Chapter 190 The Failure of the Self-Inflicted Injury Scheme

Bei Nan's eyes flickered slightly: "Grandma, I'll listen to you, don't worry."

Grandma Yan didn't see Bei Nan's look and thought her self-inflicted injury had succeeded, so she felt relieved.

Nine years? That's such a waste of time! Bei Nan was too anxious to accept it, but since Grandma had already said so, they had to be even more careful in their future actions. Besides, Grandma might be lying to herself about the nine years.

Yan Xiaonan's consciousness continued to permeate the two of them. Bei Nan's gaze did not escape Yan Xiaonan's notice. It seemed that she would have to talk to Ye Chenming and his sister.

Knowing the course of history, Yan Xiaonan felt a little anxious. This was only the beginning, and the days ahead would be even more tense. Once something really happened, there would be no time to regret it.

The picnic proceeded as planned, and everyone was extremely happy. Only Yan Xiaonan seemed preoccupied and somewhat absent-minded. Ye Chen'er, being perceptive, noticed the problem and quickly asked:

"Nan Nan, are you feeling unwell, or is something wrong?"

"Chen'er, do you believe what I'm saying? Even if it's absurd?" Yan Xiaonan asked.

Ye Chen'er wanted to say she didn't believe it. Knowing it was absurd, why make people believe it? That was just nonsense.

But a voice inside her told her that what Nan Nan said was absolutely true.

“I had a dream that Bei Nan and your brother were caught in the black market and then dragged out to be eaten with peanuts.” Yan Xiaonan spoke slowly, but very clearly.

Ye Chen'er's hand trembled, and the pheasant leg fell to the ground. Her heart pounded wildly, and her eyes were filled with fear as she looked at Yan Xiaonan.

"Nan Nan, Nan Nan, don't scare me." The voice was trembling.

Yan Xiaonan shook her head, but silently prayed to herself, "I didn't scare you, I really didn't scare you."

That evening, Ye Chen'er took Ye Chenming to the school and told him what Yan Xiaonan had said: "Brother, don't go. We finally managed to hide here. What will Grandpa and Grandma do if something happens?"

Ye Chenming frowned deeply and couldn't help but take out the letter his father had sent. The word "wait" formed by the straw hat and raincoat was like a bucket of cold water poured on him, extinguishing Ye Chenming's blind confidence in his success and sobering him up.

The father's meaning was very clear: he wanted the child to wait here until dawn. If anything happened to the child, all of the father's efforts would be in vain.

Ye Chenming let out a breath and stroked Ye Chen'er's hair: "Chen'er, I understand. Go thank Nan Nan tomorrow. She saved me."

Yan Xiaonan started having nightmares when he got home that night, which terrified the whole family. No one could wake him up. His grandmother was so anxious that she shed tears, Cuihua was sobbing uncontrollably, and Yan Xiaoqiang was jumping up and down in a panic.

Xuemei stood anxiously to the side, holding her child, but the child was sleeping soundly and was not affected at all.

In the southwest, they tried every method imaginable, including hot and cold towels, but nothing worked.

Bei Nan was also worried, so he gritted his teeth and went up to push Yan Xiaonan, hoping to wake him up. He was on tenterhooks as he pushed, afraid that his father would kick him out.

Yan Xiaonan's consciousness was focused on him. When he pushed her, Yan Xiaonan jumped up: "Third Brother, run! Someone's coming to get you!"

Upon hearing this, Grandma Yan wanted nothing more than to grab Yan Xiaonan and spank him. This little rascal was just trying to scare Bei Nan; all those tears she shed earlier were for nothing.

No one else knew why Nan Nan was trying to capture Bei Nan in her dream, but everyone was relieved when Yan Xiao Nan woke up. Grandma Yan told everyone to go to sleep, as it was the middle of the night and disturbing their peaceful dreams.

But Yan Xiaonan didn't care. She grabbed Bei Nan's hand and kept urging Bei Nan to run away quickly.

Bei Nan was stunned. What was going on? But a few seconds later, Bei Nan laughed.

Yan Xiaonan lowered her head; her acting had gone too far, and her self-inflicted injury scheme had failed.

Bei Nan has been cunning since childhood. Yan Xiaonan has never studied acting, and her attempt to act immediately gave her away. With just one sentence, Bei Nan saw through Yan Xiaonan's intentions.

Bei Nan tidied Yan Xiaonan's somewhat disheveled hair: "Nan Nan, your third brother knows your heart. You don't need to worry. Your third brother won't go. You really don't need to worry."

The next morning, Southwest arrived early, still worried about Yan Xiaonan.

Yan Xiaonan hugged Southwest's arm: "Second brother, I'm worried about third brother."

The Southwest was a bit confused. Why was the North and South worried? This guy was shrewd. Even if he sold you out, you'd still have to count the money for him.

Yan Xiaonan was not so at ease; a weight remained on her mind.

At lunchtime, Ye Chen'er came to find Yan Xiaonan, and the two went outside to whisper: "Nannan, my brother has already talked to Beinan, and from now on they will secretly send some wild game to Master Pang's place, and they will not go to the black market anymore."

"What did my brother say?" Yan Xiaonan asked anxiously.

"Your brother agreed too, and they've gone up the mountain to hunt wild game." Ye Chen'er's mood was also somewhat heavy.

Three former educated youths came yesterday, and Ye Chen'er learned some things about the outside world from their conversation. Now Ye Chen'er is particularly worried about her grandparents.

The educated youth settlement is not peaceful now. The newly arrived educated youth are a bit excited. They recite poems, discuss life, and dream about the future every day in the room. In their minds, the world is vast, but they are the greatest.

Furthermore, they believed that Liu Limin and Ye Chen'er should be doing the hardest labor here, instead of being teachers. Li Ping and Li Qiang chimed in with their support, which made Liu Limin so angry that he wanted to hit them with a hoe.

Tian Fang gave a cold laugh: "Then how about you few take the positions?"

The newly arrived female educated youth, surnamed Pan and named Gaozhi, quickly replied with a smile, "That was the most correct choice you made."

The two newly arrived male educated youths echoed this sentiment, saying that this arrangement was the most reasonable.

"Damn, so he's just jealous," Tian Fang sneered. Wang Yan nodded in agreement: "I think one of you would be suitable to be the village chief, and the other would be suitable to be the accountant."

Without comparison, there is no harm. Compared to Pan Gaozhi, Wang Yan is really much better. It's a good thing Ye Chen'er moved in; otherwise, it would have been a disaster.

Nothing happened that night. The next morning, while it was still dark, Ye Chenming and his sister, along with Liu Limin, went to work in the fields after breakfast. Tian Fang and Wang Yan followed closely behind. In the hot summer, they had to avoid the scorching sun and start work early, a practice they had learned from the local villagers.

Li Qiang handed three hoes to the new educated youth: "Let's go, it's time to work, let's go weed."

The three men stared in disbelief: "We came here to develop the countryside, and you want us to remove weeds? Are you out of your mind?"

Li Qiang was speechless. This scene was all too familiar. A year of rural life had taught them that, no matter what, having enough to eat and wear was the most important thing they needed to do.
