Chapter 226 Someone is spreading rumors

Ye Chenming nodded and bowed to Yan Aidang: "Thank you for saving my sister. I am unable to repay you now, but I will definitely do so in the future."

Yan Aidang was startled and quickly jumped away to avoid Ye Chenming's bow. It was just a small favor; how could he let someone repay him?

Ye Chen'er found it amusing to watch the two men exchanging pleasantries. If Nan Nan were here, she would definitely roll her eyes.

Now that Ye Chenming has arrived, Yan Aidang has completed his mission. Unfortunately, the train to Beijing won't arrive for another two days, so they'll have to stay here for a couple more days.

However, there is a train back to Mushroom Village tomorrow, so Ye Chenming suggested that they stay at the hospital for another day to avoid having to look for a guesthouse again.

Yan Aidang nodded. Running around is indeed troublesome, but if there are enough hospital beds, it's negotiable.

Ye Chen'er suggested treating Yan Aidang to dinner that evening, and Ye Chenming readily agreed. The three of them found a state-run restaurant and originally wanted to order more dishes, but unfortunately there were restrictions.

Each person can only order two dishes. Ye Chenming ordered braised pork, steamed fish, stir-fried pork skin with cabbage, chicken soup, steamed egg custard, and white rice, plus a serving of dumplings.

Yan Aidang was worried that Ye Chenming and Ye Chen'er didn't have enough money, so she deliberately rushed to the front of the line, but Ye Chenming was unwilling to do so.

If Yan Aidang has to pay for this meal, he might as well give up on being a human being. Ye Chen'er simply pulled Yan Aidang to find a seat.

The window called their number, and the three of them had to run back and forth twice to get all the food. Ye Chen'er raised her rice bowl and said, "Brother Ai Dang, let's toast you with this rice instead of wine."

Ye Chenming quickly filled a bowl with rice and pushed the dumplings in front of Yan Aidang: "Brother Aidang, you're older than me, so I'll just call you brother. I won't say much more about thanking you, just toast to you."

Yan Aidang smiled as he looked at the dumplings pushed in front of him. These two really knew him well. He picked up the large bowl of dumplings and clinked it against theirs: "I'm hungry, let's eat."

Nothing more was said that night. The next day, Ye Chenming settled the medical expenses and took Ye Chen'er on the train back home.

Yan Aidang watched the train slowly start moving and said to Ye Chen'er, who was sticking her head out, "Write to me when you have time."

Ye Chen'er nodded repeatedly: "I'll write to you when I have good news."

Ye Chenming was puzzled. What good news was it? Ye Chen'er told him that Yan Aidang didn't have a girlfriend and asked him to introduce her to someone.

Ye Chenming lowered his head and remained silent. As for finding a partner, he and his sister probably couldn't do so for the time being. Even if they liked someone, they wouldn't dare to get involved, as it would harm that person. It was all because of his family's questionable background.

Two days later, the two returned to Mushroom Village. Zhongzi had been keeping a close eye on their movements, and whenever he saw them, he would run home to deliver the message.

Yan Xiaonan ran out and burst into tears when she saw Ye Chen'er: "Sister Chen'er, I'm sorry, I've dragged you into this."

Ye Chen'er got angry: "Nan Nan, if you say such things again, we can't be friends anymore. This is my tribulation, so I'll just accept it."

Grandma Yan and Cuihua also ran out. Cuihua, in particular, felt it was a sin to let a little girl suffer innocently.

"Chen'er, I've cooked a lot of food. Why don't you eat it before you go back?"

Ye Chen'er was a little embarrassed; it wouldn't be right to eat someone's meal for no reason. Ye Chenming generously agreed.

Sometimes, a meal can make someone feel better, so why not?

After the meal, Ye Chenming and his sister went to the village chief's house to report back from work. When the village chief saw Ye Chen'er, he quickly comforted her, "My daughter has suffered. We have already received news from the Public Security Bureau. Fortunately, Yan Daqiang is here."

Ye Chenming nodded repeatedly. If they hadn't been on a train, or if Yan Ai hadn't discovered the problem, his sister would definitely have been doomed.

"Those damned flower sellers! The captain of the Public Security Bureau has already come over. They're going to take over this case over there. I heard they're going to have peanuts with them," said Ma Da Sao bluntly.

Ye Chenming didn't want to talk about this kind of thing, after all, it wasn't a good thing. He smiled and said, "Then, Uncle Village Chief, Auntie, we'll go back first."

"Go back, go back, get some rest, and you'll be at work tomorrow," the village chief said understandingly, waving his hand.

On the way back to the educated youth settlement, the villagers pointed and whispered about Ye Chen'er, and Ye Chen'er's heart sank.

Ye Chenming walked over: "Auntie, are you talking about my sister?"

The village women were a little embarrassed, as the two children were usually quite likable: "Was your sister abused by a conman? Poor thing."

Ye Chenming shook his head: "Auntie, who told you that?"

"Did this come from your educated youth settlement?" A village woman pointed in the direction of the educated youth settlement.

Ye Chenming suppressed his anger and explained, "Auntie, my sister is innocent. She was rescued on the train by Yan's eldest son, Nan Nan's uncle and cousin."

The village women immediately realized they had been deceived. Who was Yan Daqiang? He was the pride of Mushroom Village.

His son, Yan Aidang, even donated a lot of money to help his family rebuild their home. How could the people they saved possibly be innocent?

The village women began to direct their anger at the people spreading rumors at the educated youth settlement, vowing to drown them in their spittle whenever such a person came forward.

In the educated youth settlement, Li Ping and Li Qiang were chatting, and they became quite animated as they talked.

Ye Chen'er should either not come back, or she'll be cursed to death by these ignorant villagers.

Li Ping even wondered what would happen if Ye Chen'er were sold to a remote mountain village, perhaps to an old, ugly, and poor man.

If this poor man were a pervert, would Ye Chen'er turn into an ugly peasant woman? The more she thought about it, the more beautiful it seemed, until Tian Fang's surprised voice shattered her dream.

"Chen'er, you're back! That's wonderful! Ye Chenming is amazing!"

"Thank you, Tian Fang. It was Nan Nan's uncle who saved me. We were on the same train," Ye Chen'er explained simply.

Wang Yan was also happy for Ye Chen'er's return: "Ye Chen'er, while you were away, I helped you air out all the blankets and stuff so you could sleep well when you came back."

Ye Chen'er hugged Wang Yan: "Thank you, Yanzi, it's so good to have you."

The other male educated youths gathered around, and when they learned that the womanizer had been caught, they all clapped and cheered.

Liu Limin even suggested that Ye Chen'er write a thank-you letter to Yan Aidang, what a good comrade!

Ye Chenming and his sister's eyes lit up; this was indeed a good suggestion.

Li Ping and Li Qiang hadn't expected Ye Chen'er to return so quickly, so they had no choice but to bite the bullet and come out.

"Chen'er, you're back. Did you get what you deserve?"

When Ye Chenming saw the two of them, his face darkened. They must be the ones spreading rumors, judging from that vicious remark.

Ye Chen'er said coldly, "Li Ping, apart from the time I suffered a loss at your hands, I haven't really suffered any losses. You'd better be careful. Those who do many evil deeds will surely perish."
