was still so young.
"Grandma, I'm going to the fields." Southwest took off running.
Tang Xiaoling felt a little sad; she really wasn't being lazy.
Grandma Yan patted Tang Xiaoling: "Girl, don't mind him. Since they were little, Southwest has always treasured Nannan the most. He's probably going to try and take Nannan's job."
Tang Xiaoling nodded. Nan Nan is good and deserves everyone's love. With her worries at ease, Tang Xiaoling started chopping vegetables, planning to clean the pigsty after delivering the food and then cook dinner.
When Grandma Yan saw Tang Xiaoling's appearance, she admired her and thought to herself, "She's a very generous child. Xuemei gave birth to a big, healthy boy weighing six pounds. Xiaoling, you'd better work harder!"
Tang Xiaoling nodded vigorously; it was time to have a child.
When Southwest arrived at the field, everyone was working enthusiastically.
"Nan Nan, hurry back, it'll get hot when the sun comes out." Southwest wanted to send Yan Xiaonan back; she had already experienced it yesterday, so there was no need to experience it again.
Yan Xiaonan was unwilling; his divine power was equivalent to that of two Southwest Chinas.
"Second brother, what did your sister-in-law give birth to?" Yan Xiaonan asked.
"She gave birth to a big, healthy boy, weighing six pounds." Southwest was still a little envious, but unfortunately, Tang Xiaoling's belly showed no signs of pregnancy.
Seeing that Yan Xiaonan refused to leave, Southwest had no choice but to pick up his sickle and work as hard as he could, hoping that if he did more, Xiaonan would have less to do.
Not long after, Dongnan arrived. Having just become a father, Dongnan was full of energy and worked incredibly fast.
Bei Nan, seeing that he was a grown man himself, couldn't possibly lose to his two older brothers, so he also began to swing his sickle with all his might.
Yan Xiaonan couldn't help but feel competitive and started swinging the sickle in his hand.
Yan Xiaoqiang was in a bind. He put all his strength into trying to catch up with Yan Xiaonan's speed, but with a single swing of her scythe, everyone fell to the ground. Well, there was no point in chasing her anymore.
The three south-facing creatures, from east to west and north, went from astonishment to resentment. The consequence of their resentment was that they collapsed on the ground from exhaustion, while Yan Xiaonan was still scribbling away.
It wasn't until Tang Xiaoling brought the food that she realized it was already midday, and she quickly called Yan Xiaonan to eat.
Tang Xiaoling's cooking really wasn't as good as Cuihua's. Yan Xiaonan knew it was because Tang Xiaoling was reluctant to use oil.
But Tang Xiaoling couldn't be blamed. Her mother was very careful. The oil bottle in the kitchen was always empty, and the rice container was always empty of white rice and flour. However, the two rice bags were full of cornmeal and corn flour. People who didn't know the Yan family would definitely think that this family lived a hard life.
Bei Nan felt uncomfortable. There was a big difference between yesterday and today. Yan Xiaonan observed his father's expression and realized that he seemed to understand the reason. He picked up his rice bowl and started eating.
She quickly leaned close to Bei Nan's ear and said, "Second sister-in-law probably doesn't know where Mom put the things. It'll be fine when Mom comes back."
Bei Nan nodded. That's true. Second Sister-in-law separated from the family after marrying in, so she certainly wouldn't know where the family's things were. The misunderstanding was thus resolved.
In the late afternoon, Bei Nan urged Dong Nan to hurry up and deliver the food, as he wanted his mother to come back and cook dinner. Dong Nan, unaware of Bei Nan's thoughts, happily left, missing his son.
Cuihua was also worried about her family. She made sure they ate and drank well during the busy farming season, otherwise their health would suffer.
Fortunately, Southeast is coming soon, so I can still make it back to cook dinner. I know how Tang Xiaoling cooks; she's a stingy person, which won't do. My little daughter is working in the fields too.
After taking good care of Xuemei's food and drink, Cuihua hugged her eldest grandson and smiled so hard her eyes disappeared: "My grandson, you must grow up quickly!"
Southeast ladled out the pig's trotter soup and rice: "Xuemei, you must be hungry, hurry up and eat."
She then took out another lunchbox: "Mom, put the child on the bed, you eat first, don't go hungry."
Xuemei took a sip of the soup and said, "Southeast, this soup is made with milk, isn't it? It's so delicious."
Southeast picked up her son and said, "Grandma's cooking skills are top-notch."
Cuihua took a bite of rice and said, "Xiaoling cooked this rice, didn't she?"
Southeast nodded, saying the vegetables were overcooked and the meat was too tough.
Cuihua quickened her eating pace: "Xuemei, I have to rush back to cook for the children. I'll pick you up tomorrow morning."
Xuemei nodded: "Mom, you don't need to come tomorrow. The cart is downstairs."
Southeast took out the bicycle keys: "Mom, the bicycle is parked at the entrance of the hospital. I gave an old man a penny to watch the bike for me. I told him my mom would come to get the bike."
Upon hearing this, Cuihua quickly grabbed the keys. The bicycle was Qiangzi's precious possession, and it couldn't be damaged.
As soon as he reached the door, he spotted his own bicycle. The old man was shrewd; he recognized Cuihua immediately and knew that this woman was the mother of the man from earlier. He said happily, "Is this your bicycle? Hurry up and ride away, I'm so tired."
