Chapter 933 Travels (3)

"Boss Yan, Myanmar's jewelry law stipulates that private transactions of jadeite raw materials are prohibited. Only those traded through public auctions can be processed, transported, and sold domestically and internationally; otherwise, it will be considered illegal."

Therefore, jade mine owners hand over all the jade raw materials they mine each year to the Myanmar government for numbering, and then sell them uniformly at public auctions.

The auction lasted for ten days. We inspected the goods at the Maniyadena Jewelry Hall. The first four days were mainly for viewing the goods, and the bidding and auction were only held in the following six days.

Make sure no one sees the price on your bid. Also, if the price of a rough stone is one million, you should bid at least one million two hundred thousand, otherwise you won't win the bid.

Listening to Boss Zhu's mutterings, Yan Xiaonan nodded repeatedly, thinking, "A single conversation with you is worth more than ten years of study."

“I’ll go check the goods first. We usually stay until closing time. If Boss Yan also finishes around this time, then wait for me here. If you want to go back earlier, there’s a hotel car over there that you can call anytime,” Boss Zhu said, pointing to a car with the hotel logo on it.

Yan Xiaonan nodded repeatedly. They wouldn't watch for that long. As soon as Yu Shu said they didn't need to watch anymore, they would leave immediately.

Yan Xiaonan took Ye Wen and the two children to learn about the rules first. It turned out that under normal circumstances, the way to trade at the Myanmar public auction is through bidding, which is divided into open bidding and sealed bidding.

An open bid means the price is marked on the stone, and you bid on it; the highest bidder wins. A sealed bid is a blind auction; you simply put your name, the stone number you are bidding on, and your bid price into the corresponding bid box, and of course, the highest bidder wins.

For Yan Xiaonan and his group, who knew absolutely nothing about jade, the hidden bid was utterly absurd; who knew how much this stone was worth?

Therefore, open bidding is the best bidding method. They only need to bid 30% more than the bid price. Fortunately, this public auction adopts both open and sealed bidding methods, so they don't have to worry about it.

Slowly, people looked around the pile of rocks. Some people were holding flashlights, carefully searching for their targets, while others were using measuring tapes to measure how big the rocks were.

Many others sat on the ground, holding impromptu meetings to discuss how to proceed.

Yan Xiaonan knew that there were two types of rough stones: "windowed" and "covered". "Windowed" stones were stones with one or more openings cut into a good spot to lure you in. "Covered" stones were stones whose outer skin was not removed so that you could see the quality yourself.

In reality, whether it's a "windowed" or "covered" piece, it all comes down to eyesight, experience, and luck. It's said that one cut can make you poor or rich, so knowing how to select raw stones is the most important step.

Yan Xiaonan first showed Yu Shu the stones with the windows open. Yu Shu sat in front of the stones and frowned as she looked at them. Apart from the few open sides that had a little green, the inside was all white.

Moreover, the little bit of greenery visible through the window was not enough to soothe her eyes, which shows how thin the green jade must have been.

“Mom, it’s mostly white stuff inside,” Yu Shu pulled Yan Xiaonan down and whispered in her ear.

"Let's go then," Yan Xiaonan said, pulling Yu Shu up and heading straight for the blind man. "Maybe there'll be something interesting over there." They looked at the place not far away, but they had to go around several piles of stones.

After the group walked to a secluded spot, Yan Xiaonan made a point of using her senses to observe the surroundings and make sure no one was around before taking out a notebook from her backpack.

As she explained, she made several marks in her notebook: a black dot circled around a bid meant bidding at a high price, an empty dot circled around a bid meant bidding according to the price in the tender document, and a half-black and half-empty circled around a backup plan.

The notebook was handed to Tianru. For the first four days, Yushu looked at the raw stones, Tianru took notes, and Yushu acted as a caretaker, while Wenshu went around looking and listening to things to understand the local market.

Four hours later, Tianru had written several numbers in her notebook. Only one number had an empty circle next to it; the rest were backup options.

"It seems this batch of goods is no good," Yan Xiaonan muttered to himself, as his consciousness began to spread out, taking in all the piles of raw stones around him.

There were people everywhere, so Yan Xiaonan led Tianru and Yushu to a secluded spot, sat down by a pile of rocks, and took out bread, water, and of course, wet wipes from his backpack.

They were told to wipe their hands and faces clean, and then they started eating bread and drinking water. Yan Xiaonan also took out two thermos cups from her backpack, and when she opened them, she found that they were filled with milk.

Because children drink milk from the time they are weaned, milk is their favorite food and they cannot go a day without it.

Yu Shu happily drank the still-warm milk, her eyes darting around. Suddenly, her gaze fixed on something, a warm feeling soothing her dry eyes.

"Tianru, number 5876, black circle," Yushu said softly.

Tian Ru was stunned. Just as he was about to put down his thermos, Yan Xiaonan had already picked up his notebook, carefully wrote down 5876, and marked it with a black dot and circle.

Yu Shu's eyes had just been moistened, and now she could see everything clearly: "Mom, 5865 black circle, 5723 black circle, 5821 black circle, 5333 empty circle."

After Yan Xiaonan finished writing, she didn't even look up, but directly glanced at Ming Biao with her consciousness:

5876, weighing 300 GM, priced at US$50,000.

5865, weighing 800 GM, priced at 60,000 US dollars.

5723, weighs 19KG, priced at 100,000 US dollars.

5821, weighs 31KG, and is priced at 500,000 US dollars.

5333, weighs 80KG, priced at three million US dollars.

"Yu Shu, Tian Ru, we won't watch it today. We'll leave after you finish eating," Yan Xiaonan said.

“Grandpa Kewen hasn’t come back yet,” Tianru said.

"I'm back. Look around one o'clock." Yan Xiaonan took out water and bread from her backpack. Uncle Wen must be hungry too.

Sure enough, Ye Wen smiled when he saw the bread in Yan Xiaonan's hand: "Nannan knows me so well. But my hands are a little dirty, go wash them first."

"Uncle Wen, here, these are wet wipes. Wipe your face and hands." Yan Xiaonan took out wet wipes and handed them to Uncle Wen one by one until his face and hands were clean.

"Did you find anything?" Uncle Wen asked while eating.

"Yes, we'll go back to the hotel after you finish eating, take a good shower, take a nap, and come back tomorrow," Yan Xiaonan replied.

Uncle Wen nodded repeatedly, ate the two pieces of bread in a few bites, drank a few mouthfuls of mineral water, rubbed his stomach, and felt much better.

As they got into the car to return to the hotel, the assistant told Zhu Baodi, "Boss, Yan Xiaonan and the others have gone back."

Zhu Baodi smiled. It seemed that he had brought the two children here for training, rather than actually to buy raw stones.
