"Let's go to my house. You'll know the way, and Bei Nan will be able to find his way home when he comes back," Yan Xiaoqiang suggested.
Everyone agreed and followed Yan Xiaoqiang back to the courtyard house.
Ah Long fell in love with the courtyard house as soon as he saw it, imagining that he could live in one someday. He wondered if Ah Tie had managed to buy one.
Mao Tou wasn't interested in the courtyard house. His large estate in Vancouver and the vineyard he recently invested in were much bigger and more beautiful than this courtyard house. This courtyard house was only suitable for raising dogs and deer, while his own estate was a place where horses could run.
Cuihua was busy pouring tea, feeling anxious, but she still had to follow basic hospitality. Maotou didn't keep them in suspense and told them about Bei Nan's recent situation: "Grandma, Uncle and Aunt, Bei Nan is in Vancouver, doing well. He misses home, misses Grandma, misses his parents, misses Yan Xiaonan, but he just doesn't dare to go home."
Yan Xiaoqiang nodded. It was normal for Bei Nan to leave out of guilt and not dare to go home. But he wanted to make it clear that although his son had made a mistake, his parents, grandmother, and Nan Nan had long forgiven him. They just hoped that he would come home soon so that the whole family could be reunited.
Maotou was happy for Beinan. Beinan was truly blessed. When he returned, he would tell his uncle exactly what he had said, so that he would know that his family had long since forgiven him. Moreover, they still cared about him.
"Young man, how did you get to that place with the flowers?" Grandma Yan asked curiously.
“Grandma, it’s not a flower, it’s Vancouver, it’s a country. We’ve bought a house there now. When the time comes, Bei Nan will take you there to stay for a while and see the scenery.” Mao Tou smiled, Grandma is so cute.
“Tell me about what you’ve been doing all these years. I want to know,” Yan Xiaoqiang said.
Mao thought for a moment and decided that he absolutely couldn't talk about those bloody events. He picked out a few things to say, such as how they escaped from the county to Hong Kong Island, how they hitched a ride on a train, went out to sea, evaded capture, endured hunger and thirst, opened a mahjong parlor, did business, and how they arrived in Vancouver and started a new journey.
Mao Tou tried his best to hide the tense, dangerous lives they had led for so many years, only telling them tragic stories, such as not having food for days, having blisters on both feet from walking, and wearing only a thin layer of clothing in winter. Only by making it sound tragic could Bei Nan be less likely to be scolded when he went home.
Grandma Yan and Cuihua were moved to tears. Poor Bei Nan, poor Mao Tou, and poor Tie Ge. Oh, Mao Tou's cousin is also pitiful. He's been locked up for so many years before he finally got out.
Cuihua felt heartbroken. Her youngest son, though not very obedient, hadn't done anything particularly rebellious. Why was he so unlucky? The children, too, cried for a while, then finally wiped away their tears and stood up: "You can talk slowly. I'll go get something to eat. Please stay and eat."
"Auntie, thank you so much. I really miss your cooking. Oh, right, where's Nan Nan? Bei Nan has something to give her, and I have to give it to her myself." Mao Tou had eaten Cui Hua's cooking and snacks before, and he still remembered the taste.
"Nan Nan will be back soon. You two chat, I'll go and prepare some dishes." Cuihua's heart ached even more. Bei Nan was still thinking about home and Nan Nan.
Yan Xiaonan checked the time, locked all the drawings she had made that day into the tin cabinet, and happily went to find Southwest: "Second Brother, let's not work on anything today. Let's go back and cook early. I'll show off my skills today and make Grandma, Dad, and Mom happy."
Southwest's eyes lit up. Nan Nan rarely cooks, but when she does, the food she makes is just as good as her mother's. In particular, the little girl has some strange ideas. She can whip egg whites into foam and call it cream, and make soft desserts with flour, spread cream on them, and call them cakes. They are indeed very delicious, but unfortunately, she almost ruined her hands while stirring the cream.
The two ran to the finance office to find Chen'er and her daughter to go home together. Sheng Lijuan and Ye Chen'er were making plans in the finance office. Now that the market has slowly opened up, a small portion of the old furniture has been modified, and the remaining inventory can at least last until next year.
The timber is also being used up slowly, all for the new products designed by Nan Nan. Southwest is very economical; they resolutely avoid cutting large pieces of timber if possible. Furniture factories really need someone knowledgeable to minimize losses.
In just a few months, half of the 300,000 yuan invested has been used up. Fortunately, the amount recovered each month is still considerable, which can at least gradually make up for the debt for timber.
Yan Xiaonan has stated that she will invest another million yuan next year. This million yuan was sponsored by Ye Chenming, and she will repay the money when she makes money in the future.
Ye Chen'er teased, "How do you return it? From the left hand to the right?"
Sheng Lijuan laughed when she heard this, but she was calculating in her heart. If Nan Nan invested one million, Chen'er would have to invest three hundred thousand. She could afford the three hundred thousand, but she would have to go back to Shanghai once, so she had to teach Chen'er accounting as soon as possible, otherwise she would really not feel at ease.
Upon hearing that Yan Xiaonan was cooking today, the two quickly tidied up their accounts, locked the office door, and went home together. However, they were destined not to eat Yan Xiaonan's cooking today, as they had guests visiting.
Yan Xiaonan looked at Maotou and was surprised by how much he had changed. Where had that silly, immature young man gone? How had he turned into a greasy man with a big bun?
"What about my third brother? Has he become just like you?" Yan Xiaonan didn't want a greasy man to come into her family.
"Your third brother is in Vancouver, Nan Nan, don't worry. He's not like me. He's taller and stronger than me, like a gorilla, the kind that could kill a tiger with one punch." Mao Tou quickly explained. Nan Nan looks like a fairy. This is important information. He'll tell Bei Nan when he gets back.
Yan Xiaonan was startled. Bei Nan was amazing. She went to Vancouver. How did they get there? How are they now? Why isn't Bei Nan coming back? Is she injured? Mao Tou understood the question in Yan Xiaonan's eyes and admired her. Bei Nan was right. There were two people in the family that couldn't be fooled: Grandma and Nan Nan.
“I’ve already told your aunt and uncle about the details. You can ask them when you have time. I came here to give you something. It’s from Bei Nan. Take a look.” Mao Tou took out a brown paper bag from his bag and handed it to Yan Xiaonan.
Seeing that Mao Tou was eager to change the subject, Yan Xiaonan reached out and took the gift. If the other person didn't want to talk about it, she shouldn't pry.
When Mao Tou saw that Yan Xiaonan had taken over, he quickly explained, "Bei Nan's original intention was to buy it, but they wouldn't let us buy it, so we could only lease it. However, the lease fee for the past thirty years has already been paid in full, so please don't pay any more money."
