Neutron ran out happily, heading towards the town. After running back and forth several times without seeing Yan Xiaoqiang, it found a haystack, climbed up it, and hid inside to watch out.
Just as it was about to fall asleep, it heard a faint sound. Its ears twitched, and it quickly climbed out of the haystack and ran towards the sound. Sure enough, it was Yan Xiaoqiang and his group. Zhongzi happily ran home.
Upon hearing Zhongzi's voice, Yan Xiaonan released his consciousness and indeed saw two people sitting on the oxcart: one was Ma Mingchun, and the other should be his uncle's youngest son, Ai Dang.
Four people were pushing an oxcart on both sides. The one in military uniform must be my uncle and his bodyguard. Yan Xiaonan told Grandma Yan what she had seen, and Grandma Yan was excited.
"Cuihua, Cuihua, Xuemei, Xiaoling, your uncle is back, get ready quickly."
Hearing Grandma Yan's call, everyone came out of the kitchen. Xiaoling wondered how Grandma knew, but wisely didn't ask and quickly went back to the kitchen to prepare hot water.
Southwest opened the courtyard gate and stood at the entrance, gazing into the distance. Grandma said that Uncle had returned, so Uncle must have returned. A few minutes later, the figure of the ox appeared in their sight, and Southwest shouted, "Grandma, Uncle is back!"
Yan Xiaonan quickly put on her thick cotton-padded coat, helped her grandmother put on a wool scarf, and supported her excited grandmother as she ran out of the courtyard gate, standing at the front to wait for the oxcart to arrive.
Yan Daqiang had already abandoned the oxcart. A soldier's eyes are always the sharpest. He knew it was his mother as soon as he saw her. In such heavy snow and such cold weather, how could he let his mother stand at the door waiting for him? That would be too disrespectful.
Ignoring how deep the snow was underfoot, Yan Daqiang quickened his pace and finally reached Grandma Yan. He hugged her tightly, tears welling in his eyes, and said, "Mom, I'm back. I've come back to see you."
Grandma Yan's tears also flowed down her cheeks. Yan Xiaonan was anxious. If she cried out here, her tears would freeze in no time, and then Grandma's face would hurt. "Grandma, Uncle, come inside quickly. It's too cold outside."
Yan Daqiang turned around when he heard the voice and exclaimed in surprise, "Little girl, you've grown so tall in just a few years! You really have changed a lot as you grow up!"
When Yan Xiaonan was mentioned, Grandma Yan's sadness subsided considerably. She quickly grabbed her eldest son with one hand and her beloved granddaughter with the other and led them into the main room. It was so cold outside; even standing there for just a short time made her bones feel cold.
After brushing the snow off his clothes at the door, he went into the main room. A warm atmosphere greeted him. Yan Xiaoqiang knew that Nan Nan's immortal power had been restored, and he happily discussed with her whether they could go into the mountains to chop firewood.
With a large family this year, they needed to stock up on firewood. Yan Xiaonan secretly took her father to the mountains and stored all the timber and dead branches that could be cut into their space. The two of them very generously left the easily cut firewood to the villagers, while they themselves went into the mountains, since the villagers dared not go into the mountains.
Yan Xiaoqiang went to town and bought several water vats, which his daughter put in her spatial storage. Whenever she had free time, she would go to the well to fetch water until all the vats were full. When it got cold, she would try to minimize the number of times she went out.
Cuihua knew her daughter's abilities, so the thermos flasks in the house were always full of hot water, and every room had a heated kang bed, so soft that people didn't want to leave.
Upon entering the main room, Yan Daqiang's military overcoat was no longer fit, and his whole body was starting to feel hot. Yan Xiaonan obediently took the overcoat and put it in what used to be Southeast's room, then her own room, and now her uncle's room.
Xuemei carried a basin full of hot water and a brand-new towel to the kang (heated brick bed), then went back to the kitchen to bring out a few more, but Yan Daqiang stopped her: "Xuemei, don't bother. Let them wash in the kitchen themselves. They're not rich landlords. We don't believe in such things."
Tang Xiaoling also came out carrying a tray. As soon as Yan Daqiang saw Tang Xiaoling, he asked with a smile, "You must be Southwest's wife. Southwest is a good boy. You should live a good life with him."
Tang Xiaoling called out "Uncle" and thought to herself, "Uncle really is a good person. Sister Xuemei didn't lie to me."
There were several cups of malted milk powder on the tray. Yan Xiaoqiang picked up a cup and shoved it into Grandma Yan's hand: "Mom, drink up, I brought a lot this time." After saying that, he picked up a cup himself and gulped it down.
Liu Jin, standing nearby, stared in disbelief. His family always drank malted milk powder slowly, sip by sip; who drinks it like this? He couldn't help but ask, "Auntie, Auntie, is he a cow?"
Luckily, Yan Daqiang finished his cup of malted milk powder, otherwise he would have choked to death by the little guy. He put down his cup and looked at the little guy sitting next to Yan Xiaonan. He was really good-looking. He might not be as good-looking as Nan Nan, but he was definitely the best among the boys in the family.
His interest was piqued: "Come here, let the cow hug you, okay?"
Everyone burst into laughter. This uncle was too funny. Liu Jin quickly got up and hid behind Yan Xiaonan: "Auntie, I don't want to be hugged by a cow."
Yan Xiaoqiang, Dongnan, Xinan, Ai Dang, and the guards were all moving things. Ma Mingchun hurriedly gave the ox water and grass, saying that the calf had worked hard today and needed to be fed more.
Southeast took out fifty cents and gave it to Ma Mingchun, but Ma Mingchun quickly shook his head and refused, saying, "Brother Southeast, I've already eaten a bowl of your noodles, how can I take your money?"
Southeast stuffed the money into Ma Mingchun's hand: "Take it. How can you work without getting paid? You'd be crazy."
Ma Mingchun was overjoyed. The Yan family was so kind. No wonder his father wanted him, his older brother, and his younger sister to associate with the Yan family more often. He carefully put the 50 cents into his pocket. This was the largest sum of money he had ever received.
Several people ran in and consciously went to the kitchen to wash their faces and hands. The warm water made them feel warm all over. Yan Aidang ran up to Grandma Yan and shouted loudly, "Grandma, I am Yan Aidang, your own grandson."
Seeing Ai Dang, who looked just like Bei Nan, Grandma Yan's eyes welled up with tears, but she kept cheering with joy. Yan Xiao Nan quickly took out a handkerchief to wipe away her tears.
Ai Dang's eyes lit up. Ever since her mother saw her little cousin's photo, she had dreamed of having such a beautiful baby girl. Unfortunately, they waited until now but never got to have one. Her little cousin has grown up and is incredibly beautiful. Ai Dang is very proud.
Southwest is jealous! What are you so proud of about my sister? If you're so capable, have your mom give birth to one for you. You want to steal my sister? Don't even mention the door, I won't open a window for you.
Yan Aidang was also a perceptive person. He sensed Southwest's jealousy. He originally wanted to tease Southwest, but then he remembered that his father had said that Southwest was the most honest child in his uncle's family, so he gave up the idea.
