Chapter Ten: First Test of Supernatural Abilities

These words made Yan Erqiang feel ashamed, as if his family had just come to freeload a meal.

Yan Xiaonan ignored this scumbag and pointed to the door, saying, "Dad, go."

"We need to go out! It's so cold outside!" Yan Xiaoqiang looked at his mother and asked, "Can I take my daughter out?"

Grandma Yan picked up the large cotton-padded coat from the side of the kang (a heated brick bed) and wrapped Yan Xiaonan up tightly, leaving only his eyes showing. "Go on."

Watching her youngest son carry Yan Xiaonan out the door, Grandma Yan felt uneasy, so she locked her room, put on her patched-up cotton-padded coat, and followed them out.

Upon seeing this, Cuihua panicked and went back into her room to grab her tattered cotton-padded coat before chasing after her. Seeing this, Xuemei picked up a padlock, slammed it shut on Cuihua's door, and went back to the kitchen to cook.

Cai Min was furious; her chest heaved violently. Who was she trying to protect herself from?

Yan Erqiang rolled his eyes at Cai Min, and that glance instantly dispelled all of Cai Min's anger. Actually, he really wanted to go into the room and check on them after they left.

Following his daughter's directions, Yan Xiaoqiang walked to the foot of the mountain: "Nannan, it's all covered in snow here, there's nothing to see. Shall we go back?"

Yan Xiaonan pointed to a tree at the foot of the mountain: "Dad, succulent."

Yan Xiaoqiang laughed, "Nannan is so smart, she knows there's meat inside. When the weather gets warmer, Dad will take you to find some meat."

After saying that, she tried to turn around and go back. Yan Xiaonan panicked and twisted her body, saying, "Meatball, meatball."

Grandma Yan arrived and hugged Yan Xiaonan, saying, "My baby, where is Rou Rou?"

Yan Xiaonan pointed to a tree: "Succulent."

Grandma Yan carried the little girl toward the tree, and sure enough, a fat white rabbit had bumped into it and was knocked unconscious at the foot of the tree. The rabbit's color was similar to the color of the snow, so Yan Xiaoqiang couldn't tell it was there at all.

Yan Xiaoqiang was so shocked he couldn't close his mouth. How did Nan Nan know there were rabbits here? Cuihua arrived just in time, grabbed the rabbit, and hid it in her tattered cotton-padded coat.

"Mom, you're absolutely right. Our Nan Nan is a little fairy. Come on, let's go back quickly, don't let Nan Nan get cold."

Seeing Yan Xiaoqiang still in a daze, she kicked him and said, "Why aren't you carrying Nannan back? Don't let your mother get tired."

Oh, Yan Xiaoqiang was kicked awake. He quickly picked up Yan Xiaonan and whispered to Grandma Yan, "Mom, could it be that your dream was real?"

Grandma Yan nodded: "The wild boar came to our house to knock it unconscious, and the hen lays eggs every day. Today, when Nan Nan is about to come out, a wild rabbit knocked itself unconscious and is waiting for you to pick it up. Don't you think so?"

Yan Xiaoqiang nodded repeatedly. His daughter was definitely a fairy reincarnated. His mother was right. He suddenly felt relaxed. Maybe he should go and get another wild boar. The fat chef at the state-run restaurant was waiting for him.

Suddenly remembering something, she looked around furtively and whispered, "Mother, Cuihua, we must keep it a secret that our daughter is a fairy. We can't tell anyone, not even those two boys."

Grandma Yan and Cuihua both rolled their eyes at him, saying, "You're the one who needs to talk."

Yan Xiaoqiang hugged Yan Xiaonan tightly: "Nannan, do you think we should get another wild boar? We can sell it at the state-run restaurant in town and buy you candy."

Yan Xiaonan was speechless. They really thought she was a child. She looked at her grandmother and mother, who were both looking at her hopefully, and nodded.

Seeing Nan Nan nod, the three of them felt relieved. Grandma Yan was worried again. She couldn't keep catching wild boars one after another, especially since there was still a troublesome child at home.

Grandma had thought of it, and so had the couple. Seeing the three of them looking dejected, Yan Xiaonan spoke up: "Grandma, come here!" Alas, he was still too young and couldn't speak properly.

Grandma Yan's eyes lit up. "That's right! Let's bury the wild boar in the snow and let Master Pang come and get it himself. How come our Nan Nan is so clever?"

The three of them stared at Nan Nan as if she were a rare treasure. Nan Nan felt a pang of sadness; she was still too poor.

Yan Xiaonan closed her eyes, her consciousness drifting into the mountains. Pheasants, rabbits, what's this? A roe deer, I guess. Let's go to the foot of the mountain.

The roe deer, which was looking for food, suddenly raised its head and rushed straight down the mountain. When it was about a hundred meters away from the foot of the mountain, its legs gave way and it tumbled down, hitting its head on a large rock and dying behind it.

Yan Xiaoqiang and the other two witnessed this horrific scene and couldn't help but shudder. Goodness, the fairy is truly amazing.

Yan Xiaoqiang put Nannan down with his mother and ran up to check on the situation. Grandma Yan quickly said to Cuihua, "You're fast, go back and get the shovel."

"Oh, Mother, you wait here, I'll be right back."

Cuihua took off running home. The shovel was right there in the yard. She grabbed the shovel and ran out. She was so fast that no one except Xuemei noticed.

Panting, Yan Xiaoqiang ran back to the foot of the mountain, grabbed a shovel, and prepared to dig a hole. Cuihua stopped him, saying, "Go to town and find Master Pang. I'll dig it."

"They're all farmers, this is nothing," Yan Xiaoqiang nodded and ran towards the town.

Cuihua picked up the shovel, and a rabbit fell from her arms. Oh dear, she forgot to give the rabbit to Xuemei when she went back. She put the rabbit aside and picked up the shovel again.

He shoveled the shovel into the ground with all his might, but the ground was frozen so solid that the shovel didn't leave a single mark.

Cuihua spat twice into her palm, picked up the shovel and shoveled again, but the ground didn't change at all, and she was instead shaken until her hand hurt.

Grandma Yan looked at her and said, "You hold Nan Nan, I'll try." Cuihua nodded, put down the shovel, and took Yan Xiaonan in her arms.

The result was the same, of course. Grandma Yan was not as good as Cuihua. Yan Xiaonan was also anxious. It would be troublesome if someone saw her. She probed her consciousness into the ground. Was digging a hole so difficult?

The ground began to churn, and a large pit appeared, burying the roe deer completely, not even letting the snow slip through, as if nothing had ever happened.

Yan Xiaonan was startled. This was so convenient! She remembered the piece of land halfway up the mountain and pointed to it, saying, "Grandma, go there."

Grandma Yan and Cuihua exchanged a glance, somewhat bewildered, and the roe deer was buried just like that.

Suddenly remembering something, I quickly looked around again. Thankfully, no one was there, and I finally felt relieved.

The snow began to fall again, and Cuihua hugged Yan Xiaonan tightly: "Mom, it's snowing. Let's go back first, so Nannan doesn't get cold."

Grandma Yan nodded, picked up the rabbit and put it in her bosom. She wrapped it in her tattered cotton-padded coat and couldn't see anything. She saw Nan Nan pointing to the mountainside again, looking thoughtful.

"My dear, it's snowing. Let's go after the New Year, okay?" Grandma Yan coaxed Yan Xiaonan.

Yan Xiaonan nodded. Listening to Grandma was the right thing to do. Let's go after the New Year.
