Li Qiang was restless on the train. It would take many days to get to Guangzhou, and the stolen food he had would only last for two days at most. He could buy more, but things on the train were ridiculously expensive. How could he possibly make it to his destination with so little money?
His eyes kept darting around, and he kept moving around the train, from one carriage to the next. He managed to take quite a few things with him, especially those students who had been admitted to universities. Their attention was focused on discussing the future and life, and they had no idea that the clothes hanging by the window or the teacup on the table were gone.
By the time they realized what was happening, Li Qiang had already used the money from their pockets to buy shredded pork noodles, which he then put in their teacups and was happily munching away.
They went to the train staff, who then led them to search each carriage. But think about it: would someone who steals your things bring them out in the open? Besides, there are plenty of identical clothes and identical teacups. How can you prove this one is yours?
Chaos broke out in the carriage. Everyone had their own reasons, and the train conductor had no good solution. Li Qiang, however, managed to make a quick buck during the chaos. He went to the toilet, counted his money, and figured it was enough to get him to his destination before stopping.
With that, the thief was nowhere to be found. The victims cursed and swore, wishing the thief would die young and have no descendants, but that had nothing to do with Li Qiang anymore. Li Qiang leaned against the small table and went to sleep, feeling smug.
Trying to control yourself? What a dream! All the good clothes are hidden under your padded jackets, while the bad ones have drifted away with the wind. And the tea mugs, they're printed with "Serve the People." How many "Serve the People" tea mugs are there on this train? And you didn't even carve your name on them.
When Yan Daqiang received the telegram from the Southwest, he happily called out Xue Ying's name repeatedly. Xue Ying sighed inwardly. As the saying goes, an ugly daughter-in-law always has to meet her parents-in-law. Now that her parents-in-law were coming, she should think about how to receive this wise old lady that her husband had mentioned.
I glanced at the small courtyard house. Upstairs, there were two bedrooms and a living room, which were given to Ai Dang and Ai Guo. Downstairs, there were two bedrooms and a living room, one for myself and Da Qiang, and a study. Ai Guo is currently in the army, so one of the upstairs rooms is empty.
The old lady is coming, and she and Nan Nan can stay in Aiguo's room upstairs. But where will Erqiang's family stay? And where will that little girl named Ye Chen'er stay? Xue Ying was a bit troubled.
Yan Daqiang laughed and said, "We both have rest rooms in the army. Our room is for my mother and Nannan. Aiguo's room is for Erqiang and Cuihua. Aidang will stay in the study. We'll make room for Ye Chen'er."
Everyone agreed on this. Xue Ying prepared to clean the room and then go to the market to buy all the groceries. She was ready to cook as soon as she picked up the guests. Ai Dang was a little worried. He said that if his mother could eat the food she cooked, he would spank her face like it was his butt.
The boring train journey was finally coming to an end. When the train conductor announced over the loudspeaker that they would arrive in Beijing the next morning, everyone breathed a sigh of relief and hurriedly started packing their things. Sigh, train travel is so tiring.
Yan Xiaonan took a nap, then woke up in the middle of the night. Her consciousness spread out and landed on the old bachelor. In the pocket of his jacket, the phoenix hairpin was shining brightly. Yan Xiaonan tried to use her superpower to take the hairpin out, but unfortunately, her superpower was only effective on the land and plants and animals. She couldn't control the old bachelor, and there were a whole carload of people in there.
It seemed that Yan Xiaonan couldn't get the phoenix hairpin. She was a little frustrated. If only she could put the phoenix hairpin into her space all at once. Before she withdrew her consciousness, she wanted to take one last look at the phoenix hairpin, but her jacket pocket was empty. Where was the phoenix hairpin?
Yan Xiaonan was startled. She carefully recalled her actions just now, and her last thought was that she would be happy to put the phoenix hairpin into her space. With a thought, a phoenix hairpin appeared in her hand. With another movement, the phoenix hairpin disappeared and went into a space that she could not find.
"If this is possible, does that mean I can become a master thief?" Yan Xiaonan tried to take the ten-yuan note from Grandma Yan's pocket, but after silently repeating the number a dozen times, the ten-yuan note didn't budge.
Just as Yan Xiaonan was unable to grasp the pattern, the train finally arrived in Beijing. After half a month, when the train finally came to a stop, Yan Xiaoqiang rolled up the window and stuck his head out to look intently.
Finally, someone shouted "Qiangzi, Qiangzi!" Yan Xiaoqiang looked towards the source of the voice and saw a group of people outside. It was his elder brother, Yan Aidang, and Baoguo, with a middle-aged woman beside them. The woman was dressed fashionably and elegantly; she must be his elder brother's wife.
Yan Xiaonan helped her grandmother out of the car. When she saw her uncle, she greeted him sweetly. Her uncle smiled broadly, his eyes crinkling at the corners of his mouth. He patted Yan Xiaonan's hair and said, "Little girl, you've grown taller again. You did well on your test. I'll reward you later."
Then, looking at Grandma Yan, he said, "Mom, you must be tired. Taking the train is very tiring. Come with me later with Qiangzi, and I'll take you home."
Pointing to the woman next to him, he introduced her: "Mother, this is my wife Xue Ying. Wife, this is my mother. Nan Nan, the one carrying things is my younger brother Qiangzi. Next to him is his wife Cuihua. And the one behind her is your daughter-in-law Ye Chen'er."
Xue Ying looked at each person one by one as Yan Daqiang pointed. When he mentioned your daughter-in-law Ye Chen'er, her gaze paused. Yan Xiaonan's eyes didn't look at her, but his mind followed her.
She noticed Xue Ying's dismissive glance at Ye Chen'er and felt a little helpless. These women from the compound were used to being arrogant and judging people by their appearance or family background. But Ye Chen'er's family background wasn't bad either.
Xue Ying had a very keen sense of perception and felt like someone was watching her. She glanced around and Yan Xiaonan snapped out of his daze. "No wonder he's a soldier; he's very vigilant."
Xue Ying took Grandma Yan's hand and greeted her warmly, "Mom, how are you? Daqiang has been talking about you all this time. We've finally got you here. Come on, come on, let's go home. We've prepared food and a room for you."
Then she looked at Yan Xiaonan: "You must be Nannan, right? What a pretty girl! How about becoming my daughter?"
Yan Xiaonan replied with a bright smile, "Hello, Auntie. Thank you for taking care of us all these years. My uncle is so lucky to have found such a virtuous wife and loving mother."
Looking at her shrewd, polite yet assertive aunt, Yan Xiaonan wondered if her uncle had bought her a house. If not, she would have to buy one as soon as possible, or her future would be difficult.
Grandma Yan also sensed her eldest daughter-in-law's warm yet distant attitude, but she didn't take it to heart. She hadn't given birth to anyone, so being polite to her was enough. Did she expect her daughter-in-law to treat her like royalty?
